Will Bombs be dropped and leave players without home and/or team.

Peeze’s Playbook

Finals Preview

Summer vacations are part of the reality of spring season. While, it is inconvenient for teams it also a time for reflection and a time to focus and achieve balance once more. I did miss a playoff game this year but I made some observations in my travels:

  • I never did catch that sea turtle. They move faster underwater than you can imagine underwater. Upon my return I saw a video that featured the genitalia of a sea turtle. As such I’m happy I was not able to keep up. Otherwise I would have hoped she was female.
  • Lush rain forests can exist on the same island as hardened barren deserts. This is not unlike an FPF season.
  • A bar featuring 180 taps of craft beers sounds like a memorable experience. Yet, as it turns out you may not remember much of the evening at all.
  • You can be very happy for you brother for getting engaged atop a volcano in a vineyard in Maui and still feel a sense of loss for not making the finals.
  • Spam is a national food of Hawaii but it is not as prevalent on menus as you would believe. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit Da Kitchen on the Big Island (the home of the most imaginative repurposing of mystery meat).
  • I could not tie that last point to flag football. Just, an odd missed opportunity.

This Is the finals ladies and gentleman. Take it from someone who has only been there once and still seeks his first championship, it is not as easy to get here as it now seems. We all remember the game, but we forget the road it took to get there. Enjoy it gentleman, you never know when you’ll be back.

Formerly Teamless Currently On Their Way?

Captain GM Kolethras has built, perhaps one of the most dominant and complete rosters in the division. This was put to the test as Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless faced the athletic 5 Star Prospects. For the most part, this was a hard-fought, closely contested battle between two of the division’s top teams. The young, inexperienced quarterback (Jordan Moses) seemed to have Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless on the ropes. Moses was able to break containment from rusher Khalil Kerr often enough and make plays. He found Jeremy Anderson often enough and Anderson would finish with 4 catches and 51 yards as well as one of the 2 passing touchdowns 5-Star Prospects would score on the day.

The game seemed to turn when, with Jordan Moses now being pressured by Quaysie Gordon Maule, moved to his right and floated a ball over the middle in an attempt to get the ball to Earl Anderson. Sam Hansen intercepted it and the momentum shifted. Just as it seemed that 5 Star Prospects would march down the field to trade scores and tie it up once more, FFFT now took the ball and began to work on building their lead. Jonathan Brown led his team with a renewed sense of confidence. As they had done many times this season, the Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless defense had given this team life. Brown spread the ball well and while touchdown leader, Quaysie Gordon Maule, did lead the way with two touchdowns, Khalil Kerr, Alex Lamarche and GM Kolethras all caught touchdowns in a winning effort. Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless are now currently on their way to the championship game with a 33-19 win.

The Peeze Bowl

Sometimes things get off to such a bad start it is impossible to recover. For example, one can go out on a date with an attractive young female. Upon arriving late, you discover that she works in a field that is in direct competition with your own career. During conversation, you find out that she is deeply religious and probably will not invite you over for, let’s call it ice cream, after a third date. Finally she turns out to be so incredibly dull you decide it would be less painful to choke down your scalding latté than spend one more moment engaged in conversation. This date went down south faster than a V formation of ducks escaping the frosted fingertips of winter (we all thought that that sentence would finish much differently when we started reading it).

This game seemed to begin that way for the Alpha T’s as a first drive snap slipped through the hands of quarterback Jean Lussier and it fell to the ground behind him for a safety. This gave Jagerbomb the ball and momentum with their first drive. This drive ended with a Simon Duchesne rushing touchdown and a two score Jaggerbomb lead to start the game. The Alpha T’s defense allowed 22 points in the first half and it would prove to be too much for them to recover from. While Lussier did have his moments (his pump fakes were plentiful and well sold), he always looked like he was playing catch-up. Snapper Françis Branchaud had 7 catches and receiver Jesse Dupuis caught 3 touchdowns as they did all in their power to help the T’s climb back into this game. Interestingly, Mathieu Houle seemed to have a huge size advantage over his defender on the right side and Lussier was unable to truly take advantage.

The Jagerbomb offense came out rolling. While Duchesne only passed for 88 yards, his legs were the story of the game. I remarked on the sidelines that I did not even know he was so quick. He bought time often but, more than that, he broke the rusher all day and ran free on his way to two touchdowns. Duchesne’s interception gave him the extra possession in this game that Jagerbomb would need to play keep away with the ball long enough to hold on for the win. The second half would be trying for Jagerbomb as their offense only scored one touchdown. Each week Jagerbomb seem to get amazing production from one of their amazing cast. This week it was Gabriel Moreau Paquette as he caught 9 passes, tallied up 64 yards and caught one of the two passing touchdowns on the day. Jagerbomb escaped this game with a win but will need to pull out all the stops this week as they will take on Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless in the finals.

