The Truth: Serious Buckle Division 1 & 2

It’s very rare to find ourselves this deep into the season and still have no one mathematically out of contention. Luckily, this will ensure everyone’s presence going forward, and most likely, some very highly competitive games. I’ve been extremely pleased so far this year with the level of play on the field. I feel like this season is the first building stone for a new future in FPF. I can’t help but feel like there is a new class of players ready to take over the league. It’s only natural that with time, guys get older, slow down, and ultimately take a new role on the team. Only those of you who fight time with stubbornness will find yourself dropping back into the shadows. It’s time to freshen up with youth, or disappear like dinosaurs. We would all like to believe we can still play like we used to, but that’s simply unrealistic. Don’t get me wrong; I hope to play at the same level as some of the older players in this league when I reach their age. When that time comes, I’ll be honest with myself and take the back seat. At the end of the day guys, doesn’t matter how you win. No one ever remembers the details, just who won the championship.

Quick thoughts

  • – I really wished we’d take the number of games into consideration when we pick awards. (editor’s note: we do!)
  • – I might have been harsh on Damps 25/8 early in the season, but look at them now. They’ve won 2 of their last three. Yes, they are still in very deep and shark infested waters. At least they pulled aboard a lifeboat.
  • – Terror Squad has finally created distance between 1st and second place. Now it’s time for Conference B to do the same.
  • – D-Boys, Terror Squad, Clockwork, Gladiateurs and Served With Ice have all clinched.
  • – Don’t all look at the same time but it looks like Kevin Wyeth is on his way to win his 12th quarterback award. He had a bit of a bump in the road last week, but I’m sure he’ll handle everything on his plate and be the force we know him as shortly.
  • – Getting a couple sneak peaks into the record books made me even more anxious for its’ upload. I don’t know about you, but I feel like it’s going to be super interesting.
  • – Two weeks remain for division two; and three weeks for division one.
  • – Loonatics had a million dropped balls and still found a way to win a huge game.
  • – I saw a video of Theo Ojeaha’s pick against Montreal’s Finest… it reminded me of a center fielder stealing a home run
  • – Speaking of Montreal’s Finest, they really have no love for D-Boys and won’t have anymore after losing to them again. This game was really edgy; good for the referees for getting it under control.
  • – How about my boy Leonardo Dicaprio!!! For a while I thought he had slept with the wrong mans’ wife. I guess everything is back to order, and all parties have gotten over what ever it is happened. If you disagree with me on the fact that Leo should have at least three Oscars by now, you belong in the same hole as people who break into cars.

Re-cap:

Montreal’s Finest 20 – D-Boys 25

-I told you last week I didn’t think the outcome of this game mattered. Both these teams are going to get a first round bye, and both these teams are going to be in the finals. That being said, if there’s one thing I’ve learned through playing and coaching, beating the same team three times in one season is not easy. No matter how badly you might have outclassed them in the first game (which was not the case here), beating a team three times is not an easy task. Including this summers’ finals, in the past three games, D-Boys are 3-0. Theo Ojeaha’s wicked one handed pick must have felt like a cold shower for Finest who ultimately could have used this win for their confidence. See you guys in the finals.

Loonatics 26 – Rainmakers 20

-I praised Ryan Kastner as one of the elite quarterbacks in this league last week. In return, he hands me one of his worst performances of the season. Ryan missed on a couple key plays and had no answer for Paul Lapierre who played rush last week. Paul ended up deflecting 3 balls as a rusher, one of which was picked off by Zach Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald who is in his second season and Youssy Pierre who is playing his first season in FPF seem to have gotten very comfortable very quickly out on the flag field. Two key guys for Loonatics who in the future are going to give a fresh breath of youth to an ever-aging division.

Monstars 61 – Wolverines 20

-“Don’t count them out”, I said. Well look at them now! Rod Mashtoub throws for 9 touchdowns to give his team a chance. After starting the year 1-3, they’ve won their last four and sit in the drivers seat with their fate in hand. Rod was very effective spreading the ball to several receivers. Jad Aridi, Serge Pilon, Theo Bekelis, and Alex Pilon all caught two touchdown passes. Although having the Pilon twins is a luxury, it’s one he’ll have to do without in the playoffs. Luckily for the Wolverines, the teams behind them are losing. The Wolverines also hold the head to head against both teams in the rear view mirror, so they can still sleep with both eyes shut for now. Every game from here on out will be a must win for both teams.

