We Goin’ Sizzler – Week 8

Division D week 8, where has the defense gone? This week saw some high scoring games, all winning teams managed three TDs or more. The highest scoring game had seventy-five points, six games had fifty points or more. Which begs the question, is the Div. D offense that good or is the Div. D defense that bad? We also take a look at the playoff picture with only three weeks remaining.

Let’s get to the sizzle!

We begin with the Johnny Utah: CHRIS RIVEST went 16 for 26 for 197 yards with 5 TDs and 0 INTs as THE STOICS topped SPERA’S LEGION 33 – 12. The performance puts CHRIS over a thousand yards and over twenty TDs this season. THE STOICS have won three in a row now and they are rising at the best time, they have a difficult end of season schedule. SPERA’S LEGION lose their second in a row and drop to 9th spot, 2 points ahead of 12th spot.

Next, we have the Rod Tidwell: DAVID DE ANDRADE had 10 catches on 13 targets for 110 yards and 3 TDs in a losing effort as VULTURES held on to beat KISS MY END ZONE 41 – 34. DAVID was everywhere in this one and helped his team keep it close. The game went back and forth with a total of seventy-five points scored. With the loss KISS MY END ZONE drop to 10th while VULTURES move up to 2nd spot with the win.

The Earl Megget goes to BENJAMIN MCMAHON who ran 7 times for 67 yards and 1 rushing TD. Welcome back, it’s been a minute. BENJAMIN was able to avoid being sacked and avoid throwing INTs as VULTURES won their sixth game in a row. He also added a solid 5 throwing TDs. BENJAMIN is literally running away as the rush leader; 151 yards ahead of 2nd place.

On defense, the Stefan Djordjevic goes to the AROUCH duo ANTOINE PRÉFONTAINE and SIMON LOSIER who had 2 INTs each this week. The performance helped AROUCH pick up the points over FIGHTING ILLINI 25 – 6. AROUCH continue to be melting hot… and pick up their sixth win in a row, putting them in 1st spot. FIGHTING ILLINI sit in 9th spot, 2 points ahead of 12th spot, with two difficult games coming up.

The Bobby Boucher goes to GABRIEL WISEMAN, again, who had 3 SKs and forced 3 INTs. I have a request GABRIEL, please try to get a reception and an INT before the end of the season, it would be impressive to see a player hit all the stat columns. The performance helped the BRUINS narrowly defeat HOT SAUCE SPORTS 32 – 27. The BRUINS remain undefeated and this was the only opponent who could have surprised them. Will a 10-0-0 season jinx their playoff run? Only time will tell.

Lastly, the Becky ‘Icebox’ O’Shea for best 2-way performance goes to RILEY PINCOMBE who had 1 catch on 3 targets for 33 yards and 1 TD while added an INT for a pick 6 on defense. The performance helped PARDON MY SWAG dismantle BLACKOUTS 31 – 6 in what I had thought would be the game of the week. BLACKOUTS have lost three of their last four games and have serious QB issues; throwing 5 INTs in this game. PARDON MY SWAG continue to ball out with their sixth win in a row.

My pick for Game of the Week was disappointing as BLACKOUTS did not have the personnel to compete with PARDON MY SWAG. In hindsight the KISS MY END ZONEVULTURES game which had 11 offensive TDs would have been a beauty to watch.

Another game of interest was the GLOGANGMEAN GIRLS game which was stopped due to lightning. It will continue in week 11. MEAN GIRLS have a 12 – 0 lead but will feel a little jaded because GLOGANG was playing with 5 players. I wonder if they will be allowed to field a different roster?

Finally, I need to mention the THE NEW GUYSLOYOLA game. LOYOLA were a no show for, count them, the second time this season. Unbelievable, the league should consider a -1 for all forfeits because as it stands now, LOYOLA can still mathematically make the playoffs. Imagine that.

Now, for Teoli’s FPF Almanac 2021.

MEAN GIRLS [2-4-0] vs SPERA’S LEGION [2-4-1]

Two evenly matched teams, MEAN GIRLS are on a two-game winning streak while SPERA’S LEGION are on a two-game losing streak. The real issue in this one is SPERA’S LEGION defense, they only managed 1 PD last game. If you can’t manage to get a SK or an INT you will have a hard time winning games. Give me MEAN GIRLS for the win.

TUTS AND PARLAYS [4-3-0] vs LOYOLA [1-6-0]

TUTS AND PARLAYS win big! Maybe even by 60…

THE LEFTOVERS [2-6-0] vs PARDON MY SWAG [6-1-0]

I apologize in advance but not much to say about some of these match ups this week. PARDON MY SWAG win big!

PD’S AND NEGRONIS [1-7-0] vs AROUCH [6-1-0]

Again, AROUCH win big!

GLOGANG [3-2-1] vs TOUGH LUNGS [4-2-1]

Finally, GLOGANG are coming off a tie to a winless team and a close call to a forfeit. TOUGH LUNGS have been looking good and MATHEW LERNER has been spreading the ball around lately. If this trend continues, give me TOUGH LUNGS to be too much for GLOGANG to handle.

