Women’s A – Week 2 Recap

Women’s A – Week 2 Recap

Two weeks into the Spring 2025 season, Women’s A is already showcasing the kind of elite play and top-end talent that makes it one of the flagship divisions in FlagPlus Football. From returning champions asserting dominance to new-look teams proving their worth, Week 2 gave us statement performances, and early signs of which squads are true contenders.

IceCold (2–1)

Despite a 28–13 loss to Subzero in Week 2, IceCold has impressed across three games. QB Athena Ryan has thrown for a league-leading 662 yards and 13 touchdowns through three contests. Against the reigning champs, she posted 148 yards and 2 TDs while connecting with Ashley Longin and Anouk Benalil.

Longin has emerged as the division’s top receiver so far with 264 yards and 6 touchdowns, and Chloe Simard has been a reliable target with 17 catches on 24 targets.

Athena Ryan has all the tools to compete with the best. She can make every throw and is getting more confident with each game. This team has a ton of potential, and if they put it all together, they can absolutely make some noise in this division.

Cayenne (1–0)

Cayenne opened their season in style, defeating BLEU POUD 25–6 in a dominant performance. QB Sandrine Gobeil-Huot went 25-for-26 for 211 yards, 4 touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Emma Racine stole the show, catching 9 passes for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns — looking exactly like the unstoppable force we saw last season.

If defenses don’t find a way to slow down Emma Racine, Cayenne will be a nightmare matchup all season long. Her chemistry with Gobeil-Huot make her one of the toughest covers in FPF.

Subzero (1–0)

In their first game since winning last season’s championship, Subzero looked as sharp as ever. Sara Parker returned and delivered an elite performance: 29 completions on 35 attempts for 286 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no picks.

The offensive arsenal looks even deeper with the addition of Mathilde Sybille, who posted a 10-catch, 111-yard debut. Caroline Moquin-Joubert added 77 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively, the addition of high-IQ veteran Rachelle Vallieres further solidifies an already stacked roster.

Subzero hasn’t missed a beat — disciplined, efficient, and dangerous. The rich get richer, and this team is as scary as it has ever been.

Matrix (1–1)

Matrix opened the week with a commanding 34–0 shutout of Les Crocs before narrowly falling to Monarchs 25–22 in a tightly contested game. QB Élisabeth Ashkar has been sharp through two games, completing 29 of 44 passes for 341 yards, 6 TDs, and no interceptions — good for a 128.9 QB rating.

On the other side of the ball, Matrix’s defense has been elite, allowing just 25 points across two games — best in the division so far. Anne-Frédérique Tardif and Justine Coté each have an interception, and a touchdown on offense. This team is versatile.

If this defense keeps performing at this level, Matrix is going to give a lot of headaches to opposing quarterbacks throughout the season.

Monarchs (1–1)

After a Week 1 stumble, Monarchs bounced back with a 25–22 win over Matrix. QB Andréanne Cadorette was excellent, throwing for 216 yards and 4 touchdowns on 17-of-32 passing. She connected with four different receivers, including a pair of scores to Sara Maude Harvey and another to Émy Bouchard.

Cadorette may not have the same FPF experience as other QBs in the division, but she absolutely belongs in the top-tier conversation. She did throw 3 interceptions in Week 1, but I truly believe that’s the only time we’ll see that happen this season. Keep your eye on Monarchs.

Les Crocs (0–1)

Les Crocs opened the season with a rough 34–0 loss to Matrix, managing just 100 yards of total offense and no scores. QBs Catherine Schinck and Vanessa Pierre combined for 12 completions and 100 yards, and the defense couldn’t keep up with Matrix at all.

Unfortunately, I’m not very optimistic. The loss of Marie-Joëlle Vandal — one of the best players in the league — has left a major gap. With Subzero next on the schedule, an 0–2 start while scoring very little seems highly likely. I hope I’m wrong, but Les Crocs may be in for a tough season.

BLEU POUD (0–2)

BLEU POUD dropped to 0–2 after a 25–6 loss to Cayenne in which they couldn’t recover from a 19-point first half deficit. QB Emmanuelle Bronsard threw for 151 yards and 1 TD, bringing her season total to 394 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Julia Paradis Roberge and Béatrice Tremblay have been good, but the offense has lacked finishing power.

On the bright side, Audrey Lajoie recorded 3 interceptions in the game and now leads the division with INTs through two weeks.

I’m underwhelmed with this team’s start. Bronsard is far too talented to only have 5 TDs in two games. But if the defense can continue forcing turnovers like this, I expect BLEU POUD to turn it around. With Les Crocs up next, I assume they’ll get back on track with a dominant win.
