What was, What is, and What will be… A look into Co-Ed

Hello all, and welcome to the long awaited Co-ed article! My name is Zackary Alberts-Gill and I’ll be your guide for all things Co-ed this season. This is my first attempt at writing an article for FPF, so let me know what you think at the end. I’ve been in the league since 2016 and have had the pleasure of playing in most divisions. I’m currently playing on Kiss My End Zone in Co-ed 2 and Michael Scott’s Tots in Co-ed 3, which will allow me to see most of the teams in action! Currently, all of Co-ed is in 1 article, but time permitting, I’m hoping to give each Co-ed the attention it deserves in individual articles moving forward!

With ⅓ of the season already behind us, let’s not waste any time in looking at all 3 Co-ed divisions: Returning teams vs. new teams, how they are doing, and how I think they will end their season. I will be giving performance previews and reviews, as well as a breakdown of multiple teams per division, per week, so that each team can have their chance in the spotlight.

CO-ED 1

TEAM REVIEWS

FAST NOT FURIOUS:

Fast not Furious came into the league in spring of 2022 with a rough start; finishing 2-7 in the regular season and losing in the QF round of the playoffs to Les Petits Phoques 30-25. Over the fall Co-ed Cup the team managed to pick up a new quarterback in Myles Gibbon and made small adjustments to be more competitive. With Myles at the helm and a well oiled offensive unit, FNF bullied their way to an impressive 7-0-1 record in the Co-ed Cup. Their first loss during double elimination playoffs came from last year’s rivals – Les Petits Phoques (36-34). Forging forward, they were fully eliminated by Y&Y led by Gino Di Fazio, in a close 18-13 loss. With returning players: Ryan Dobbs-Garnett, Marvin Steinberg, Quasie Gordon-Maule and picking up a new cast of women: Jessica Bositampen, Keiya Allen-Beckles, and Rachelle Vallieres, FNF have already found early success and are currently undefeated at 3-0!

Their offense has been able to spread the ball well (most receivers have at least 7-10 targets), while their defense has been a force to be reckoned with – 8 interceptions and 8 sacks is nothing to scoff at in only 3 games! Will this be FNF’s year to finally take the championship? Will Les Petits Phoques once again be the roadblock in FNF’s path? Co-ed 1 has a lot of competition – but I believe FNF to be among the top teams in this division. Brace for the occasional loss, but overall a strong winning record.

Prediction: 7-3

KISS MY OUTLAWS:

Kiss My Outlaws is another team that found its origins in Co-ed in Spring of 2022. They quickly found success in Co-ed 1, finishing the regular season at 7-3 with 2 losses coming from EZFun and the last coming from the above mentioned Fast Not Furious. With Stephen Harripersaud at QB last season, and a receiving core composed of Lory Ouellette, Joey Notaro, Isaiah Allard, Luis Begin, and the Dubois Duo, Kiss My Outlaws outscored their entire division. They then kicked it up a notch in the playoffs and were able to win the Co-ed Championship against Les Petits Phoques (42-33) in their season debut!

This season, most of Kiss My Outlaws’ offense has remained or been upgraded: Stephen Harripersaud remains at QB, most receivers are the same with the notable absence of Luis Begin. Although initially on the roster, Mr. Begin seems to have been replaced by the 2-Way, recent Hall of Fame, All-Star: AJ Gomes. KMO have been very successful at moving the ball on offense, racking up 769 yards in 4 games while completing 7 out of every 10 passes. KMO seems to have threats at every position: they have 5 receivers with 9 or more targets (2 of them having 100% catch rate) and 3 receivers at over 100 yards receiving. Will Kiss My Outlaws be able to repeat their championship performance this season? Will EZFun be able to once again be a thorn in KMO’s side? Will Fast not Furious’ new team be their opponent in the finals? Kiss My Outlaws might be confident defending their title, but they may be surprised at the level of quality this season brings.

Prediction: 7-3

GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW:

Power Rangers (2-1) Vs. Girl Scouts (2-0):

A battle between a veteran team and a rookie contender! Power Rangers are well known throughout the Co-ed division and have been around since 2018. They are coming off a close loss to Kiss My Outlaws in a very high scoring game and will be looking to bounce back into their winning streak in week 5. This game will be important for Power Rangers to show the Division that they haven’t lost a step and are still the championship team they were 2 seasons ago. However, first, they will have to compete with an up and coming team led by Emmanuelle Bronsard!

