Kings of the Season vs. Kings of the Moment: Division A Finals Showdown

by Keyon Cyrus Friday, August 22, 2025 - 22:05:32

Hey everyone, we have finally reached championship weekend! It’s been a blast writing about Division A and spending more time watching the talented athletes in this division. We started the season with 7 teams and now we are down to our final two. Braves and The Infantry will face off with the Division A championship on the line this Sunday August 24 in Brossard at 3:45pm. Both teams left their marks in different ways to advance to the finals but before we preview that matchup, let’s see how they each got here:

The Infantry – Idaho Udapimps
Game Info:
Monday August 18, 8:00pm, Stade de Montreal (field 1)
Prediction: Idaho Udapimps 36 – The Infantry 39
Results: The Infantry 59 – Idaho Udapimps 46

If you wanted pure offence in a playoff game, look no further than this matchup. These teams combined for 57pts in the first half and 105 for the full game. Unfortunately for Idaho Udapimps, their championship desires would end here. Idaho would put up 46 points on The Infantry under the strong arm of Brady Ohanession, however, two INTs in the first half allowed for the opposition to always keep the lead and have Idaho always chasing. Sanders Armand led all players with 3 TDs and Ohanession would spread the ball around with 4 other players also being on the receiving end of TDs. It wasn’t the end that Idaho Udapimps wanted but for moving up into Div A, they have built a foundation to compete with the best in future seasons. The Infantry was clinical on offence under Kevin Wyeth as he would throw 7 TDs and was never stopped on offence. Nicholas Di Maulo would proved that he shines under the spotlight as lead the game in yards and had 2 TDs. Jaylan Greaves, Quaysie Gordon-Maule and Matt Kirouac would all be on the receiving end of TD from Wyeth. On defence, even though this was an offensive battle, four INTs made by The Infantry deemed to be the difference, including two pick-6s; one from Marc-André Lapointe and the other from Gordon-Maule to ice the game.

Braves – PartyCrashers
Game Info:
Monday August 18, 8:30pm, Marie-Victorin (field 1)
Prediction: PartyCrashers 34 – Braves 36
Results: PartyCrashers 36 – Braves 38

A close contest once again favoured Braves after they left Marie-Victorin last Monday with a victory. A gamed PartyCrashers team had the lead both at the break and up to the final play of regulation but a James Drysdale TD on the final play would send Braves back to the finals. Jeanslee Alexis was clinical for PartyCrashers with 5 TD and two incompletions with over 200yds. The offence was evenly spread out with four different scorers as Emerson Peterkin would lead all players with 2 TDs and Francois Hogue would lead the team in yds and a TD of his own. For Braves, Jonathan Maheu played well as he finished with 4 TD passes and a rushing TD of his own. Jean-Daniel Chevalier would lead all WRs in yards with 119 and Drysdale would have 97yds of his own, including the game winning TD. Even though Drysdale might get all the love and deserving too, a first half sack tuned into a safety by Emile Chateauvert is truly what edged Braves for the victory. Without that sack, who knows if PartyCrashers would’ve scored on that drive and that 2pts for Braves would result in 6-8pts swing for PartyCrashers. Once again, Braves prove that when it matters most in the dying moments of any game, they will get the job done.

Finals Preview:

The battle between the two GOATS of FPF Quarterbacks

Regular season: 2600 yds, 58 TDs, 5 INTs, 5 SKs, 136.8 QBR (10 games played)
Semifinals: 292 yds, 4 TDs, 0 INTs, 0 SKs, 120.9 QBR, 1 rushing TD
Recent key championships: Winter 2025 Div 1, Spring 2024 Div A

Regular season: 1993 yds, 40 TDs, 6 INTs, 0 SKs, 127.9 QBR (7 games played)
Semifinals: 257 yds, 7 TDs, 0 INTs, 0 SKs, 141.8 QBR
Recent Key championships: Winter 2024 Div 1, Spring 2023 Div A

Spring 2025 will bring another championship battle between Jonathan Maheu and Kevin Wyeth. Whomever you may consider the current GOAT QB is totally up to you but with how both these talented men are at this stage of their respective lives, it’s hard to argue anyone other than these two QBs. Both have put up great regular season numbers and have led their teams in the semifinals to get here. Wyeth put up a dominant 7 TDs in his semifinals while Maheu would have 4 passing TDs with one rushing TD but would make the game winning throw to advance to this point. Both QBs don’t make much mistakes so whoever makes potentially one mistake; whether it’s an INT, key moment sack or not converting on a 4th down, can be the difference for the other one winning. Safe to say, we should get another instant classic between these two.

The Infantry’s Explosive Firepower Meets Braves’ Unbreakable Experience

The Infantry has a star-studded roster that can compete with the best and on Sunday, they will need to play their best. Jaylan Greaves led the team in TDs in limited action and I expect him to play a huge part in Wyeth’s pass attack. The Infantry had 6 different players who finished with over 5 TDs in the regular season. Whether it’s Greaves, captain Rory Semerjian, Matt Kirouac, Matt Bond, Charles Olivier Vachon or Nicholas Di Maulo, anyone on this offence can impact a game in a heartbeat. Speaking of the last person mentioned, Di Maulo is my offensive player who can be the difference maker. Might not have the resume as some of his teammates but Di Maulo’s route running and elite hands is a QB’s best friend. I expect him to play a big role like how he performed in the semifinals. On the defensive end, while I don’t expect 4 INTs like in the semis, I expect the playmakers to make an impact. Whether it’s regular season all-star Matt Bond, Greaves or Gordon-Maule, these three will have their hands full and can’t forget the all-star rusher in Ethan Adrian. One sack can change the momentum in this game and Adrian is the best at that for this season.

Braves come into this matchup after an undefeated regular season and a nail-bitter victory over PartyCrashers. I have talked about the impact Drysdale has on both sides of the field but this Braves team is more than that. Braves will need a full team effort in order to come out with another championship. Whether it’s Gabriel-Charles Champagne to catch over your best defender, Emile Chateauvert to dip his way to a touchdown or the shifty hips from Mike Pierrecin as snapper, this Braves team isn’t to be taken lightly. On defence, Braves have done a good job in allowing their offence to win with defensive stops when needed. For this game against The Infantry, I would look at their defence at being a point of emphasis to being the difference maker. Whether it’s Jean-Daniel Chevalier, Isiah Allard (especially if he’s rushing) or Phil Pharand, if they can’t stop the engine of The Infantry’s offensive drives, as much as Braves can score with anyone, it will be tough to win. Braves have an advantage that no other team has; their consistency together and ability to win close games. They have proven that all season and in its history but if this game goes down to the wire, it’s hard to bet against them.

With all that being said, this will be a game to remember. Braves will be the favourites to win but we can’t count out The Infantry and how they can open a game with a few plays on both sides of the ball. Both matchups earlier this season went to Braves’ favour as they won in Week 1 by three points and Week 10 by four points. If that was any indication that the finals will be a close one, then look no further to the action we will have Sunday. I don’t expect much turnovers as both quarterbacks will be in their comfort zone with the amount of championship games they have combined with. With that being said, as much as Braves have been undefeated and winning close matchups all season, I believe The Infantry will come out of the gates hungry and wanting to make a statement. If this game came close to the wire where Braves would have the ball with the chance to win, I would tell anyone that Braves would win. I think Wyeth and company will keep a lead and come up with the stop that they need to not allow a Braves final heartbreaking drive. Whether I’m right or wrong, this will be a great game that if you are part of either side, will have been given an entertaining Division A finals. Prediction: The Infantry 46 – Braves 42
