Week 4: Superstars in Tier 3

Welcome back Tier 3! We had a big week with 13 total games being played, and many of the players popped off and had noteworthy performances. After 3 weeks, we still have 8 undefeated teams, with 2 of them having a tie. Lightwork and Joes Panini are the only 3-0 teams, and are currently 1 and 2 in the division. Only 4 teams are winless, with two of them being huge surprises for the wrong reasons. Bandits and Bleue Dry will need to pick things up quick if they want to finish in the top 10, and same goes for In n’ Out and West Island Knights, though these teams’ hopes for top 10 should be slim. Reminder that top 10 teams will automatically be in the top bracket and will have a double elimination game, which means that if they lose, they’ll fall to the bottom bracket, where if you lose, you’re out. Number 6 is probably the main goal for most teams, as that means you also get to skip the play-in amongst top 10 teams.

Game reviews

Lightwork 34-6 Bandits

Tyler Havlena keeps the hot streak, helping his team move to 3-0, despite me having many doubts about him. Emile Skaf struggles, again (!), and Bandits fall to 0-3.

Idaho Udapimps 30-29 The Penetrators

One of the most exciting games I’ve ever played in. Despite his unique style, which is characterized by his interesting lefty throwing motion, Justin Goodman was able to dice up Idaho’s defense by throwing TDs to 4 different receivers. The 5 convert points  (all to Jared Boidman) were almost enough to make up for the extra TD Idaho got. David Gutkovsky did just enough to get the team over the hump with clutch 3rd down conversions, and Ignacio Valdes-Manzanedo’s Touchdown with 2 plays left sealed the deal. Justin Goodman tried a hail mary but DPOY favorite Eric Christian Schiocchet batted it down to end the game.

Lightwork 32-30 Bleue Dry

Guillaume Dufresne had his biggest game of the season with 7 catches, 110 yards and 3TDs, but Bleue Dry still lost. Alexandre Delisle had 72 yards and 3TDs for Lightwork, but his most important play was a pick-6, and with Lightwork’s 2 XP1s, they were able to take the win and move to 3-0.

Griffnation 33-39 Bébés Dragons Magiques

Griffnation almost pulled off the upset but couldn’t convert 2nd, 3rd and 4th down plays with 2 yards to get a first after succeeding on an onside kick attempt. 4 different receivers had over 40 yards (Chateauvert, Joly, Moorjani-Houle, Audrey-Robillard), but it wasn’t enough to rival Nicolas Macduff’s absolutely ridiculous statlune of 103 yards and 5TDs, who was too much to handle for Griffnation’s defense, who has to get figured out soon.

In N’ Out 6-39 New Diablos

It was all New Diablos in this one, with Francois Martin throwing 232 yards with 6TDs and 0 interceptions. On the other side of the field, Nicolas Katerelos couldn’t get anything going and had to settle for a measly 137 yards, 1TD and 3 interceptions thrown. His receiver Samuel Deland was solid with 74 yards and a touchdown, but he struggled to connect with the rest of the squad. For New Diablos, Alexis Bessette was targeted a whopping 11 times and was able to come down with 6 of his targets for 108 yards and 3TDs. He now sits atop Tier 3 with 7TDs in 3 games. His 243 yards also put him 2nd with one game less played than number 1 Greg Kritselas.

Wide Open Bar 18-42 Joes Panini

Joes Panini were with AJ Zeppetelli for the first time this season but him and his brother Mathew didn’t skip a beat. AJ had 122 yards and 5TDs while Mathew threw for 7 and 242 yards. Michael Caparelli was a nightmare for Wide Open Bar QB Louis Lussier who threw 3 interceptions to Caparelli and 4 total. The 77 yards passing and 2TDs thrown are not encouraging, especially for a team which was competing in Div4 Winter 2023.

Born in the 80’s 29-36 Killer Rays

Up 29-22 at half, Born in the 80s were unable to score again and lose by 7 points to Killer Rays. David de Andrade and Craig Browning were making it work offensively. Browning had more than half the yards of his team and added 2 TDs. But, they were overshadowed by the connection between Tylar Bianchi and Tyler Gurberg, the latter catching 11 passes for 130 yards and 3TDs. Killer Rays move to 2-1, while Born in the 80s fall to 1-1-1.

Team of the week

QB: Mathew Zeppetelli went 23 for 29, 242 yards, 7TDs, 0 interceptions and a 141.0 Passer Rating

WR1: AJ Zeppetelli had 7 catches for 122 yards and 5TDs

WR2: Nicolas Macduff had 5TDs and 103 yards.

DB1: Sam Anastasopoulos had 8 tackles, 2 interceptions (1TD) and 2 PDs

DB2: Michael Caparelli had 3 INTs

2-WAY1: Alexandre Delisle for his 72 yards, 3TDs and difference making pick 6 in a big win for Lightwork against Bleue Dry