Girl Scouts have 2 games under their belt so far; and while their win against Justice League is impressive, they have yet to face a Divisional heavy hitter. Power Rangers will be a good test to see if they truly have the caliber to be among the undefeated, or if they will struggle as the season progresses. With 11 TD’s in 2 games, Emmanuelle Bronsard is clearly trying to make a statement, but will have to bring her A-game if she wants to separate herself from the rest of the pack. Power Rangers will be looking to assert their dominance, so the Scouts will have to find a way to keep Power Rangers offense off the field!

I don’t expect this match to be as high scoring as the other games these teams have played, but I do expect the more experienced team to come out on top.

Prediction: Power Rangers 28 – Girl Scouts 24

TEAM REVIEWS

BENCHWARMERS:

Contrary to the name, Benchwarmers is a team filled with athleticism and speed! They made their first appearance in the off season of the Fall Co-ed Cup and found immediate success, finishing 6-2, but falling out in the playoffs. Gabriel Wiseman, a well established QB in FPF, leads this cast of talented players into an already great start to the season at 4-0. Although the team has not been playing together for long, their chemistry is apparent: 4 different receivers with 13+ Targets, 10 combined INT’s, and in case that wasn’t enough – Wiseman has already earned 3 rushing TD’s all in 4 games! Losing Rocco Christiano and Tahnyus Steer between seasons would have been a big loss for most teams, but Benchwarmers did some expert scouting. As I look at this roster, all I can see is SPEED!

Nicholas Gomes-Risso, Aryane Boucher and Jocelyn Calixte are the returning offensive threats and should not be slept on. However, if teams focus too hard on these 3, they will miss the blurs of Lucas Quenneville, Kenny Boutilier and Constance Millaire blowing by. Already these 3 have shaken up the offensive unit of Benchwarmers with Kenny Boutilier now leading the offense with 6 TD’s! Wiseman must be having the time of his life being able to have so many different viable targets. Needless to say, with Nicholas and Constance holding down the defense, and the offense scoring roughly 30 points a game, it will take a heavy hitting team to knock the Benchwarmers off their Bench!

Prediction 9-1

FITSQUAD:

Fitsquad hit the FPF weights in Winter of 2022 and immediately made their name known. With one of the best points against stats when they entered the league, they were only eliminated by the #1 team in their division at the time – Kiss My Endzone, in the championship finals. They then bounced up to Co-ed 1 to try their hands against the cream of the crop of Co-ed teams. They have yet to recreate the magic they found in their first season, but have never failed to show up and be a competitive team whenever they play! Now, Fitsquad has returned to Co-ed 2 in hopes that they can take what they have learned and dominate the division once again… and it’s working. Fitsquad and Benchwarmers are now the only undefeated teams in Co-ed 2, and Fitsquad shows no signs of slowing down.

Boudjema Saada by all appearances has cemented his spot as the #1 receiver on this team, but don’t let appearances fool you; Laurence Pontbriand and Jarod Pita are also offensive juggernauts. Despite them both only having 3 TD’s each, they consistently show that they will score 1x a game and get a first down when needed. All important for William Brouard who is looking to be a contender for QB of the year. With a hard matchup against IG Team coming up, will Fitsquad be able to hold onto their undefeated streak long enough to give us the GAME OF THE YEAR next week against the aforementioned Benchwarmers? Or will they slowly be usurped by the hungry teams nipping at their heels: Kiss My Endzone, Fireball, IG Team. It will not be an easy season for Fitsquad and I expect some bumps in the road, but I’m hoping to see this team deep in the playoffs.

Prediction: 7-3

GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW:

I always love coming into the mid season of FPF and seeing how divisions can be shaken up and changed once teams have found their footing. This week the schedule gods have given us a special treat, THE BATTLES OF THE WINLESS! There are still 4 teams chasing their first win: Deep Ballz (0-3), Block Party (0-3), Team Rocket (0-4), Flamingos (0-4), and they all face each other this week! 2 teams will finally gain their first win, so let’s take a quick look at the matchups!

