Week 6’s recaps, awards, rants and a look at who’s on the rise

Your typical FPF Division C Week.

It’s tough to imagine Division C going any other way than upsets, great finishes and some shocking outcomes. In fact, every week, we’ve had our sets of drama, controversy and exploits and I LOVE IT.

Most of you know I get to scorekeep and watch most of your games (if you play at Stade on Sundays, I’m sorry, I’m never there, I’m but a man). I must say, it’s been a great season so far. I’ve seen plays that make me envious, I’ve seen guys turn into superstars just as I’ve seen guys go from hopefuls to brokenhearted in a matter of seconds.

FPF offers SO much, SO SO much, it’s worth sticking around for. Plus, it’s fun to watch some football every once in a while, right?

Let’s get started.

Week 6

For yet another week, we witnessed quite a few upsets and VERY close games (69ers vs Former Tomahawk, for instance). Aside from the forfeit, I’m yet again pleased with how Division C is turning out. Keep at it, you guys are making me proud to cover this division.

Thoughts of the Week

  • I don’t care who you are, anytime a forfeit occurs, it sucks for everyone. Not just the players involved, but the league too. All I can do is apologize to Broccasion; it really sucks.
  • WHAT A WEEK. Upsets after upsets. I’m pleased.
  • Expect playoff standings to be up and running by next week’s article.
  • It’s crazy how one guy can have such a huge impact on a team.
  • Evolution are on the brink; I take it back, they won’t stay winless.
  • NFZ is stupid good.
  • The switch at QB for Killa Beez has paid dividends RIGHT away. 36 isn’t nothing.
  • Same goes for TOPSZN (it’s not 36, it’s 32, but hey)
  • Keyport Lock left me baffling this week and it wasn’t in a good one. C’mon guys. À la Vince Nardone; get your shit together.
  • Honey Badgers vs BearSkins was a much better GOTW than I had expected. Seeing how I voted for SMYTDs vs NFZ; I’m happy I lost.
  • Can La Sauce complete the comeback? Is it even a comeback anymore at this point?
  • I’m an honest man, I had my doubts about Dean Demetriou at QB pre-season and at the beginning, but hey, I take it back; guy can ball.
  • Zach Stachowski finally got back on that horse and puts up 43; it was do or die to be honest. Good thing they live on.
  • Fantasy Football with Brent Callender was a serious pain. This guy doesn’t get it. AT ALL. There’s NO DEFENDERS Brent.
  • Expect more content and a longer article next week as work won’t be as retarded and I’ll have more time to think of random stuff to put into this article. I’ve also been working on a new segment for the past few days that will be ready for next week’s article. Stay tuned.
  • So, last week, I’ve decided to play around with some visuals to improve what the article looks like. This is my final format (granted that our website is a bit restrictive towards visual modifications), let me know what you guys think!

Players of the Week

  • Sammy Feder (Coyotes): Efficient and deadly, Sammy Feder went up for 6 TDs, no interception and finished the night with a 139.8 QBR after completing 79.2% of his passes. Well done, Sir.
  • Adam Rockman (No Big Deal): a rushing TD, a receiving TD + serious yards and a pick-six on defense. Is there anything he cannot do?
  • Jonathan Grizzley (No Name): 89 receiving yards, 3 TDs and 2 picks on defense. He had A NIGHT. Impressive.
  • Francis Maheu (Former Tomahawk): In his QB’s return, Maheu went up BIG for 121 yards and 3 TDs on 11 catches. I guess their connection IS undeniable.
  • Cory Kennedy (La Sauce): After mocking him for not being a QB, he went out on Tuesday night and scored 5 TDs, threw 0 picks and decided that adding 2 interceptions on defense would get him noticed. Well, it worked.

Recaps

Honey Badgers took on BearSkins this week and Division C was blessed with yet another Game of the Week. Look it up on Facebook or on our Youtube channel (For all the lazy people, here’s the LINK) Since we were blessed with such action, I won’t recap the game for you; watch it yourselves. It’s pretty entertaining and you’ll get to make up your own impression after; It’s a win/win.

Coyotes crushed Stockton Slap in this week’s opener as Joey Taylor couldn’t keep up with Sammy Feder down the stretch. Let’s be fair and give props where they are due; Stockton Slap’s defense made some stops and played well. Brent Callender got a huge sack on Josh Feder (diving tackle) to end the last play of the first half and give his team a chance down by 7, but Joey Taylor came in, threw a pick-six to Kevin Smuda on the first possession in the 2nd half and then morale went downhill real fast. Sammy Feder lost 0 time to put this game to bed and make Stockton Slap look like they’ve been completely outmatched. Sure, they was some unnecessary crying left and right, but at the end of the day, Coyotes was the better team out there. Stockton Slap needs to get their act together. REAL fast.

