The Truth: Puzzle Pieces | Division 1&2

With very few games left to play, I for one am looking forward to the match-ups to come. The next couple of weeks will carve a clear picture as to who belongs and who has been a pretender this whole time. Every game should be handled as a playoff game because for most of you, it is. Scores are going to be crucial. Keep in mind what the tiebreakers are. Nothing beats going into the playoffs on a winning streak, so keep it simple going into the playoffs as momentum is key. Finding your identity as a team should be at the top of your grocery list. Most of you already know what it is, and for those who don’t, you’re probably already looking ahead to the next season to start. In any case, I wish you all the best in what should be a great end of season.

Quick thoughts

-It’s looking more and more like the early favourites for awards are now pulling away from the pack.

-Don’t get me wrong; I’m not one to play for awards, and I certainly don’t think any team in the upper divisions signs up for anything other than a championship. But when the season is over and your team has failed, a little individual award to get your confidence back on track is cherished.

-Like a puzzle, pieces are starting to come together for some teams. For others, they’re still working on all the flat edge pieces. Same thing can be said for the standing; teams are stinging

-I can’t wait for the “Record Book” part of the FPF site to be uploaded. Guys are putting up insane stats and it would be cool to know whether or not they just broke (or came close to) breaking a previous record.

-This week is loaded with games that will ultimately shape the standing for the weeks to come.

-Ryan Kastner should take Nicola Centomo under his wing and show him how to quarterback in division one. Oh wait… he did. This past week’s game of the week hosted Rainmakers against Got-Skills. Being there live I can tell you two things: one, that Rainmakers offense is a well-oiled machine with a very confident QB, and two, Nicola Centomo’s accuracy still needs some fine tuning if he wants to join the elite QBs

-DK started the season 2-1 in their first three. Since then they are 0-3, taking their latest beating by the hand of D-Boys.

-Ryan Perry had 11 tackles this week… Some quarterbacks have games with less completions than that.

-At the end of the day, experience always prevails. Montreal’s Finest might have hit a bump in the road early in the season, but when you’ve taken the same road home for years and years, it’s hard to get lost.

-Monstars are definitely starting to find their way. If I were a team playing them, I wouldn’t underestimate their abilities to close games.

-I love how close the race is in both divisions. It’s proof that the ratings system is actually truly working.

-Take a good look at the standings and pay particular attention to the teams close to you in points. The head to head tie-break is going to shake up the division two standings when the dust settles.

-Carmine Pollice tried to help out the Wolverines in Tony Tabet’s absence. They end up losing to the worst team in division two. I guess Tony’s Armenian audibles are the key to success!

-Points against are going to be so important in division one. In a scenario where there is a two-way tie and the head to head record is 1-1, points against breaks up the tie.

Recaps:

Loonatics 27 – CBL 26

-Youssy Pierre was on a mission and decided to toss the team on his back. Pierre accounted for ¾ of his teams’ scores and also played stellar defense to lead his team to victory. This was a very important win for Loonatics having lost the first game against CBL. These two teams might find themselves in a tie down the line, and if so, points against will be the tie breaker. As of right now, a single point is the difference in this two-way tie which pushes CBL back to the last playoff spot.

 Montreal’s Finest 45- Flag Moi L’sac 24

-The boys are back in town! Early in the season these two teams faced off. The outcome of the first game came down to a single play, which saw FML failed to close up the game and lost. This time around, Finest kicked down the door, took no names, and filled up body bags. Kishon Thompson and Guillaume Ward combined for 175 yards and 6 touchdowns. I guess you can say Kevin Wyeth is back to game shape? For those of you who may say, “they beat FML, they’re 0-6”, ok. So lets put a pin in my thoughts and re-visit this next week after Finest plays D-Boys.

Wolverines 45- Damps 25/8 52

-It’s really hard to understand what is happening over in Damps’ changing room. One week they absolutely stink up the field, and the next they put up 52 against former 1st place team. Although I don’t see them keeping up this pace, it’s refreshing to see new talent getting comfortable in a very challenging division. Andrew Treffeisen did everything possible to clinch this win. Treffeisen had 39 rushing yards, threw for 127 yards and 6 touchdowns, and also added a pick six. Carmine Pollice filled in for Tony Tabet who was unable to make it to this game. Shane Paquette had his biggest game of the year in Tony’s absence. Paquette caught 9 balls for 77 yards and 3 touchdowns. With this loss, Wolverines slip down to third in Conference A standings.

