The Truth: Clash of the Titans in Division 2

Lights, camera, action! I hope everyone took the time to do their hair and put on their best shirts for picture day…just kidding. While your picture holds very little value in the outcome of your season, it could be used for psychological warfare. Since every player in division one and two check the FPF site over twenty times a week, seeing your mean mugging face may play a larger role than we think. We should never rule out the intimidation factor. Think about it, how many times have you looked up the team you’re playing against? Now think about your reaction when seeing their picture, exactly. Now imagine how anxious you would be if you were playing a team you did not know AND they didn’t have a team picture! Pictures never felt so important, did they? I could be wrong, but I think a teams’ confidence could be affected by preconceived ideas and emotions based solely on a picture. Nevertheless, all of that gets thrown right out of the window once the game has started and you realize what you’re really up against.

Quick thoughts

-Last week I dared Kevin Wyeth to not run triple slants: the dare was not accepted. I counted over 10 plays where they ran triple slants one-way or the other.

-This week I dare Frederic Dupuis to not display one of his now-infamous touchdown celebrations!

-Teams are keeping up with Montreal’s Finest.

-Kishon Thompson is taking clock management to another level in flag. The first time he asked the ref how much time was left, the ref responded “19 minutes”. Which means 3 minutes in the first half had gone by. Maybe he’s putting together a thesis on the time it takes to be successful.

-CBL has a decent looking offense. But the defense I saw on the field this weekend will not make it easy for Carmine Pollice to secure wins this year.

-FML are 0-2 after two weeks of play. 0-2 on key plays to win games against the top two teams in division one. Close but no cigar…

-CLR Forces looks really good on the field. The only flaw I found so far on this team is the misspelling of Guillaume Ward’s name on his jersey.

-(8 receptions for 150 yards and 4 touchdowns) Some division 1 receivers won’t even have that at the end season. Mr. Guillaume Ward of Montreal’s Finest dropped that on Flag moi L’sac’s defense last Sunday.

-Jordan McLaren is on pace for 35 receiving touchdowns with the Untouchables. Can some one slow this monster down?

-Marco Masciotra’s 132.4 QB rating after two games in division 2 is quite impressive.

Re-cap:

Finest 48 FML 38

Look at the flick of the wrist! After an intense, back and forth game where I watched Kevin Wyeth and Guillaume Ward put on an offensive clinic, FML found a way to stay in the game and even had the opportunity to gain advantage until the flick of the wrist. It was 42-38 for Finest. FML has the ball. All they have to do is drive the field, burn the remaining plays and walk away 1-1. On fourth and two, Alex Nadeau-Piuze managed to beat the rush. Piuze had the yards in sight needed to get the first, but the wires touched. He decided to randomly flick the ball forward. Needless to say, no one expected it. His own receiver Maxime Fournier was caught off guard. Ball lands on the ground. Piuze comes back to his senses and realizes he just did that. Finest capitalize on the next play with another touchdown and they walk away 2-0. That close.

D-Boys 12 DK 31

D-boys fell behind quickly in this game; after the D-Boys failed to connect on fourth down on their first offensive drive, DK took over. They scored quickly and often from there on out. DK’s defense was the best I’ve ever seen from them.  Alex Pilon at rush made it a nightmare to stand in the pocket for Marco Masciotra. Although D-Boys were missing a couple of key players, I’m not sure it would have made a difference on a day where everything seemed to go wrong for the defending champs. Hey at least DK made me look like a genius for picking them to win in the pre-season after a performance like this.

Damps 25/8 12 Served With Ice 24

-Damps had the opportunity to steal a win, since SWI found themselves once again without their starting QB. Unfortunately, like I said last week, the talented Damps are in desperate need of better Quarterback play in their own end. Andrew Treffeisen has thrown 6 interceptions so far and has a QB rating of 34.1. I don’t mean to dwell on you guys, but you have solid receivers, you just need to find a guy who can get them the ball consistently. JD Chevalier assumed the throwing responsibilities in Jordan Pennetta’s absence for SWI and defensively, were able to hold the Damps to zero points in the first half which was the difference maker in the end.

Clockwork 46 Gladiateurs 33

-Funny thing about this game is that the Glads held a two-point lead going into the half, and then came Marco Masciotra. Two picks on defence, and 34 offensive points in the second half for Clockwork was what launched them to their first win. A much needed win, as the future casts a lot of tough opponents. The same can be said about the Gladiateurs whose schedule may be the toughest in division 2. In a losing effort, Alex Lever caught another 3 TDs for the second week in a row. Glads fall to 1-1.

Solide 26 Terror Squad 31

Extra points my friends, extra points! Both teams score four touchdowns, but only one dominated in extra points. Terror Squad is starting to do damage against really good teams in division two. Samuel Lagloire-O’Connelle already has 5 sacks after only two games; he’s a luxury any team would be lucky to have.

Vinni’s Stud squad:

QB: Kevin Wyeth (MTL) 22/33 for 274 yards 7 TDs. I guess the Kevin is king of the hill until someone takes his name off my list!

QB/DB: Marco Masciotra (CLK) 18/23 for 283 yards and 6TDs. Defensively he also had 6TKL 2 INT and 1 PD. Impressive… my favorite part of that stat line is the 78.3% completion ratio… Nasty!

WR: Guillaume Ward (MTL) 8 Rec for 150 yards and 4 TD. I don’t know what Ward has been doing this off-season but it’s paying off!

WR: Jordan McLaren (UNT) 5Rec for 132 yards and 3 TD. Back to Back trifectas. Bring your drinks and snacks ladies cause Jordan is putting on a show in Div2.

DB: Olivier Bourdages (MTL) 7 TKL 1PD. This guy is just all over the field!

R: Quintyn Rice (DAMPS) 3 Sacks and a tackle is what you need to get on this list.

R: Samuel Lagloire-O’Connell (TS) 3 sacks. Most of you probably don’t know the name, but you will soon.

Ok, so last week Nate destroyed me. So, I decided to change the rules just a bit. I added one more WR and a Flex (receiver/snapper). But, we are no longer permitted to pick two players from the same team going forward. Due to some “beef tings”, Nate will not be picking a player from D-Boys this week. Nate will be forfeiting his SNAP for week 2.

My picks and spread:

Game of the Week:

Terror Squad VS Untouchables

So here goes the clash of early season titans. The team who ends up on the losing end of this game will most likely never be defeated again this season. On the other hand, the team who wins may likely go undefeated this year. This game will see two teams loaded with talented athletes. When the season began, I was happy to see Terror Squad drop back down to the division I think they belong in, but I don’t think the teams on their schedule feel the same way. Untouchables are in their second season together as a team with Justin Lavallee at QB. Last winter, they were a team I would rarely pick against, but this year they seem have what it takes to win it all. This will be an amazing game to say the least.

Key match-ups:

“The show” himself Jordan McLaren VS Terror Squad’s D

Tony Khoury’s chirps VS Terror Squad’s poise

Tam Villaydeth’s pocket presence VS Untouchable’s rush

One of the most important things for TS will be to force Untouchables to grind for their scores. Their offense loves going deep. Justin will hit the 10 to 20 yard range without a problem…if you give it to him. On the other hand, TS will grind you down whether you like it or not. If Untouchables get impatient, TS will make them pay for it.

Untouchables 32-Terror Squad 30

That’s all I have to say after a solid week of performances by most of you. Wish you all success in week three. If you haven’t heard or watched the podcast, you can find it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBOpUCvrOTA . This week Peeze Della Reeze introduced the grid of death. Find out what that is by clicking on that link 😉

Ciao for now
