They Can’t All Be Amazing!

Usually I like to come up with something personal and clever, but I’m running behind schedule this week and don’t have time for a long blog! Sorry for the late entry, and now it’s revealed that I write my Intro’s at the end and not the beginning. Also, there will be no breakdowns on this article, because then it would take too much time and we would be too far into next week! I’ll cover both Divisions’ teams in my next article, fear not! Without further ado (cause I have to go start on the next article ASAP), Presenting, the one, the only, Division 5A/B Week 4:

.

FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH:

  • 5A: I can’t believe it! Not only did THUNDER BUDDIES score the most points in the season yet (51), but they also kept the STEPBROTHERS offence from scoring a single TD. Luckily, STEPBROTHERS were able to score on an intercepted 1-pt conversion attempt and not be entirely shut out. Both BROTHERS and BUDDIES get a well deserved week off.
  • 5B: Something must be off in the FPF system, because the WIN DIESEL vs BREWERS game has yet to be posted! How can I make snippy comments and snide remarks if I don’t have the numbers to back me up!? I’ll take a shot at it without having seen the game: “Wow! I knew the Brewers were going to have a tough time against WIN DIESEL, but that many INTs hurts. Luckily, Brewers were able to get a few points on (arguably) the best team in the division, and show that their defence can make the occasional turnover! Brewers hit up LES TONDEUSES next week, which may be a hard game for them due to their history of high scoring games!” Lets see how close I got when their game gets posted.
  • Random Thought – Week 7 is our Mid Season Review. Not only will I be giving my Power Rankings, but I’ll also be looking out for potential Award Winners for this year! For those who are not aware: At the end of every season, FPF votes on players to receive their various awards based on their performance during the season. They also nominate All-Star players who have had stand out performances to join them in the All-Star game at the end of the season. The FPF awards are – QB of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and 2-Way Player of the Year. Good Luck everyone!
  • 5A: Both Terry Babalis and George Spano have 15 TDs in 3 games! Though Babalis has been sacked more and thrown more INTs, he also has a rushing TD and 43 yards, despite his repeated attempts at convincing me he definitely isn’t running this season (I’m on to you Terry). Will anybody else be able to catch up to these 2 QBs, or is it a race to the finish for QB of the year? I’ll take another look in 3-4 weeks to see how things have panned out.
  • 5B: Man o’ man! MACCABEES came out swinging against THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT! QB for MACCABEES, Shimmy Cons, was able to score 6 TDS and practically 200 Yards on offense! Having gotten a free win via forfeit last week, I thought MACCABEES would be sluggish off the start and take an ‘L’ against TLM, but putting up 39pts should always get you the win and definitely subverts the idea that you are sluggish. Moe was ranting and raving about this team, so I’m happy they are living up to the hype!
  • I took IN N’ OUT to win over PASTA ARRABIAT but to my surprise, they tied!! The first team to tie in Division 5A despite our new overtime rule. IN N’ OUT opted to go for 1pt in their O.T. shot and missed, giving the NOODLES a chance at their own win! Unfortunately for PASTA, they also missed their 1pt attempt and the game ended in a tie. With the tie, IN N’ OUT are still looking for their first win. Will 3rd time be the charm, or will VULTURES snatch the win away from them looking for their 1st win!?
  • NOTORIOUS C.I.G. took a loss against HAIL MARTY’S and is no longer one of our undefeated teams. DUCKS and IN N’ OUT are still left undefeated in 5A (LES PETITES CAROTTES need to play more games before they can be considered undefeated) and don’t play against each other during the season, so both can technically go undefeated this season. 5B keeps adding more and more teams to their undefeated list as other teams fall out. Until the race narrows, I have no idea who is truly undefeated quality or who is just here visiting.
  • Adam Antel, Jessy Dumeignil, and Massimo Massari are leading Division 5B in TDs! 7 TDs each! 7-7-7, that’s supposed to be lucky or something right!? With all of these teams playing this week, who will take the lead, and will they be able to keep it?! With multiple teams in both divisions finally hitting the 100 Points Scored already in 3 games, will we be seeing any teams who are able to put up 225+ pts?

DEATH BATTLE BREAKDOWN:

5B

KICKING ASSETS vs MACCABEES

Well look at this conveniently placed Wednesday game that hasn’t happened yet! This is a funny match to assess because MACCABEES haven’t had the opportunity to establish their consistency yet. Due to a forfeit, not only do they get a free 30pts for offence, but also nothing added to their Points Against. Then, just to prove they would have done it anyway, MACCABEES put up 39pts against THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT – but allowed 31pts in the process. We don’t know definitively, but I do see Shimmy Cons with an incredible 1st game display, almost catching up with KICKING ASSETS’ QB: Mathew Lamorte. Both teams look as though they can spread the ball well, and with 3 receivers having over 100 yards, I would give the advantage on offense to KICKING ASSETS. However, when you have 8 TDs thrown as a QB, 5 of them coming from 1 player could be a dangerous thing!

Defensively, KICKING ASSETS were having trouble keeping their opponents under 30pts, but caught a nice break in routine against RETIRED ALL-STARS last week. MACCABEES let up 31 points in their first showing. Was that forfeit a blessing for them? KICKING ASSETS have been able to put up 3-4 TDs a game, will MACCABEES be able to have a repeat of last week’s performance? KICKING ASSETS do have more games under their belt and came out with a big win last week, but I think MACCABEES are too pumped up to lose right now.

Prediction: KICKING ASSETS 32 – 38  MACCABEES
