WEEK 12 is over! It’s time for the Playoffs!

Co-Ed 1, its PLAYOFFS baby! Welcome to the Postseason! Thank you to PARTY MIX, BALL BUSTERS, and LES BLEUS for your season and your competition! As always, we hope you come back next season. Continuity is key in FPF for success, and you can always dismiss a season as a warm up if needed :). For the rest of you survivors of Co-Ed 1, if you want an accurate, in depth breakdown of how the playoffs work, please go to the FPF website or watch the Podcast: Calling the Audible. However, for those of you who are too lazy or don’t care, you can always take my word for it and take the chance that I’m wrong sometimes.

Our top 6 teams of the division receive a bye game while teams ranked 7-10 duke it out to remain in the playoffs, with the honor of facing the 1st and 2nd seeds upon their wins. THE FUNNY CLUB (7) will go against EZFUN (10), while the GIRLS SCOUTS (8) will try to sell cookies to THE JUSTICE LEAGUE (9). Both the Divisional Round and the Quarter Finals are being played on Sunday April 2nd. So let’s check our list of games this weekend and see what wonderful football FPF has in store for us and who might be making it to next week’s Semi-Finals:

Divisional Round:

THE FUNNY CLUB (7) vs EZFUN (10)

GIRL SCOUTS (8) vs JUSTICE LEAGUE (9)

Quarter-Finals:

NORTHERN BRAVES (1) vs Lowest Seed

KISS MY OUTLAWS (2) vs 2nd Lowest Seed

FAST NOT FURIOUS vs LES PETITS PHOQUES

POWER RANGERS vs FREE SMOKE

THE UNSTOPPABLE THOUGHTS OF A MAD MAN

  • Jonathan Maheu was able to stay ahead of the other QB’s in terms of TDs and Low INTs! Sara Paker was able to pass him in yards (Congratulations!) and pass completions, but will it be enough to make it into All Stars? ( I do actually think so…). Guillaume Beland gets honorable mention for racking up 300+ Rushing yards and 5 Rushing TDs!
  • What a toss up for who I think Defensive Player of the year might go to. Keep in mind, I’m just some random dude who holds no sway over these things, but if i could choose, I think i’d go with Jessica Bositampen! I think Quayside Gordon-Maule and James Drysdale are close runner-ups, but as a rusher myself and the impact it has on opposing QB’s, 21 sacks cannot be ignored! It’s a good thing they all play for the same team then right!? Look out for this terrifying trio in the playoffs.
  • Obviously the NORTHERN BRAVES finished 10-0. Undefeated in the regular season, this team full of athletes should only get better, but a win by only 8 points to LES PETITS PHOQUES puts them on notice. Don’t slip up.
  • You know, I’ve never really looked at conversions before… but why not take a quick gander. The player who has scored the most points for their teams through conversions is BALL BUSTERS very own: Sean Kennedy! Scoring an additional 11 total points for his team. (7x 1pts conversions and 2x 2pt conversion)
  • And so, as it was foretold long ago, Lauriane Beauchamp has remained the Queen of Receivers. She climbed only 1 additional TD in her last game, but could have fallen asleep 2 games ago and still been on top. She was able to get 28 tackles along with those receptions, making her one of the most important pieces of this team this year.
  • Just as I was talking about KISS MY OUTLAWS being undefeated since Week 1, they went ahead and lost again, just to spite me! That’s determination. Losing 27-26 against THE FUNNY CLUB, KMO fell to 8-2 but were able to stay in the #2 seed. I don’t know if this means they aren’t as strong as I gave them credit for, or if they just had an off week…
  • Another upset of the week: THE JUSTICE LEAGUE overcoming the POWER RANGERS. I thought POWER RANGERS were going to finish 8-2 and instead they were brought down to a solid 6-4. Despite their record, I think they have the edge over FREE SMOKE, which should allow them to the Semi-Finals.

Divisional Round Breakdown:

The Funny Club VS EZFun:

Oh boy! Laughing to the bank, THE FUNNY CLUB finishes their season at 5-5, while EZFUN settles at 4-6. I find both of these teams having very similar skilled QB’s, but I give the edge to Guillaume Beland of FUNNY CLUB and his 5 Rushing TDs. The receiving core of EZFUN has been better at spreading the ball and TDs, making each receiver a core part of the unit. THE FUNNY CLUB is definitely able to get the ball moving with William Trottier, Jean-Daniel Chevalier and Vincent Morissette, but depth of roster (in my opinion) goes to EZFUN. Basically every receiver has played a large role, and even if they don’t have a lot of TDs, they can boast over 100 yards and a ton of targets. Both QBs have the ability to run around the field so both Alexa Demers-Pena and Joey St. Martin will have tough games on their hands. Limiting rushing yards from Guillaume is a MUST! Most of the pressure will be on Alexa to not allow Guillaume to score.

Defensively, both teams are sitting around the same number of INTs and PDs and Sacks! Where these teams differ however, is their Defensive TDs. EZFUN is sitting at 3 Defensive TDs, all held by different players: Etienne Laurence-Gervais, Jean-Cristophe Ferland, and Frederique Daoust. To me, this is a great first week Playoff matchup. THE FUNNY CLUB and EZFUN have not played against each other in the regular season, so we have no metric of their matchup, but on paper, these 2 teams are incredibly similar. Defensively, they are incredibly similar but my vote goes to EZFUN and the opposite is true for offense; I would give the edge to THE FUNNY CLUB.

Prediction: THE FUNNY CLUB 28 – 27 EZFUN

Girl Scouts VS The Justice League:

Again, Co-Ed 1 is just chalk full of talent. This week we have the top 2 female QBs going up against each other! It’s Sara Parker (43 TDs) VS Emmanuelle Bronsard (41 TDs), and despite Sara Parker having a few more TDs, Emmanuelle Bronsard has a history of being able to run, picking up 174 yards! Both ladies have 13 INTs and Emmanuelle, being shifty, has been able to avoid more sacks than Sara, who has gotten sacked 22 times! Both QBs have been successful in spreading the ball around their offense, but still have clear favorites. Sara Parker has targeted Amine Encina 59 times for 489 Yards, while Emmanuelle has targeted Gabriel-Charles Dabe Champagne 55 times for 568 Yards. This is going to come down to which QB can keep their heads in the game. With both of their rushers having less than 10 sacks (less than 1 per game), both Sara and Emmanuelle may have an easier time than usual getting the balls to their receivers.

Defensively, I think THE JUSTICE LEAGUE takes the advantage on this one. Allowing 17 less points against in the season, showing more PDs, and having some defensive TDs, might be the deciding factor in this offensive slugfest. Anthony Lapointe, Matthew Peacock, and Virginie Aubut-Menard are the defensive playmakers on this team, able to confidently cover the field. This is not to say that The GIRL SCOUTS are a weak team, only that they rely on Gabriel-Charles for their INTs and have used multiple different rushers to amount to their 9 sacks. They are much more reliant on individual players on defense, where I feel that the JUSTICE LEAGUE….. Has like…. A LEAGUE of defense. Needless to say, this is my PLAYOFF game of the week, the GIRLS beat the LEAGUE in Week 1, but I believe with the LEAGUE at her back, Sara Parker might walk away with this one! PROVE ME WRONG SCOUTS!

Prediction: GIRL SCOUTS 29 – 33 THE JUSTICE LEAGUE