Damps 25/8 41 – Legends 38

-This one came down to one team being hungrier than the other for the win. Damps had two big red zone stops and looked to get under Cory Pecker’s skin who instead of focusing on the next play he wasted a lot of energy on trying to get penalties called by the refs. Andrew Treffeisen continues to put the team on his back. Two big sacks on defense plus a backbreaking 40-yard run for a touchdown to take the lead late in the game was more than enough to seal the deal. Ryan Lelinowski did everything he could to help the Legends; 8 catches for 130 yards and 4 touchdowns just wasn’t enough. Ryan should have had at least one more touchdown, but Cory missed him twice in the end zone. Damps need to win the next two games to improve their standings and more importantly their divisional record. As for the Legends, this loss is not devastating since both Chernobyl and Raiders lost as well.

Served With ice 31 – Raiders 26

-A closer game than I would of imagined. The difference in this one was Raiders’ inability to close drives. Twice Rick Nincheri actively drove the entire field, only to throw an interception from the two-yard line. Jean Daniel Chevalier was the beneficiary of those bad throws. JD finished the game with 2 interceptions on defense plus 9 catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Penetta missed JD from their own one-yard line, which would have been a 50-yard touchdown. Jordan is one of the player whose award status will be affected by his number of games played; if you prorate his numbers, he’d be leading division two in numerous categories.

Vinni’s Stud squad:

QB: Alex Nadeau Piuze (FML) 21/33 for 213 yards and 6 TDs plus 34 yards rushing. Although his team is in the doghouse, Alex is a competitor and he won’t slow down until the last whistle.

Two-way: Rod Mashtoub (MON) 23/24 for 255 yards and 9 TDs plus 19 yards rushing. He also added 2 interceptions and two tackles. A stud…quickly growing as a top quarterback in the upper divisions.

WR: Youssy Pierre (LTS) 5 receptions for 84 yards and 3 TDs. For his first season in this league, Youssy has hit the ground running: Stud Status activated.

WR: Ryan Lelinowski (LEG) 8 receptions for 130 yards and 4 TDs. Ryan is very much needed in the Legends’ offense. The speed and football IQ he brings to this roster makes him a necessity going forward.

DB: JC Mercille (GSL) 2 interceptions and 2 tackles. Although I feel like this is a mistake in the statistics, JC deserves a bit of credit for the two interceptions. Seeing as he is not known for his defensive ability but more so as a dominant snapper, his Stud status is activated but on a short clock 😉

The race gets tighter after a tight win by me. Even without a QB in my line up I was able to take Nate down this week. Nate still leads 4-3 but I feel good going forward.

My picks and spread:

6/12 last week, I almost enjoy being wrong when making these picks… not! I promise to improve moving forward. I currently have a total of 40/80 after seven weeks played. I want to finish the season above 60%; that’s the goal.

Division One:

Montreal’s Finest  VS Loonatics

D-Boys VS CBL

Flag Moi L’sac VS Rainmakers

DK VS Got-Skills

Division Two:

Terror Squad VS Legends

O.N.S. VS Wild Boys

Gladiateurs VS Served With Ice

Clockwork VS Monstars

Solide VS #NR

Chernobyl VS Wolverines

Untouchables VS Raiders

CLR Forces VS Damps 25/8

Game of the week :

O.N.S. VS Wild Boys

A battle for a place into the playoffs in Conference A. The winner of this game will most likely secure the 6th seed with a win. One thing they will secure for sure is the head to head in the case of a tie down the road. Wild Boys have had an up and down season with a couple really bright highlights along the way. O.N.S. has done exactly what they do every year. They stink on defense, and put a million pounds of pressure on Kevin Wyeth.

Keys:

Jacques Void VS A horrible defense

Kevin Wyeth VS The World

Chris Pinsonneault & Scott Payne VS Perry’s & Kevin Glanville

The issue for both teams has been defense. Wildboys only have 4 turnovers. The 4 interceptions you see next to Jacques Voids’ name never took place and I don’t know why they are still there.  O.N.S. collectively have 2 sacks this year. Now I don’t know which stat line is worst but I can tell you, they’re both bad! Who wants it more?

Wildboys 44 O.N.S. 36

That’s all for this week. Thanks again for reading and don’t forget to check out the podcast if you haven’t already done so… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klBOSRwmDYQ! Ciao for now.
