Upsets and Standout Performances in Tier 2

Having a tier wide bye week in week 1 puts us already week 3. Week 2 shook the foundation of Tier 2 and most of my expectations, delivering a torrent of upsets and jaw-dropping outcomes. As we move into Week 3, the stage is set for another thrilling week in this fall season. With teams recalibrating their strategies and refining their game plans, Week 3 promises to be just as exciting. I think the most exciting aspect of tier 2 is to see returning teams move up the ranks and seasoned vets still working on their game and trying to reach the top! This week ill go over some of tier 2’s top headlines, game of the week and some of last weeks best performances. So, fasten your seatbelts and get ready for an action-packed Week 3, where the gridiron becomes a battleground, and every play is a potential game-changer.

Tier 2 Headlines

The Infantry takes down Dime and Bougie

In a showdown that defied all odds, Dime and Bougie,  as the favourites, faced off against the determined Infantry in a contest of two great teams. The final score: 27-26. Jules Regimbald, the maestro of Dime and Bougie’s offense, had a performance that showcased his mastery under center. With precision passes and calculated plays, he navigated the field with finesse, creating opportunities that put their team in favourable positions. However, despite his brilliance, the team struggled to convert on a key moment. On the other side, Zack Stacey, facing a top defense, exhibited nerves of steel. Coming out hot and leading 21-14 into halftime.  As the clock ticked down, and with just a few plays left the Infantry made a costly mistake and threw an interception. A game-changing play from Arthur Doyon that had everyone thinking that Dime and Bougie would score, go for 2 and take the lead. Regimbald was able to connect with Felix Boutet for a third time and get within 2 points of winning the game. In the end, Dime and Bougie’s valiant effort fell agonizingly short. They played their hearts out, but were not able to capitalize and finish their drive as going for 2 to win the game was unsuccessful. This match will undoubtedly be remembered as a classic and a future matchup to keep an eye out for. One thing is certain, The Infantry are a REAL threat this season for tier 2.

The Stoics impress but fail to get a W in week 1

The Stoics who I assumed would not be a top 10 team played 2 very tough opponents here in week 1. Despite them coming out of week one 0-1-1, they have a lot to feel good about. A Tie against Arouch in game one might feel like a loss as I know they feel like that should have been one they should have came out with the W. But what I see as important is the fact that Chris Rivest came out strong and completed 80 % of his passes, threw 4 TD’s and did not turn the ball over. In tight matches, FPF is a game of converts and both teams only converted 1 of 4. That would be the key focus if I were the stoics. Playing a double header week, The stoics impressed me once again and just fell short by 1 point against the infantry who just knocked off the team to beat in Dime and Bougie. Unfortunately another story of unsuccessful converts as The stoics were able to score on their last possession and go for 2 to take the lead. But couldn’t hook up for the score and took an unfortunate loss. There still is time for the Stoics to get back on track but when you play well, you hate to see no results.

Matchup of the Week

The Infantry (2-0) Vs. Dirty Birds (2-0)

The undefeated Dirty Birds and The Infantry are set to square off, pitting two of Tier 2’s Top Dogs against one another. Both sides have emerged unscathed so far, setting the stage for a showdown that will undoubtedly have an entertaining outcome. The Dirty Birds have been nothing short of explosive in the opening weeks of the season, rattling off an astonishing 98 combined points. At the heart of this offensive barrage is Quaid Johnson, who has shown remarkable poise under center, elevating the team’s performance compared to last spring. The question that lingers is how this revitalized Dirty Birds squad will fare against the challenge posed by The Infantry. On the flip side, The Infantry, led by the dynamic Zack Stacey, have also secured an unblemished record, but not without a few hiccups. Stacey has tossed three interceptions in just two games, a trend that could prove pivotal in a matchup of this magnitude. All eyes will be on Stacey, to see whether he can tighten up his play against a potent Dirty Birds defense. Much anticipation for this contest, with expectations sky-high for a high-octane offensive shootout. Both teams have demonstrated an ability to light up the scoreboard, and it’s this potential for fireworks that has me so hyped for this week 3 matchup.

Keep a keen eye on James Ohayan. The towering receiver has already hauled in four touchdown passes, and it’s doubtful that The Infantry possesses a cornerback capable of containing him one-on-one. The schematic use of Ohayan and James Tyrell could very well be the key to unlocking Dirty Birds’ full offensive potential. In what is undoubtedly a matchup brimming with star power and game-changing potential, this clash between the Dirty Birds and The Infantry is sure to be an electrifying moment in this FFP Cup.

I predict this game to back and forth with both offenses scoring at a high percentage, Extra points will be a huge factor. I think the infantry will lead early and head into half time with a one score lead. Zack stacey plays mistake free until their last drive and turned the ball over. James Ohayan scores the game winning touchdown to keep dirty Birds undefeated by a score of 37-31.

Week 1 Top Performers

QB: Quaid Johnson- Dirty Birds

This one was the easiest to select as Quaid Johnson not only had one but 2 performances in week 2 that could have gave him this honour. In his first game of the season Quaid threw for 254 yards and 7 Tds against beer belly brigade. He diced up the defence in every way and didn’t punt or turn the ball over once. I’d say I’m surprised that quaid didn’t attempt one run but with the way he was throwing the ball I could see why he didn’t. A perfect game for Johnson as he wasn’t sacked in either of his first two games. His receivers James squared ohayan and tyrell really make his life easier. This offence is LEGIT and Quaid has had the hottest start of the season so far.

WR: Kevin Donnet- Ambush

A lot of great Wr performances from week two but the one that stood out most for me was Keven Donnet of Ambush. He caught 10 passes on 10 targets for 93 yards. He even found the end zone 3 times. What impressed me the most was that he was a target in the red-zone for a score and also caught a 40 yard bomb for another score. He beat the that’s what she said defence. Unfortunately his outstanding performance wasn’t enough to get the W. Either way if Kevin Donnet is targeted this many times in their next couple of games he can stuff the receiving stat sheet.

DEF: David Gutkovski- Fins up

A huge win for Fins up a a big thanks to David Gutkovski. First and foremost I would like to congratulate David on getting his first pick 6 in FPF. He finished the game with 1 tackle 2 ints and one TD. A big 47-12 win for Fins up where their defence killed it. 3 total INTS for the defence, 1 punt forced and Voodoo completed only half of their passes. David currently leads tier 2 in INTS with only 1 game played. Opposing QB’s looking to throw away from some of their FPF veterans might want to stay away from Gutkovski as well.

2-Way: Kristopher Verrault- Thats What She Said

Kristopher Verrault suited up twice in week 2 and was a true force on both sides of the field for “That’s What She Said.” Verrault’s week 2 performance was nothing short of spectacular. As a wide receiver, he showcased his ability to find the end zone, recording an impressive four touchdowns and amassing an astounding 135 yards. His presence on the offence. But Verrault’s contributions didn’t stop there. As a defensive back, he secured a crucial interception and returning it for a touchdown allowing his team to win against Ambush. Unfortunately in their second game of the week versus Kiss My inlaws, Verrault’s 3 TD game wasn’t enough to secure them the win. With a total of five touchdowns in just two games, Kris Verrault has proven himself as a true game-changer for “That’s What She Said.”