Terror Squad 39- O.N.S. 18

-Last time I saw Kevin Wyeth’s stat line like this he lost to Roosters and Donkeys in the division A championship game. Terror Squad found a way to shut down Kevin’s number two receiver in Chris Pinsonneault. Needless to say, TS couldn’t afford to let another game get away; this was a crucial victory. Tam Vilaydeth played like a true leader. The most important stat in Tam’s game is the big zero in the interception column. Hopefully this will launch TS back to their old winning ways. TS had been winless in their last three games after starting the year 3-0. O.N.S has some very important divisional games coming up.

Chernobyl 30- Gladiateurs 38

-It blows my mind how Chernobyl Circus is able to lose to teams like Gladiateurs who show up with six players. I don’t mean to take anything away from the Glads, they’re a solid team. How in the world is a team stacked with division one talent losing week after week. Frank Lebeau threw 3 interceptions and still found a way to win. I believe both these teams will be in the playoffs when week 12 rolls around. Only thing is, one team will be going in full of confidence, and the other, not so much.

Vinni’s Stud squad:

QB: Kevin Wyeth (MTL): 17/22 for 245 yards and 7TDs. Feels like Kevin is the only one who finds himself in this slot. I guess we can hand him the trophy now.

QB: Marco Masciotra (CLK): 19/28 for 228 yards and 7TDs. I should copy and paste what I wrote just above for Kevin. Two of the best QBs this league has to offer.

WR: Kishon Thompson (MTL): 4 REC for 62 yards and 4TDs. Kish has had an up and down season but always comes through in the clutch.

WR: Jad Aridi (MON): 12 REC for 85 yards and 5 TDs. This is one of those games Jad will never forget. Stud status activated!

DB: Marco Masciotra (CLK): 2 interceptions and 1 tackle. Two-way player of the week!!

R: JD Chevalier (SWI): 4 sacks, 3 tackles. About time someone puts these stats up. JD is not known as a rusher but has the speed to create chaos in the backfield.

Nate takes me down once again. We now sit at 2 for me, and 4 for Nate. This week, Finest plays D-Boys and we know there is no love between these two teams. With that in mind, Nate will not be choosing anyone from their team, and to be fair I’ll drop a roster spot.

My picks and spread:

8/14 last week, which is a lot better than the past couple of weeks for me. It’s been nothing short of impossible to pick games this year and my record shows it…this gives me a total of 34/70 after six weeks.

Division One:

Montreal’s Finest VS D-Boys

Got-Skills VS CBL

DK VS Flag Moi L’Sac

Loonatics VS Rainmakers

Division Two:

Monstars VS Wolverines

Wildboys VS #NR

Gladiateur VS Untouchables

O.N.S. VS Solide

Clockwork VS Chernobyl Circus

Damps 25/8 VS Legends

CLR Forces VS Terror Squad

Served With Ice VS Raiders

Game of the week :

Rainmakers (3-2-1) VS Loonatics (3-3)

Last time these two teams met, the Loonatics took it 45-38. Loonatics are 3-1 in their last four. Rainmakers are on a two game winning streak, something they have rarely been able to sustain in the pass. This game will be the difference between playing against the 3rd seed or 4th seed in the playoffs. If Rainmakers drop the second game in the Head To Head, Loonatics will hold all advantage in any tie scenario.

Keys:

Kastner bros VS Zone Defense

Slant route in the redzone from Rainmakers wides VS Man defense

Paul Lapierre taking what the defense gives him

Y.Pierre, P.Tshilambo, Billy Jean VS M.Chitayat, B.Mikelberg, C-A.Sinotte

Ryan is not one to turn the ball over. He’s so confident in his offense that he would rather take a sack knowing he can make up for it on the next play, than throw a pick. I think Ryan will have one costly turnover that will make the difference against a really potent Loonatics team. Although I pick Ryan over Paul, I think the defense will make the difference here at the end of the day.

Loonatics 42 Rainmakers 41

That’s all for this week. Thanks again for reading and don’t forget to check out the podcast if you haven’t already done so… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klBOSRwmDYQ! Ciao for now.