Deep Ballz Vs Flamingos:

Deep Ballz have started the season using 4 different QB’s to moderate success. Although they have yet to win, I believe Bruno Provencher or Francois Laramee at the helm tonight could be their best chance at success. They have kept turnovers low in each of their games and have been able to stay within 1 TD of winning. Their offense seems to be able to spread the ball, seeing as most of their receivers have at least 1 TD. Contrast this with Flamingos QB, William Ducas, who has 6 TD’s but also a whopping 14 INT’s! That, paired with the fact that the majority of receivers on the roster have under 10 Targets while Sacha Thibault has 30 targets, means that as long as defenses shut Sacha out, they shut down the entire offense. I think overall Deep Ballz may have the better defense, but their lack of completions will give Flamingos many opportunities to make plays and create turnovers.

Prediction: Deep Ballz 24 – Flamingos 19

Team Rocket Vs Block Party:

Thomas Charles-Paradis takes the place of Giovanni and leads the Rocket gang into battle. However, this seems to be the version of Giovanni before he gets his Mewtwo, because the Rockets have been struggling to steal a win for some time now. However, hope is not lost, despite a low completion rate, those missed passes don’t seem to be turning into INT’s, so receivers will need to help Thomas out and pick up those passes! With time, the Rockets should be able to improve on timing and coordination and get a few wins under their belt. For the time being, whatever the Rockets aren’t achieving in the air, Thomas is making up for rushing on the ground (112 Yards). Defensively, Block Party is still getting their wings wet and can only boast a good number of tackles. This may give the Rockets the opening they’ve been waiting for, however, with a few more TD’s under his belt and a higher completion rate Block Party should be able to outscore the Rockets!

Prediction: Team Rocket 13 – Block Party 21

I cannot wait to see what these 4 teams look like when I get to review them!

TEAM REVIEW

LA SECTE:

La Secte is a team that dates back to 2020 and struggled to find success in the Higher Co-ed divisions. In 2021 they changed QB from Alyson Francillon to Raphael Beauchamp-Desbois which has led to more success; not only because Raphael has found his footing in the Co-ed cup last year, but also that Alyson Francillon has become the go to #1 receiver of the team! She has become an asset and the leader of the receiving core. With the addition of Zachary Robledo as receiver, La Secte has finally found another offensive threat to add along Alyson and Justin Leblanc-Guidon. These 4 players make up the core of this team and lead both the offense and the defense, making up the most INT’s, Sacks and PD’s.

Dropping down into Co-ed 3 seems to have been a great decision for La Secte who are trying to find a way to find their niche and be competitive. Expect this team to be a formidable opponent throughout the year as they gain confidence after each win! With a week off before their next game, will they be able to shake the rust of their recent loss and rally the troops? How long will they be able to stay Division leaders

Prediction: 7-3

PASCARES:

For their first foray into Co-ed, Pascares have shown that they can run with the pack. Sitting at a comfortable 3-2, they sit just under La Secte as the #2 team in the division. Nicolas Menard has been a bit slow out of the gate at QB with 5 TD’s, 4 Sacks, and 4 INT’s, but luckily they have been able to keep most teams to less than 3 TD’s. If Mr. Menard wants to stay on top of the division, he will need to amp up the offense a bit and score more TD’s. Where Pascares excels is their takeaways! I haven’t combed through all the stats yet, but off the bat, Pascares seem to be going above and beyond on defense, with a combined: 14 INT’s, 15 PD’s, and 5 Defensive TD’s. Any offense should be worried about having to go up against that wall of stats, and most likely is the reason they have been able to stay competitive in most games!

Losing only to FNF 3 and La Secte, Pascares are learning from their mistakes and making big plays on the ball. They will need to be patient with Nicolas Menard as he gets comfortable at the QB position in FPF. With a hard game against Half N Half coming up, it will be a good test of this team’s potential. Remember to take what the defenses will give you, don’t reinvent the wheel and above all stay positive as a team. With this much talent, I can’t imagine Pascares not going far.

Prediction: 6-4
