Week 4’s recaps, awards, rants and some exciting Week 5’s previews.

It’s been four weeks since the start of the season and I must say, I wasn’t expecting it to go down this way. With this many undefeated/winless teams remaining, I’m a bit surprised by how things played out.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for certain teams to shock the FPF world and make a push for the playoffs early, but winless kinda sucks.

I know I say it every week, but the season’s not over yet, regardless of your current seed. A 4-0 team can fall out of contention by week 10 if they don’t take FPF seriously and a winless team can still make a push for the playoffs; you’ve all paid for this, don’t give up just yet.

Also, I hate forfeits, so please, play.

Let’s get started.

Week 3

This week featured many upsets. I call them upsets because I didn’t see it coming, but I could see your point that I am not omnipresent. Look at my prediction ratio and come back to me.

I love upsets; it’s what makes FPF so great. Keep ‘em coming, I’ll be waiting.

Thoughts of the Week

  • That Game of the Week gave us a pretty good game to watch. Well done guys.
  • Akeem Hoyte-Charles can run but cannot throw. I’ll give you props for running for over 100 yards on your opponents’ defense, but your passing stats are mediocre. It’s a passing league, Akeem, c’mon.
  • Can anyone slow down Sammy Feder’s offense? They’ve been kept to less than 40 once and it was a blowout.
  • Jeremie Cloutier is reviving the Jagerbomb franchise after Duchesne’ injury. It’s both awesome and sad at the same time.
  • MVE is 2-0 with Lauzon. 0-2 without. Hmmm.
  • With 7 teams currently winless, I must say, I wasn’t expecting this AT ALL.
  • 5 teams remain undefeated. Can any of them make it all the way?
  • With Week 5 right around the corner, there’s very little time to turn things around; get your act together boys.
  • Hopefully, by the end of this week, we’ll have one less winless teams and one less undefeated team. I like parity.
  • I’m a bit sad I don’t have some random internet stuff to share with you guys this week, but I haven’t been around much.
  • I was off from scorekeeping last week due to my FPF schedule and I must say, I kinda missed watching you guys out there.
  • With the GrandPrix F1 weekend going on and the Francofolies and the Mondial de la Bière all happening at the same time this week, I expect some sloppy plays on Sunday and some hangover players strolling around.
  • I’m actually curious whether Dilan Daoust is getting targets this week or not.

Players of the Week

  • Jonathan Grizzley (No Name): 2 TDs and 2 INTs (one for six) resulted in the biggest performance of the game. Grizzley not only played well, but did more than enough to obtain the W.
  • Justin McLean (Top Sauce): 4 TDs, over 100 yards receiving and a pick on defense. McLean is making himself known.
  • Jake Applebaum (No Big Deal): It’s tough to ignore someone throwing 8 TDs in a single night. Regardless of his pick, it’s an impressive performance that his team really needed out of him to bounce back. Well done, Jake.
  • Jeremie Cloutier (Jagerbomb): His QB performance wasn’t all that impressive (4:1), but when you add the rushing yards, the 2 picks (one for six) on defense, Cloutier had a night. Oh, and they also won.

Recaps

  • La Sauce survives their clash with Evolution as both QBs throw 3 INTs. It was anybody’s game at any given point to be honest. Sure, La Sauce was leading at halftime, but a 7 point lead is nothing to be so cheerful about. Kennedy connected on only 9 of his attempts against Cummins’ 10 and something tells me this was one of those ugly game to watch. At the end of the day, La Sauce walks away with the W and improves to 2-2 as Evolution crumbles to 0-4 and dug themselves a hole that many will say too deep to crawl out of. Time will tell, but it’s starting to look bleak.
  • Show me Your TDs took on Eskimo Brothers on Sunday night and it was as good as advertised. Sure, both offenses weren’t clicking, but it was a good game to watch regardless. Addona was without the services of Bellavance and Lubin again, but still made plays and got his brother involved, A LOT. On the flip side, Steen and Oliver were quiet most of the night as Eskimo Brothers’ defense got stops, but didn’t really create many turnovers. Stachowski has been hitting a rough patch recently and his team went from a strong 2-0 contender to a “who are they 2-2”. Can they resurge? Defense has been good, but offense has been bad. Ironically, it’s the same story with SMYTDs; can offense finally find groove or will the ship sink?
  • No Fly Zone barely escapes BearSkins alive as Rich Humes looks more and more human with every passing week. Mind you, Humes is still winning games, so “human”, but that NFZ defense is something else. Papich managed to carve his way to 3 TDs on 3 catches against a murderous defensive squad, but he’s also someone to reckon. I’ve been given this defense a lot of love, but hey, they average 11 INTs in 4 games; it’s pretty ridiculous. They make plays, force tight throws and walk away victors. BearSkins showed us they call ball with the best, but they’ll need to do more than just ball if they want to be considered contenders this time around in Division C. Look for Etinson to bounce back next week in a statement game against Keyport Lock.
  • Stockton Slap against 69ers. It was a good game. Demetriou looked good under center but his receivers looked REALLY bad. Oh, and Taylor’s swag is ATROCIOUS. Watch it yourself HERE. It’s filmed brilliantly!

