The Sarwar Report (D1) – Week 10

To loosely quote the musical group “Spunge”, Hurricanes live to see another day. Additionally, they are involved in a scenario that heavily favors them. They definitely have to do their part by winning their match up, however, they face a 2-7 team, so it is safe to assume they’ll pull it off. Furthermore, they would need one of the EX-teams (Expos and Express) to lose and that is possible because Express faces Montreal’s Finest. So in Hurricaneville, there is plenty of hope. In the world of FPF, there is a level of excitement because there could be a possible first round date with Montreal’s Finest on the horizon. In a nutshell, there are three teams fighting for two playoff spots and that is absolutely amazing because two out of a total four post-season spots will be decided in the last week. For a detailed breakdown of playoff picture and scenarios, please this week’s episode of WEPL which is posted on our website.

Wise words by Moe Khan

Before this week’s WEPL episode, I was making a comment to Moe Khan regarding the Montreal’s Finest and Express game. I insinuated that it will be good game and Express might actually take it. However Mr. Khan stared at me for 3 seconds and said in disbelief “Are you serious?” So it appears Moe Khan is quite confident that his team will win. The question I have for the Express is “Are you guys ready to show Montreal’s Finest what you’re made of?” Perhaps no more words and we’ll let the actions do the talking on the field.

Keep on rolling!

As you might have heard on WEPL, Expos are the hottest team in Division 1, sans exceptions. They started the season at 0-4 and have gone 4-0-1 since. They have second ranked offense and are scoring at will. In their great undefeated run, they also defeated the Montreal’s Finest. It’s sad to say that despite their success, they still haven’t clinched a playoff spot however a win this weekend will put them in post-season, something I had predicted at the mid-season point. Although they have players missing from their roster on a weekly basis, they can rest assured that the real season begins this week, and for possibly another two weeks afterwards.

Three STARwars of the week

3. Michael Samman (Rainmakers) 18-25, 190 yards, 6 TDs; 1 sack.

2. Chad Byers (Expos) 21-27, 240 yards, 7 TDs; 1 sack.

1. Kevin Wyeth (Montreal’s Finest) 23-25, 193 yards, 6 TDs.

The Amazing Race

This is the last update because the winners will be announced next week. Good luck to all!

Quarterback – It appears Kevin Wyeth has this position locked. Will he reach 2000 yards?

Kevin Wyeth: 158-215 for 1904 yards with 51 TDs, 6 INTs, 3 Sacks and 128.2 QB rating.

Wide Receiver – SCC is ahead of the competition and there is no body even remotely close in the rearview mirror. The question is: Will SCC reach 30 TDs?

  • Simon Charbonneau-Campeau: 35 receptions, 609 yards, 25 TDs.

Defensive Player – Defensive player battle will heat up because Bruno Collette and Kishon Thompson face each other this weekend while Guillaume faces a struggling Hurricanes team.

  • Bruno Collette: 24 tackles, 4 INTs (1 for TD), 1 PD.
  • Kishon Thompson: 31 tackles, 1 INT, 7 PDs.
  • Guillaume Ward: 23 tackles, 2 INTs, 7 PDs.

The Jared Allen Award (In case of a tie, the tie-breaker will be interceptions, PDs and then tackles) As for the rusher position, Zecevic will be in tough because Kevin Wyeth has only allowed 3 sacks in 9 games. However it will be tough for Moe Khan to catch up as Patrick Chenard is definitely not an easy QB to sack.

  • Andrija Zecevic: 8 sacks
  • Moe Khan: 6 sacks

Two-Way Player – Even though both players had great seasons, Patrick Chenard has just stepped his game up to the next level which puts him ahead in the race. If he can win against Montreal’s Finest, it is safe to assume he wins it outright. Shane Williams will have a chance to boost his stats because he will face a relatively weak defense in week 11.

  • Shane Williams: 39 receptions, 394 yards, 10 TDs; 17 tackles, 2 INT (1 for TD), 2 PD.
  • Patrick Chenard: 120-188 for 1543 yards with 46 TDs, 10 INT, and 7 Sacks; 292 rushing yards and 3 TDs; 15 tackles, 4 INT and 3 PD.

The Heisman (in that order) – The biggest question is: Who will be the Heisman? Will he be from a team who is in the playoffs? What is the criteria? All this and more will be answered next week..

1. Kevin Wyeth

2. Ryan Kastner

3. Patrick Chenard

**As mentioned before, good luck to all players who are in the running and winners will be announced next week**

Next week is a bye week for all Division 1 teams therefore I will use the opportunity to announce the ALL-STARWAR SQUAD for the Division 1 Winter 2010 season. Furthermore I’ll provide a brief season recap, and finally a detailed analysis of the semi finals match ups. Good luck to the Expos, Express and Hurricanes this weekend. May the best teams win (and qualify)! That’s it for this week’s column. As usual if you have any comments/suggestions, email me at [email protected]. I leave you with the following quote:
