The Wrath of Khan (DA) – Week 8

As the FPF season rounds the final corner towards the home stretch, the DA script went according to plan. In fact, the DA playoff seeding was well determined by week three, which was a buzz killer since anyone who partakes in FPF, wishes that it will go right down to the wire.

At this point, I hope that teams such as the 49ers, and Titans will continue to put up a fight because they should end their seasons on a good note.

Both of these clubs, have talent, albeit, in the case of the 49ers, it is still in the developing stages. I think its time for them to go back to the drawing board, and look at acquiring some player personnel that will help them out in the long run.

Tune in next week, as I will give my final analysis of both of the squads and what they need to do to improve for winter 2010.

As we embark on the last two weeks of the FPF season, it is time to identify the player that will have an impact for their team in the playoffs. Although, I have taken in consideration, the playoff seeding, these player(s) that I have marked will need to come up with big performances.

Impact Players

This season, the Rainmakers have encountered plenty of obstacles, but yet, they are still in the thick of the DA race. It seems that no matter who is quarterbacking this squad, they win! In addition, they are the first ever DA team to win with three different quarterbacks in the same season.

Key player: Whoever is quarterbacking this squad. Whether it‘s Ryan Kastner, Ryne Bondy, or Bobby Mikelberg This team is successful due to their system that predicates the quarterback to make the correct reads. The Rainmakers will go as far with Bondy or Mikelberg will take them if they play within the system. These two have combined to pass for 470 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

It is obvious that their receivers have made life easier led by Michael Chitiyat, and the afformentioned Bobby Mikelberg who have accumulated a total of 46 receptions, 541 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns. But the Rainmakers know it is their field general that will lead them to the promise land.

Texas All-Stars, life was effortless in DB, as they thoroughly handled their competition. However, since their promotion to upper echelon, it has not been smooth sailing. Nathan Taylor has had a difficult time adjusting to the DA game as he has completed a mere 47.9-percent of his passes.

From all indications this team is mere seconds away from imploding. Moreover, it did not help the team morale, when it seemed that everyone was criticizing each other in their post game loss to the Rainmakers.

Key player: How about their emotions. There is always some form of demonstrative outburst from this team. As a result, if the All-Stars are to create any positive noise, Nathan Taylor will need to take the bull by the horns and steer it in the proper direction. The All-Stars are athletically gifted, but mentally they are still learning. No matter which league they play in, their emotions will get the better of them in the end.

Ruff Ryders of Happiness finally had their full squad in the building as they clobbered the lowly 49ers. It is apparent that the team needs Benny Goodfriend to shepherd them through the wilderness. Even though the Happiness has a unique group of characters, who says that, they cannot win a championship? Just look at the old Oakland/L.A. Raider teams that had the most odd ball players that won two Super Bowls in early 80s.

Now, I am not saying the Happiness is unusual people, but they do interact with each other in a distinctive way. But yet, they still win games, because they know that when it is time to get serious, they will never allow an individual to become the vocal point when it is a team game.

Key player: Without a doubt, Ricky Martin. His ability to cover the entire field will provide a huge difference for this team. This team relies on forcing the quarterback making the wrong decision, thus, resulting in a turnover for them. It seems, no matter where the ball is thrown, Martin is in every play. Even though his statistics will not vouch for his game-play (one interception), keep an eye on what he does on the field. He has his radar on the football, no matter where it is, Martin will have the last word on the play.

This season, the Shockers have been like a yo-yo. Whether it is their inauspicious offense, roster personnel, or just simply taking their opponent too lightly. The Shockers have been a team of a thousand storylines. Now, it seems they are peaking at the right time to solidify themselves as the legitimate number one seed in the DA playoffs. But are they peaking too early?

In the last two games, they have scored 34 or more points, whereas in the first six weeks, the Shockers only put up 30-plus points twice. The Shockers offense is getting in sync, but is it too early?

Keep in-mind, if they do advance to the finals, there will be two bye weeks, which might put this offense in reverse due to the time off.

Key player: The original Shocker players not named Andre Knights. I am referring to Gary Bloomfield, Ros Castleton, Mike Godyn, and Stephen Primeau. The original core of this franchise will need to step up their play. Yes, Jason Prince is an original member, but he opted for the riches of the vector family. So far this season, the original members have combined for 38 receptions, 420 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. This is compared to the duo of Andre Knights, and Kishon Thompson who collectively have 50 receptions, 555 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns. If this Shockers team wants to a DA title, its time that the original members take their play to next level and be remembered as champions. Otherwise, this franchised will be remembered for what Karim Binette, Kishon Thompson, and Kevin Wyeth did for this squad.
