We’ve Got a Semi; The Guy in The Chair and One Prediction

Peeze’s Playbook: Semi Finals

A Lack of Depth

Given the score, I am actually fairly surprised that V-Town got the win over Ball’s Deep.  If you would have told me blindly that the score was 34-25, I would have assumed that the game script favored Ball’s Deep. However, Jonathan Velasco was poised and calm. He answered Hiotis’ touchdown pass to “Mas” Moniz with his own short TD strike to Matthew Cabral on his first score of the day.  The duo of Cassandra and Cabral made the impact I expected and they move on to the next round.

Ball’s Deep had  a nice run in their first season and I’m excited to see what they turn into.  Michael Hiotis is one of the more impressive FPF rookie QBs that we’ve seen in a while.  However, with 5 plays left he put himself in a bit of a bad spot. With 5 plays remaining he used three of those plays only to lose 4 yards.  The ball needs to come out quickly. With 5 plays my thinking is. You have 2 plays to get to half field (about 10 yards per play) then another play to get to the red zone and give yourself two chances to score.  However, two incompletions and a 4 yard sack meant the 24 yards that would come on the final two plays would simply not be enough.  Either way, it’s a rough ending for this group but I look forward to see what the future holds for them.

Tis Some Visitor

Coming into the season, I was pretty convinced that the Ravens are the best team in division E. I’ve grown increasingly aware that even at that, I may have undersold just how good they are.  I mentioned that the Oreos need to use their athleticism to force turnovers and they did just that.  Ukiah Best intercepted a pass and Blair Velan intercepted a couple and while it did bring the Oreos close, they simply could not close the deal.

Likewise, I mentioned that I thought Ravens would need to use there size to capture a win against the young Oreos squad. Early, short passes to Kamba Katchelewa showed their commitment toward the body blows as Joel Houle had his boys up 26-14 at the half. The second half saw no score by the favorites and a few mistakes (ranging from interceptions to bad snaps). Oreos would end up with 5 plays to finish the game and much like the inexperience of Ball’s Deep, we saw a little mismanagement by the young upstarts as well.  The late interception by Blair Velan would end with no returns upon investment as Ravens would beat the Oreos by a score of 26-20.

Supply and Command

There was no way to predict that the defense that would be dominant in this game would be the Pincellos defense.  Their defense is solid but, schematically, I thought the Trailer Park Boys defense would be better equipped to handle the opposition.  However Vince Romano has continued to deliver above and beyond expectations. Despite an early pass defended, Vince Romano ended his first drive with a one yard touchdown pass to Matt Moreau.  This is a credit to Romano who likely fought the temptation to go with some of his more acclaimed pass catchers for the receiver who earned the space and the target!

A stark contrast was the Trailer Park Boys offense that seemed to be the law firm of Meunier and Meunier who protected the right to serve uncooked fish to the masses. Antoine Meunier was intercepted 4 times and seemed to only be able to get the ball to Frederic Meunier who turned his 7 targets into a 34 yard output.  He was safe, you can introduce him to your parents, but clearly, it wouldn’t be any fun. Bad boy Phil Ramsey was able to get loose for a score on the first drive but that would be the only passing touchdown on the day for the Trailer Park boys,  Pincellos move on and continue to be a burden to common sense and morality while the Trailer Park Boys may have broken my heart one last time.  I’m just here writing in my chair boys.  How could you do this to the guy in the chair?

Playoff Preview

With a lot remaining unknown for this coming week due to the Covid situation that unfolded last week.  Nonetheless here’s my singular prediction for tonight:
