Sunny Skies Inbound as FPF Junior Rolls Into Week 3

While there might have been the occasional rain shower last week, this Saturday is looking like a beautiful day for football in Laval. Sunny skies and temperatures in the low 20s are optimal conditions for football. Each team should be at their best.

I also wanted to mention that FPF will be making its debut appearance on the big screen on July 15th at the Scotiabank theatre downtown. Game of the Week guy Lance Daniel has created a documentary about his team’s championship run which will be aired in theatres. You can help support Lance and the FPF community by buying tickets to the premier here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/noregard-the-greatest-recreational-sports-story-ever-told-tickets-154582990887

If you still need more convincing, you can find the documentary’s trailer on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Ip6gy3kAbiQ

That being said, we can now jump back into this week’s article. I will once again be using the audio segment format for this week. Be sure to stay tuned to FPF Junior Instagram (fpf.jr) because we will also be posting the audio segments there.

Week 2 Recaps

Buckeyes (26) vs APH 1 (34)

Chomedy White Blues (0) vs Chomedy Navy Blues (6)

Week 2 Game of the Week

Wolverines (34) vs Panthers (32)

The Panthers are an extremely talented team, but week two did not go exactly according to plan for them. After losing their first game against Rosemere by one score, they lost a nail biter against the Wolverines by just two points. Ultimately these two teams went score for score and the game was decided when the Panthers were unable to convert on a two-point conversion attempt. The Wolverines got the ball back after that failed convert and were able to rundown the clock.

While the Wolverines passed for less yards and touchdowns than their opponents, they were still able to come out with the victory in this one. That success was largely due to the rushing prowess of Wolverines quarterback. Zacharie Gadbois. He made up for any shortcomings in the passing game with five rushes for over 100 yards and two scores. If I have one main critique for the Wolverines passing game, it would be their overreliance on Fernando Abrego. He accounted for eight of the team’s 13 catches and 100 of their 150 passing yards. Essentially, their passing game revolved around him. The issue with this is it makes your offense predictable and easier to shut down. If the Wolverines want to keep on winning, they will need to start spreading the ball. Defensively, Fernando Abrego was also huge with eight tackles and five (yes FIVE!) defended passes. However, it was Cedrik Gundjian who stole the show with his crucial interception, to go along with his four tackles and one defended pass.

While the Wolverines might have struggled to spread the ball, the Panthers did an amazing job at getting all their receivers involved. They had four different receivers with four catches or more. Their passing game clearly benefitted from them spreading the ball. Quarterback Denis Moreau had a fantastic game and passed for 225 yards and four scores. On the defensive side of the ball, it was once again all Denis Moreau. He recorded his team’s only pick. Ultimately, I think that the Panthers have all the necessary pieces to be a great team. If they keep on playing like they did versus the Wolverines, they are bound to start winning lots of games very soon.

Week 3 Predictions

Musketeers (2-0) vs Rosemere (3-0)

Panthers (0-3) vs Tigers (0-4)

Chomedy Powder Blues (2-1) Chomedy Navy Blues (1-2)

APH 2 (3-1) vs Panthers (0-3)

We are still working out a few technical issues with our website. Specifically, in the stat section, weekly leaders are not appearing in all categories. While I usually love making a team of the week, it is not possible to construct one without the weekly leader stats. As soon as this section is up and running, I will be introducing a team of the week segment into the weekly articles.

Until then, feel free to let me know if there are any other segments you would like to see included in the article. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any suggestions or other thoughts about the weekly articles.