FIGHTING ILLINI [3-4-0] vs LOS SIETE AMIGOS [5-2-0]

FIGHTING ILLINI have been disappointing this year and the QB play has struggled. Look for that to continue against LOS SIETE AMIGOS who have the offensive weapons and, more importantly, the defensive presence to get those INTs. LOS SIETE AMIGOS win big!

BALLIN 60’S [1-6-0] vs KISS MY END ZONE [2-4-1]

Seems close in the standing but BALLIN 60’S struggles to beat a five-man team and KISS MY END ZONE have two wins but they were both very impressive wins. Look for DAVID DE ANDRADE to continue with the hot hands and kiss the end zone multiple times. KISS MY END ZONE win easy.

JOHNNY FIREBALL [5-3-0] vs TRAPSTARS [5-2-0]

JOHNNY FIREBALL have lost two in a row and are looking to bounce back. They really need to develop some quick short passing plays as opponents have started to figure them out. The runs are flashy but it doesn’t get you in the end zone. TRAPSTARS, on the other hand, are on a two-game winning streak. Their only two losses were close games and against solid opponents. Teams have figured JOHNNY FIREBALL out, look for TRAPSTARS to take the early lead. Can JOHNNY FIREBALL adapt? TRAPSTARS win a close one.

THE STOICS [4-3-0] vs BRUINS [7-0-0]

THE STOICS are on a three-game winning streak and CHRIS RIVEST is coming off a monster game. Unfortunately, it will not be enough, the BRUINS look unstoppable. GABRIEL WISEMAN seemingly can do it all, all five receivers have scored TDs, six players have INTs, this is a complete team. BRUINS win by six.

CLINKERS [2-5-0] vs VOODOO [3-4-1]

VOODOO are winless in four, an anomaly for a team with this roster. CLINKERS have had a good August so far and are looking more the part. Honestly, this game can go either way but PATRICK ST-AMAND and KEVIN MARCIL will get the job done defensively and help VOODOO bounce back with a win.

VULTURES [7-1-0] vs LOCKDOWN [1-5-1]

VULTURES win this one big and solidify their 2nd seed going into the playoffs.

HOT SAUCE SPORTS [3-4-0] vs REPLACEMENTS [0-6-1]

HOT SAUCE SPORTS are playing the only winless team in the division, HOT SAUCE SPORTS win big. This will be NIM JENIKOVSZKY last game in FPF, best of luck in your future endeavors.

LES BLUES BRANLEURS [2-4-1] vs THE NEW GUYS [6-1-0]

LES BLUES BRANLEURS have looked like a solid team after stumbling out of the gate week 1, they have been in every game but cannot seem to get the win versus the upper echelon teams. Enter, upper echelon team, THE NEW GUYS. It will be another close game, look for KYLE PEDVIS to have a solid game as #2 receiver and for JOSEPH KANO to get a chunk of yards in the check down roll. THE NEW GUYS win by six.

BLACKOUTS [5-3-0] vs TOPSZN [4-3-0]

Very interesting matchup here. BLACKOUTS are struggling, JULIEN LACHANCE needs to get out of his own head, drop back in the pocket, create time, and let routes develop in front of him. TOPSZN are coming off a win but have yet to hit their stride. If HASANI WORRELL, with 9 SKs and 8 PDs, can force JULIEN into early throws, TOPSZN have a chance. BLACKOUTS bounce back with a narrow win.

Playoffs, we talkin ‘bout playoffs!

Let’s take a week 8 look at the playoff picture.

Conference A:

  1. BRUINS (7-0-0)
  2. VULTURES (7-1-0)
  3. JOHNNY FIREBALL (5-3-0)
  4. TOUGH LUNGS (4-2-1)

BRUINS retain the top seed in Conference A and seem unstoppable. VULTURES hold on to 2nd seed and can solidify the spot with a win this week. JOHNNY FIREBALL continue to drop and now sit in 3rd seed, serious risk that they drop out of the top 4. TOUGH LUNGS jump up into 4th seed and are looking like they can make a push for 3rd. TRAPSTARS can leap frog into 4th with a big win this week.

Conference B:

  1. PARDON MY SWAG (6-1-0)
  2. THE NEW GUYS (6-1-0)
  3. AROUCH (6-1-0)
  4. LOS SIETE AMIGOS (5-2-0)

PARDON MY SWAG jump all the way up to top seed and deservingly so. They should win out. THE NEW GUYS stay in 2nd seed but have a difficult schedule ahead. AROUCH sit in 3rd seed but technically tied for top spot. LOS SIETE AMIGOS jump into the top 4. BLACKOUTS continue to drop and are now out of the top 4.

Looking forward to week 9, the game to watch is JOHNNY FIREBALL [5-3-0] vs TRAPSTARS [5-2-0] August 20th 7pm Laval (2). Both teams are very high scoring so look for 80+ points in this one. Although, for you defensive lovers, BLACKOUTS [5-3-0] vs TOPSZN [4-3-0] August 23rd 9pm Brossard (3). This will be more of a tactical defensive game.

Until next week, Pain Heals. Chicks Dig Scars. Glory Lasts Forever.
