Women’s Division C Semifinals Preview

Women’s Division C Semifinals Preview

After 12 weeks of regular season action, The Women’s Division C playoffs kick off tonight with both semifinals at Complexe CN. The beauty of the Women C playoff format? All four teams made it, meaning past struggles can be erased with one strong performance.

The Stage Is Set at Complexe CN

Game 1: Cavaliers vs Humble (7:15 PM, Field 2)

The Matchup

The top-seeded Cavaliers (8-2) face a Humble squad (1-9) that has battled adversity all season. While the record suggests a mismatch, playoffs write their own stories.

Season History

The Cavaliers dominated their three meetings:

  • Week 5: Cavaliers 44, Humble 0
  • Week 9: Cavaliers 20, Humble 7
  • Week 11: Cavaliers 41, Humble 12

Key Storylines

Humble’s season has been marked by challenges, When they’ve taken the field, scoring has been their biggest obstacle – they’ve been shut out in six of their games. Their 58 total points came in just three games: both matchups against She-Sparks and their two scores against the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers’ defense has been the story of their season. They’ve pitched two shutouts against She-Sparks (20-0 twice) and limited opponents to just 101 points all year. Eloise Viau has been opportunistic with 6 interceptions in only 4 games (she is unfortunately not eligible for playoffs as 5gp is the minimum), while the defensive unit has consistently frustrated opposing quarterbacks.

Player Predictions

Aurelie Plourde (Cavaliers) will throw for 3 touchdowns tonight. She’s been efficient all season (53.3% completion rate, 22 TDs in 7 games) and facing a Humble defense that has struggled should give her plenty of opportunities.

Amy Hughes (Cavaliers) will catch 2 touchdowns, she’s been Plourde’s most reliable target in crucial situations.

Océane Racine (Humble) needs to avoid turnovers – she’s thrown 7 interceptions in 7 games. If she can protect the ball and complete over 50% of her passes, Humble might keep this closer than expected. Look for her to target Sydney Langlois early and often.

Jade Charette (Humble) will record at least 5 tackles as she tries to slow down the Cavaliers’ offense. She’s been Humble’s most consistent defender with 23 tackles in 6 games.

The Prediction

Cavaliers advance with a 32-6 victory. Humble will avoid the shutout – but the Cavaliers’ defense and efficient offense prove too much.

Game 2: Turf Titans vs She-Sparks (9:15 PM, Field 1)

The Matchup

The second-seeded Turf Titans (7-3) meet the She-Sparks (4-6) in what could be a competitive game. They’ve split their season series 4-1.

Season History

  • Week 3: Turf Titans 20, She-Sparks 6
  • Week 5: Turf Titans 38, She-Sparks 0
  • Week 9: She-Sparks 18, Turf Titans 15
  • Week 10: Turf Titans 33, She-Sparks 2

Key Storylines

The Turf Titans own the league’s most explosive offense, scoring 273 points behind Kim Laau-Laurin’s spectacular season (1,632 yards, 33 TDs). However, they’ve shown vulnerability – the She-Sparks handed them a close loss in July, proving they can compete with anyone.

She-Sparks have been wildly inconsistent. They’ve been shut out three times, yet also showed they can put up points in spurts. Gabriela Brega has battled through a tough season (39.4% completion rate) but has weapons when she’s on target.

The defensive battle within the battle: Samora Fanta Sacko (Turf Titans) leads the division with 31 tackles and 8 interceptions, while Ashley Davance (She-Sparks) has been everywhere with 30 tackles.

Player Predictions

Kim Laau-Laurin (Turf Titans) will throw for 4 touchdowns and over 200 yards. She’s been the division’s best quarterback by far, and in a playoff atmosphere, stars shine brightest. Her 58.8% completion rate and ability to find the endzone (33 TDs in 8 games) make her the player to watch.

Samora Fanta Sacko (Turf Titans) will record 2 interceptions. Her 8 interceptions during the regular season show her playmaking ability.

Gabriela Brega (She-Sparks) needs her best game of the season. If she can complete 45% of her passes and throw for 2 touchdowns while limiting turnovers, She-Sparks have a chance. She’s been sacked 11 times this season – avoiding pressure will be crucial.

Ashley Davance (She-Sparks) will lead all players with 7 tackles tonight. Her motor never stops, and she’ll need to be everywhere to slow down the Titans’ offense.

Celia Lamarre (She-Sparks) could be the X-factor with 1 touchdown catch and 1 interception on defense. Her two-way ability (17 tackles, 4 INTs on defense) gives She-Sparks versatility.

The Prediction

Turf Titans pull away late for a 26-12 victory. She-Sparks will keep it close, but Kim Laau-Laurin’s arm and Samora Fanta Sacko’s defense-disrupting presence prove decisive. Look for a momentum-swinging pick-six from Fanta Sacko in the second half.

The X-Factors

Playoff Nerves: For many players, this is their first FPF playoff experience. Who handles the pressure?

Defensive Adjustments: Teams have had a lot of time to prepare since their last regular season games. Expect new wrinkles.

Where to Watch

Both games are at Complexe CN:

  • 7:15 PM – Cavaliers vs Humble (Field 2)
  • 9:15 PM – Turf Titans vs She-Sparks (Field 1)

The beauty of Division C? It’s where flag football dreams begin. Tonight, two teams see their seasons end while two others move one step closer to a championship. In a division designed for newcomers to organized flag football, these playoffs represent the culmination of a journey that started with many of these players stepping onto the field for the first time just months ago.

Who writes their storybook ending? We’ll find out tonight.

Looking Ahead

While the playoffs will mark the end of the spring season, both the Turf Titans and She-Sparks have already committed to returning for the Fall 2025 season starting next month. This continuity gives both teams extra motivation tonight – not just for a championship, but to build momentum heading into September. For the Turf Titans, another season means more time for Kim Laau-Laurin to develop chemistry with her receiving corps and for Samora Fanta Sacko to anchor what could become one of the most feared defenses. The She-Sparks see the fall as their opportunity to build on this season’s lessons, with Gabriela Brega gaining valuable experience at quarterback and Ashley Davance leading a defense that has shown flashes all season. Tonight’s game isn’t just about summer bragging rights – it’s also about which team enters the fall season with confidence and which one spends September seeking redemption.