Keys to Success:

Jagerbomb: The key is getting out to a good start. Simon Duchesne has to handle the rusher as he has done in the playoffs. Whether it is Quaysie Gordon Maule, Khalil Kerr or Jonathan Brown, Duchesne needs to control the pace of this game. In the games where Jagerbomb has had the most success they have gotten out to a hot start. They are also playing the most adaptable team in the division. As such, Jagerbomb needs to play to their strength in order to keep the carrot out f reach for Jon Brown and co. Believe it or not Jagerbomb probably has a deeper roster and embody the spirit that any one player on this team will be the MVP on any given week. So whether it is JF Daloze, Maxime Marsan or Gabriel Moreau Paquette, one would not be surprised to see any of these guys make a big play. Once the FFFT defense adjusts, Jagerbomb needs to make another receiver to make plays. If they can stay ahead of the battle of varied looks and modified game plans they can keep FFFT reeling and force Jon Brown to make a mistake on the other side of the ball. In the Press Conference Brown mentioned that he had not made many mistakes this season. If they can get him out of their comfort zone Jagerbomb can pull off the upset in this game. Defensively, Jagerbomb need to be physical and disrupt routes. They need to jump the quick plays that Jon Brown is known for and delay receivers on their long routes so they cannot run underneath a ball lofted up and into open space. On the defensive side Jeremie Lavoie-Patrie has to be equally disruptive and with help from coverage can disrupt the timing of his offense. A lot of this will be on corners Jonathan Clouthier and Jonathan Hotte who will be charged with heping disrupt the speed on the outside and allow the defensive halves to make plays.

FFFT: What FFFT needs to do is keep this game close in the first half. They have been the masters of pulling away in the second half. This has been the script all season long. This of course relies on Jonathan Brown being able to run his typical, meticulous offense. He is most effective when he controls the pace of the game and taking selective shots downfield. If he can get Khalil Kerr and GM Koletheras and snapper François Deslauriers to help sustain drives and gain yards after the catch. This way Quaysie Gordon Maule can get open deep on his patented double moves and this will help Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless stretch the lead in the second half. Defensively, FFFT needs to focus. Steve Hodhod is one of the best play callers in the division and it will be his charge to ensure not to focus too much on the Jagerbomb playmakers and not to forget roleplayers such as Jamil Benhamida and Salim Chorfi. In the end there are plenty of playmakers such as Sam Hansen, François Deslauriers and Alex Lamarche who can help FFFT take advantage at any point. The danger to avoid is that all these playmakers need to focus on playing their roles on defense rather than making plays. Defense requires trust and while this defense has done a great job with this all season the spotlight of the post season has been known to play on the psyche of even the strongest players. However, if they can keep their team focused on winning games as they have all season the advantage will be theirs. Finally, I truly believe if they alternate rushers between Quaysie Gordon Maule, Khalil Kerr and Jon Brown it will make Simon Duchesne have to adjust. If they offer these various looks it will make it harder to read their defense and it will make it difficult for Duchesne to break the rusher.

Analysis: This game will start with an early score from Jagerbomb and after a quick, atypical interception thrown by Jonathan Brown, Jagerbomb will have a two score lead. Duchesne will take what the FFFT defense gives them and we will see big plays by Moreau-Paquette, JF Daloze and Maxime Marsan. Steve Hodhod will start to lose his patience with teammates and referees (as he is known to do). Yet, he will rally his troops and after a late touchdown will force FFFT to go for 2…

Pick: A missed opportunity to complete a two-point conversion will give the ball back to Jagerbomb with 4 plays left. They will run the clock out and win the game by 2 points.

Saturday’s Solitary Sentiment

The finals will be played this Sunday, August 9th at Complex Bell in Brossard.  I invite everyone to join us, as this is truly one of the most festive events on the FPF calendar.  This season, I will be joined in the booth with color commentators Simon Dagenais and Justin Blanchard will be calling the game from the broadcast booth. I’m sure that the analysis will be as informative and entertaining as imaginable. Also, I can assure you that Simon Dagenais will be barely tolerable. Dagenais is like all the wost things cominbed: rice pudding, boxed wine, Sunday morning prostitutes and artificial blueberry flavor all rolled into one. But I digress…  The media team has all of their prop bets ready to go and as such they can focus on what promises to be an exciting final. To taunt me or wish me ill will for the final you can do so at[email protected] or tweet me @PeezeFPF.

Division D’s Calling the Audible has enjoyed it’s 7th successful season as the league’s equivalent to Sports Centre.  It has been a great season and for those who have not heard the press conference where Jonathan Brown and GM Koletheras from FFFT faced off with JF Daloze and Maxime Marsan of Jagerbomb check it out at http://podomatic.fpf.com or by subscribing on iTunes or visiting our YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/flagplus.
