Tier 2: Playoffs Round 2

Playoffs Round 2

Welcome back to another edition of tier 2 Flag Plus news. After a exciting round 1 of the playoffs I can’t wait to see what this next round has in store. So far we have seen 5 teams eliminates from the race to the championship and only 4 teams still have a double elimination chance. These 4 teams will meet tonight in the top bracket to decide who will play in the semi final in the top bracket. Lets dive into some of last weeks recaps and the game on my radar for this week.

Weekly headlines

Dirty Birds upset Kiss my In-laws

In a stunning turn of events during the first round of the playoffs, the underdog Dirty Birds managed to upset the #4 seed Kiss My Inwlas (KMI) with a final score of 32-26. Despite missing key players, including their top receiver Vincent Benjamin, who led the division in receiving touchdowns, KMI faced a tough challenge from a determined Dirty Birds.

The absence of Vincent Benjamin, a crucial figure in KMI’s offensive lineup, undoubtedly impacted their performance. However, the Dirty Birds showed up to play and seized the opportunity to secure an unexpected victory against this 7-1 team to keep them in the top bracket of tier 2. One standout performer of the game was Justin Blackie of the Dirty Birds. Blackie’s exceptional skills were on full display as he caught seven passes, scoring two touchdowns on offense. Demonstrating his versatility, Blackie also made a significant impact on the defensive end by intercepting a pass. His all-around performance played a large role in the Dirty Birds’ successThe Dirty Birds’ victory serves as a reminder that in the unpredictable world of sports, anything can happen during playoff season. KMI was forced to play a second game the same night against a lower bracket winner and their next opponent happened to be voodoo who cam off a win against game changers. KMI was able to defeat voodoo 36-19 and kept their playoff hopes alive! A very exciting way to kick off the Fall Cup.

Big performance from Zach Stacey

During the first round of the playoffs, quarterback Zack Stacey emerged as the driving force behind an impressive performance by the Infantry, securing a one possession 46-39 win against Fins Up. Despite facing a top defense , Stacey’s precision and poise proved to be the deciding factors in this high-stakes matchup. Fins Up, known for their staunch defense, found themselves unable to contain the relentless assault led by Stacey. The quarterback’s stat line was nothing short of extraordinary, completing an impressive 28 out of 32 passes for over 280 yards. However, what truly set Stacey apart was his remarkable seven touchdown passes, showing his ability to elevate his team in crucial playoff moments.

His ability to read the defense, make accurate throws, and capitalize on scoring opportunities played a the biggest role in dismantling a defense known for its resilience and tight coverage. This round 1 win against Fins Up serves as a statement for the Infantry who believe they are the best team in this division who emphasized their offensive firepower in the face of a strong opponent. As the Infantry advances to the next round, they carry the momentum from Stacey’s stellar showing. Opposing teams will undoubtedly take notice, making defensive adjustments to contend with the dynamic quarterback who orchestrated a memorable victory in round 1.

Spotlight matchup of the week

The Stoics (4-3-1) Vs. Les potes a bessette (3-5)

In a compelling Round 2 matchup, the Stoics (4-3-1) square off against Les Potes a Bessette (3-5) in a clash that promises to be a spotlight moment in the ongoing postseason drama. The Stoics, having secured a solid 4-3-1 record in the regular season, find themselves in the top bracket, a testament to their consistent performance led by quarterback Chris Rivest. Rivest, the maestro behind the Stoics’ offense, has been a standout performer with an impressive 33 touchdowns and a mere 4 interceptions in eight games. However, their Round 1 encounter against the outstanding 7-1 EZW proved challenging, resulting in a tough loss. Now, with their double elimination opportunity, the Stoics are eager to bounce back and showcase why they earned their spot among the top eight seeds. On the flip side, Les Potes a Bessette enter this Round 2 matchup with momentum after a convincing win in the lower bracket. Their 38-33 triumph over The Boys Are Back has fuelled their confidence, setting the stage for an intriguing clash with the Stoics. After the great season from Chris Rivest, I do think he will have a tougher time against this defence, as they are bigger and faster then most of The Stoics Wide receivers. The mid season addition of Jeanslee Alexis has been huge, he will need large numbers to give stoics the boost they need. QB Frédéric Paquette-Perrault, has also been progressing throughout the season and has an unbelievable connection with Tristan Cassault. I think if these two get going and connect for more then 6 passes and one TD it will be a long day for the Stoics defence.  The question looms: Can Les Potes a Bessette build on their Round 1 success and pull off another upset, or will the Stoics demonstrate why they finished the regular season with a better record?

This spotlight matchup encapsulates the essence of playoff football and the resilience of a team facing adversity and the determination of another seeking a chance to play one more game at a time. As the Stoics aim for redemption and Les Potes a Bessette look to extend their playoff run, we can anticipate a thrilling showdown that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on this postseason narrative. As the drama unfolds on the gridiron, this Round 2 clash promises to be a must-watch, with both teams vying for supremacy and the chance to advance deeper into the championship chase.

FPF Fantasy

The only thing that could make watching FPF football is if we had FPF fantasy football implications. With all the studs we have in tier 2 I think theres many players who could put up solid numbers week in and week out. Although I have no opponent to go up against if I select a standard fantasy football formatted team, so I will try to select a team that I think can score an absurd amount of points so I would beat almost anyone. I think that number looms around 120 points. Obviously we have no RBs in FPF so I will select 1 QB,  4 receivers and 1 defence, so to reach my goal of 120 each player selected needs to average 20 points. So here are the players I think will have the best week in this next round of playoffs.

QB: Jeremy White- EZW

WR1: Rory Semerjian- The Infantry

WR2: Felix Boutet- Dime and Bougie

WR3: Khalil Kerr- Dirt Birds

WR4: Tristan Fiske-Casault- Les Potes a Besette

DEF: Ambush
