Week 7: Messy Power Rankings

And 3 remains.

I’ll keep counting down the weeks until no one is left undefeated this season, but I have a feeling we might actually have 3 teams go the distance and finish 10-0. In an ideal world, we have no teams at 10-0 and no teams at 0-10, but I feel W19 is no perfect world for D4.

Week 7

The Stoics continue rolling through the division, GHB isn’t the same without Danny Aylward, Jagerbomb might have found a nice suitor, The You edged out Keyport Lock, Dream Breakers continue to make a push, Mad Bears impressed once again and All hooks are back in shape?

Thoughts of the Week

  • As much as I love the Mad Bears vs GloGang matchup and The Infantry vs The Sheriff, I just had to pick that Lonzo Ballers vs LBB game.
  • Either I’ve overestimated 69ers this season or underestimated Sphinx, but I clearly have one of them wrongfullly ranked.
  • Ballers put up a decent fight vs Ghosts last week
  • SWAT continues to put up monster numbers every week
  • Good to see Les Verges Folles bounce back like that for the second straight week now
  • The Infantry won another BIG game by a big margin. Championship or bust?
  • Small Giants’ losing streak is OVER.
  • All Hooks back at full strength? Watch out D4B.
  • Half-A-Stars’ offence might just be better than their D after all.
  • Les Hommes de l’Ouest’ offence finally unlocked. And there’s 4 games left to play!
  • Bad penalty or not, Baby Kangaroos only put up 20 points against a good defence; that’s just not enough
  • Ryan Kharouf looked GOOD with Jagerbomb this week
  • With BD bandits beating Don’t Mess With Texas, the seeding in Conference B is a mess now.
  • Really Justin, one catch for 39 yards? Couldn’t make that last step?
  • Gabriel Wiseman with 4 sacks? Damnnn.
  • Stop with the parity already, these Power Rankings are getting real tricky.

Recaps

  • SMYTDs vs Soft Serve: This was a bit of a weird one. Both offences struggled on the night as the game started with SMYTDs missing Justin Blanchard and Peeze Della Reeze (who showed up a few minutes into the game) and caused some offensive issues for SMYTDs. Mike Addona continues to have a roller-coaster season and I’m not too sure what’s going on with Joe Kano. Having Julien Bellavance for SMYTDs allowed for Mike Addona to revert to his old self and go back to something he felt comfortable using, but Joe Kano forced way too many throws at Sasha and Nikola Papich when others were open for lesser gains and Justin Blanchard read that the whole way through as he finished with 2 pick-sixs in a game decided by 6 points.

  • BD Bandits vs Don’t Mess With Texas: Surprised by the low scoring affair, but a good game for both teams nonetheless. Both QBs were disrupted by the opposing rusher / defensive scheme, but found ways to march the field “with ease”. When it was all said and done, Mark Belvedere managed to do a little more in the redzone than Fred Mallette to elevate his team to a Win. Marco Bertoldi was almost uncoverable (and somehow under utilized) as he stepped in for the undermanned BD Bandits. DMWT made some plays, don’t get me wrong, including a nice picksix from Pierre-Olivier Grenier, but as a whole, they failed to complete the kill shots in the second half to really put the game away, allowed BD Bandits to hang on for FAR too long and gave them that extra opportunity to take the game away.

  • Sphinx vs 69ers: Low scoring game late on Wednesday night saw 69ers put the game away with a few plays left as Shea Harbour scored on 4th down in the Redzone to render the following Sphinx’ possession irrelevant. Etienne Cloutier started off well distributing the ball to all of his receivers and the Sphinx offence looked good before 69ers’ had a half-time adjustment and took pretty much everything away. Sphinx struggled to adjust and use different plays in the 2nd half and saw their QB force a handful of bad throws (one of which was thrown at the defender) to give 69ers too big of a chance to put the game away in the second; which they did. Sure, Sphinx weren’t perfect, but this game was much closer than I had originally anticipated and they were one play from getting that 5-plays score to tie final drive.

Players of the Week

  • Jordan Prizant (Half-A-Stars): 249 passing yards, 7 TD and almost a perfect QBR (155.7)
  • Antoine Côté (Les Hommes de l’Ouest): He might have thrown 2 picks, but he got one by himself (for six) and threw 6 touchdowns to win the game. Got the W, all that matters.
  • Justin Blanchard (SMYTDs): 2 pick-sixs in a game decided by a single score? Nuff said.
  • Gino Di Fazio (SWAT): Another strong performance with 194 offensive yards and 7 TDs. Making waves for that QBOY
  • Sifax Kaced (Glogang): 129 receiving yards and 3 TD. Monster performance.
  • Charles-Olivier Lavigne (All Hooks): 238 combined yards, 5 passing, 2 rushing and 2 PD on defence. He’s baaaack !

Power Rankings

Division 4A

  1. Game Changers (6-0): The most dominant D4 team I’ve seen in quite some time now.
  2. The Stoics (5-1): It’s getting harder and harder to doubt these guys.
  3. Half-A-Stars (5-2): If their offence continues to play at this level, there’s no stopping ‘em.
  4. Greendale Human Beings (4-2): A loss in their QB’s absence just isn’t the same
  5. BD Bandits (4-3): 2nd in Conference B and making waves in a tough division!
  6. 69ers (4-2): They’ve had their bad streak, but they feel officially back!
  7. Past Our Prime (4-3): I don’t think any QB has ever had this much of an impact on a team before
  8. The Tide (3-2): A tough loss, but hey, only their second loss of the season
  9. Jagerbomb (4-3): With Ryan Kharouf now full-time, Jagerbomb are looking better and better!
  10. SMYTDs (4-3): I’m not sold yet, but their trending in the right direction after such a bad start.

Division 4B

  1. The Infantry (6-0): They’ve beat the two best teams on their schedule by 2+ scores. Definitely the best team in the division.
  2. Ghosts (6-0): Francois Martin who?
  3. Lonzo Ballers (5-2): A tad overlooked due to Lonnie Johnson missing a few games, but Lonzo Ballers are as good as predicted earlier in the season
  4. The Sheriff (5-2): They might not be there just yet, but they’re getting better each week.
  5. A-Squad (5-1): Huge win over MTL Originals sees A-Squad climb a handful of spots
  6. Les Blues Branleurs (4-2): An impressive win to bounce back after last week’s loss will see you trend upwards.
  7. SWAT (4-2): Dropping 51 points isn’t an easy feat in FPF.
  8. MTL Originals (4-2): Back to back weak offensive performance seems them trending downwards. Can they stop the spiraling?
  9. Mad Bears (4-2): Officially onboard of the Mad Bears bandwagon!
  10. Dream Breakers (3-3): Potentially the best offence no one is talking about right now.