Show me Your TDs showed up on Sunday night a weird roster to start the game as Alex David and George Elie-Voyer were late to their game (due to schedule conflicts) and Julien Bellance+Kevin Lubin were nowhere to be seen. Regardless, Mike Addona marched his offense down NFZ’ throat and we were all expecting a serious shoutout by the end of the 44 minutes the way this game began. Let me tell you, I was disappointed. NFZ adjusted to Anthony Addona and Vinny Gualano made him irrelevant in the second half as Kevin St-Pierre started eating up Mike Addona for 4 sacks and No Fly Zone made us all understand why they are named that way with 4 interceptions turning the 2nd half into a serious blowout. Outscoring their opponents 25-6 in the second half of the game is how you want to make a statement.

Down 19-6, Evolution looked like they were heading for their 6th straight loss and morale was low until a tipped pass which turned out to be dropped by Johnny Paradis-Wilson turned into a 13 yards TD for Joey Watson and Evolution went into halfime with 6 point deficit rather than a 13-point hill to climb. The second half was more of the same as Jovan Cober picked off Rick Cummins for six on a nice defensive play and Hinsley Adams’ arrival gave Evolution a small boost, but it was too small for them to overcome the deficit. Vincent Lauzon had another field day out there reaching almost 100 yards and 2 TDs and MVE had control of this game for most of the night. Evolution solace? They scored 24 and were in the game for the most part.

Jagerbomb took on Brunch Buddies late Sunday night after Lebron held the trophy way high and I lost 0 time getting accustomed to my new receiver Marc-André Lapointe who was a torn in Jagerbomb’s side for most of the night. My receivers did most of the job for me as all 4 scored TDs and Jean-Sebastien Collin ended the game with a redzone interception to seal the deal (down by 13, within the last 5 plays, the game was already over, but you know, pride). Jérémie Cloutier struggled in Mendy Cardichons absence and his receivers simply couldn’t get by the combo of Justin Blanchard/Juwan Edghill/Marc-Andre Lapointe on defense as backup rusher Jean-Mathieu Vidal had a night feasting. Jagerbomb will look to right the ship next week with, hopefully, their full roster intact as they face an upstart La Sauce.

Gotham Knights battled it out against a sub-filled Keyport Lock and came out on top regardless of James Floreani and Yoni Lehrer’s offensive efforts. Daniel Goloff replaced Jeff Rosenblatt under center in his absence and fared quite decently distributed the ball well and making his receivers look good, but failing to convert on the final play of the game (going for 2) ended up being the dagger. Using Alexandre Gaudet and his brother Alexandre Provencher-Rivest quite well, Chris Rivest was able to march down the field and punch it in when it really mattered to walk away with a much-needed victory over a winless Keyport Lock who looks like they’ve given up on their season. With troubles fielding a simple roster for a game, Keyport Lock looks nothing like the team we’ve grown to know this Winter. Hopefully, it’s just a fluke season.

Cory Kennedy had a field day against the Warhawks’ defense as La Sauce rolled on Tuesday night to their first real decisive win of the season 31-6. He threw for 5 TDs and no picks for the first time this season as Francois Hogue had a serious outing with over 100 yards and 3 TDs quickly turning into a serious target in La Sauce’s offense. Adding up 4 sacks from Kevin Marcil on defense and 3 interceptions, La Sauce seized the day with a 13-0 lead at half and never looked back crushing Warhawks’ hopes at redeeming their season. Sitting here, I can’t say what’s wrong with Warhawks; at times, they play really well and they execute on both sides of the ball, yet it doesn’t translate to the scoreboard whatsoever. I guess it’s just one of those seasons where things go from bad to worse REAL fast.

Power Rankings

  1. No Fly Zone (6-0-0): Undefeated and they like for us to know.
  2. Honey Badgers (6-0-0): A close game, but still a W. Honey Badgers remain undefeated and looking gooood.
  3. Coyotes (5-1-0): That’s THE way to bounce back.
  4. Top Sauce (5-1-0): Top Sauce getting their shit together. I like it.
  5. No Big Deal (4-1-1): Getting better and better each week is a scary thought.
  6. 69ers (4-1-1): Winning out close games require a different kind of talent. Well done.
  7. No Name (5-1-1): Big win this week from the boys in yellow!
  8. Stockton Slap (4-2-0): Just when I thought they had a fluke week, they pull, yet another. It’s not a fluke if it trends on.
  9. Former Tomahawk (4-2-0): Goulet is back and the team’s looking good regardless of last week’s results.
  10. La Sauce (4-2-0): The boys in purple aren’t just getting the job done nomore. They rollin’.

Terry Tam crushes Justin Blanchard (not only is it the biggest win of the season, but also Terry scored the most points so far). I’d say bragging rights goes to Terry, but he already knows it.

Last week’s MVP: Sammy Feder – Coyotes

This week’s challenger is Brent Callender. Some of you may remember him for being part of the media this Winter or for playing for Stockton Slap this season. A rivalry within one’s team is bound to be good.