Power Rankings

  1. Coyotes (4-0-0). A serious beatdown solidifies their #1 seed.
  2. No Fly Zone (4-0-0). This defense though…!
  3. Honey Badgers (4-0-0): It’s tough to hate on how well these guys are playing.
  4. Stockton Slap (4-0-0): They’ve been looking good for the past month. Real good.
  5. No Name (4-0-0): The boys in yellow improve to 4-0 and remain undefeated. Defense stepped up as offense crumbled.
  6. Top Sauce (3-1-0): At 3-1, Top Sauce are turning into serious contenders behind McLean’s amazing offensive performances and a stud defense.
  7. The Commission (3-1-0): The Commission continues to improve as their ranking also goes up. Avraam is yet to throw a single INT this season!
  8. Former Tomahawk (3-1-0): It’s getting tough to ignore their recent success.
  9. No Big Deal (2-1-1): Applebaum decided it was time for a beatdown and he executed. Can he keep it up?
  10. MVE (2-2-0): Back to back upsets will get you guys on my radar. Well done, boys.

FlagPlus Fantasy Football

Justin Blanchard remains the champion as Mat Domon forfeits (I guess picking 8 players was too much to ask out of him). It’s a new low for fantasy players worldwide. There’s always this one guy in the league that plays guys on Bye Weeks, well, Mat did even worse; didn’t even have a guy in the playing slot out there.

Here’s the breakdown of last week’s results:

Justin won, because, you know, Domon.

Last week’s MVP: No Name Defense

This week’s challenger is Doug McKernan. He’s been in the league for quite some time, even won a Championship recently. He currently plays QB for Honey Badgers in our division is looking to upset Justin this week.

Let’s remind everyone of the simple rules we follow weekly:

  • Cannot draft someone from your own team
  • Cannot draft the same player twice (Gives an edge to Challenger)
  • Winner stays. Loser’s out.
  • Challenger picks first.

Here’s the scoring format we’ll be using this season:

Quarterbacks

  • 1 point per 15 yards passing
  • 3 points per passing TD
  • 1 point per 5 yards rushing
  • 5 points per rushing TD
  • – 2 points per interception
  • – 1 point per sack

Receivers

  • 1 point per 5 yards
  • 5 points per TD

Rusher

  • 7.5 points per sack

Defense

  • 1 point per 3 tackles
  • 1 point per 2 PD’s
  • 2 points per sack
  • 3 points per INT
  • 5 points per pick-six
  • 10 points for allowing 10 points or less
  • 8 points for allowing 11-20 points
  • 6 points for allowing 21-30 points
  • 4 points for allowing 31-40 points
  • 2 points for allowing 41-50 po ints
  • 1 point for allowing 51 + point

** Key note: If any given player wants to be part of the Fantasy Duel in the upcoming week, we need new challengers. Send me a message (FB, Twitter, email) and I’ll set you up. You don’t need to be media/well known. As long as you love FPF / Division C and will spend about 25-30 minutes of your time to draft your team, we’ve got a deal.

Previews

  • Broccasion vs Varennes: Vendrame has been playing really safe (and well) recently. Going up against a defense that makes every single bad throw regretful, Vendrame might actually be the QB you WANT to have throwing the football for you. Broccasion’ defense has been stealing the show lately as their offense has been struggling (aside from Cerantola rushing yards, there isn’t much to be amazed about). For Broccasion to get over their slump, they’ll need a big offensive night (40 points should suffice to get the ball rolling and the W) because I don’t foresee Varennes allowing more than 1 turnover all game. Lebofsky covering Laliberté should make for an amazing matchup to watch.
  • Gotham Knights vs Former Tomahawk: To very, somehow, underrated teams are going at it and the victor will most likely make the playoffs whereas might dig himself a hole tough to crawl out of. In fact, with a 4th win, FT might actually have their ticket to the playoffs most likely booked whereas GK might suffer a tough season to swallow with a 4th loss in 5 games. Two very similar style of football, two teams coming up from lower divisions; the kind of matchup that should make for amazing football. This game should be one of THE best and closest of the week. Luckily for me, I’ll be around to witness it.
  • Honey Badgers vs MVE: After two very impressive week (and Vincent Lauzon showing us all why he’s THAT good), MVE are finally playing up to their potential. Honey Badgers have been steamrolling through their competition and the clash should make for a pretty interesting game to witness. With a Daoust on both sides, we might see some sparkles by the game’s end. Unless HB finds a solution to counter Côté’s ability to move the chains with his legs, MVE’ offense might excel once more and provoke the upset. Can anyone cover Lauzon on Sunday? Can MVE reduce McKernan’s efficiency? Time will tell.