Let’s remind everyone of the simple rules we follow weekly:

  • Cannot draft someone from your own team
  • Cannot draft the same player twice (Gives an edge to Challenger)
  • Winner stays. Loser’s out.
  • Challenger picks first.

Here’s the scoring format we’ll be using this season:

Quarterbacks

  • 1 point per 15 yards passing
  • 3 points per passing TD
  • 1 point per 5 yards rushing
  • 5 points per rushing TD
  • – 2 points per interception
  • – 1 point per sack

Receivers

  • 1 point per 5 yards
  • 5 points per TD

Rusher

  • 7.5 points per sack

Defense

  • 1 point per 3 tackles
  • 1 point per 2 PD’s
  • 2 points per sack
  • 3 points per INT
  • 5 points per pick-six
  • 10 points for allowing 10 points or less
  • 8 points for allowing 11-20 points
  • 6 points for allowing 21-30 points
  • 4 points for allowing 31-40 points
  • 2 points for allowing 41-50 po ints
  • 1 point for allowing 51 + point

** Key note: If any given player wants to be part of the Fantasy Duel in the upcoming week, we need new challengers. Send me a message (FB, Twitter, email) and I’ll set you up. You don’t need to be media/well known. As long as you love FPF / Division C and will spend about 25-30 minutes of your time to draft your team, we’ve got a deal.

On the Rise

For those of you who know me, you all know I love adding random new segments weekly and talking about things/teams that aren’t necessarily focused on primarily. In this case, I want to give a quick look/shout out to teams that are, well, on the rise. Clever title, I know.

  • La Sauce (4-2-0): After starting off their season 0-2 (I feel like that’s becoming a thing for them, all around, to just drop the first few), they’ve clawed their way back to a 4-win winning streak (that win over me still hurts) and are now sitting pretty at 4-2. I know most teams won’t take these guys seriously, but you really should.
  • 69ers (4-1-1): Their only loss game during that Game of the Week (it has to sting), but they’ve been pretty steady and strong. It’s tough to qualify 69ers as on the rise because, well, they were never down (their worst record was 2-1-1), but they’ve been under the radar recently and I wanted to shine light upon the fact that Dean Demetriou’s offense is GOOD and once their defense gets it together (because they will, at some point), 69ers will be a dangerous team. Beware.
  • Gotham Knights (2-4-0): Gotham Knights dropped a few close ones (to be 2-4 with a -20 differential speaks volume), but have been a competitive team regardless of their record. With a touch from Lady Luck, these guys could be sitting pretty at 4-2 instead of looking down the barrel in a tough scenario. They’ve got a tough stretch ahead of them, hell, it’s brutal, but if they can muster 2 wins before week 10, I could see Chris Rivest and co. pulling it together to make the playoffs. Don’t give up just yet.
  • No Big Deal (4-1-1): After starting the season fairly poorly (1-1-1), they’ve pulled themselves together and Applebaum finally started looking like himself again. I like the new additions, I like the fact that these guys have cap room to toy with and that Jake Applebaum isn’t afraid of using his legs to score TDs (I see you, Jake). Defense hasn’t been lights out, but it has its’ moments. With their current streak, I can’t wait to see just how good these guys can be when the real season begins.
  • BearSkins (3-3-0): I really debated adding BearSkins to this list for many reasons. First, I expected BearSkins to be better than .500 at this point of the season and they did start off the season strong (2-0-0), so “On the rise” isn’t really a working title for them, but I still see BearSkins as underdogs after 6 weeks and climb the rest of the way to finish WAY above .500. So it’s much more of a “hey, look at these guys go from now on, ‘cause they will GO” kinda thing.
  • Brunch Buddies (2-4-0): I hate talking about my own team, so I’ll make it brief. Started 0-4, now fighting to make the climb. I’ll be honest, we’re playing hungry and I’d hate to face us right now. If we can muster 2 more wins and be .500 by week 9, we’ll make playoffs. It all comes down to this.
  • Former Tomahawk (4-2-0): I’ll say it, I ain’t scared. These guys came out of nowhere for me. I had 0 expectations from Former Tomahawk seeing how they’ve moved up division and I really wasn’t sold on them, but KUDOS. I’m really happy with how these guys turned out and seeing how their only loss was week 1 and this week’s 1 point deficit, FT is the real deal.
  • The Commission (4-2-0): TC is the kind of team I wasn’t sure whether they’ve ball out or fall out. Sean Avraam hasn’t played QB in a long time and I was expecting roster inconsistency from the franchise, but I guess I was wrong; guys show up, ball out, make Avraam look good and he has been. Their defense isn’t as strong as I’d like it to be for them to make a deep playoff push, but there’s so much talent and experience within that core of guys that it’s tough to imagine them giving up so easily. I expect big things from them in the weeks to come.

Picks of the week

10/12 is pretty impressive. Considering one of those “losses” came by 1 point, it’s even more impressive. I’m getting pretty good at this, actually.
