Playoff Race is Heating Up in FPF Junior

FPF Junior might only be three weeks into the season, but most teams have already played more than half of their games and the playoff race is really starting to take shape.

In the Freshman 1 division, we have a two-horse race for first spot and that race could be all but over after this week. The 5-0 Cougars are currently in top spot, but the 3-0 FC Saint-Laurent are close on their heels. What makes this race even more interesting is that these two teams faceoff this week. With a win, the Cougars can clinch top spot while a victory for Saint-Laurent would draw the two teams level.

In the Freshman 2 division, top spot has been just about locked up by the dominant Huskies. However, the real race going on is the one for second place between the Chomedy Powder Blues and the Chomedy Navy Blues. Those two teams are facing off next week and I expect the winner of that game to finish as the number two seed in the division.

Finally in the Sophomore division, we have a four-way race for first place. APH 2, Rosemere and the Wolverines all have only one loss, and they are chasing the undefeated Musketeers for the division lead. Both APH2 and Rosemere will be facing off against the Musketeers before the season finishes. A loss in either of those two games could see the Musketeers tumble down the Sophomore standings.

Week 3 Game Recaps

Huskies (19) vs Chomedy Navy Blues (6)

APH 2 (20) vs Panthers (12)

Game of the Week

Chomedy Navy Blues (12) vs Chomedy Powder Blues (6)

The Chomedy Powder Blues had only conceded 12 points all season prior to this game. The Chomedy Navy Blues not only pulled off the upset and beat the Powder Blues, but they also scored 12 points in this game, which is as many as the Powder Blues had conceded all season. As much as I might not be a fan of the multiple quarterback system, it did work for Navy in this game.  Despite only completing two passes, Giandavide D’Amico managed to pass for 40 yards and a score. Navy’s other touchdown came courtesy of Valente. While Valente only passed for 17 yards, he averaged five yards per completion. It is nice to see a quarterback who understands the importance of the short passing game. In the long run, the short passing game is a much safer way to score points. On the defensive side of the ball, it was Samuel Khawam’s ball hawking prowess which kept the Navy Blues ahead in this game. He batted down two passes and was a constant threat in the secondary. Alexandre Duchesne did a great job neutralizing the Powder Blues’ dangerous run game. On top of his one sack, he limited the Powder Blues to only three rushes for 30 yards and no scores.

As for the Powder Blues, Peter Koukouris had the most success out of all of their quarterbacks. He passed for fifty yards and a score despite attempting less than ten passes. Had Koukouris been able to throw for the entire game, he might have been in the 100-yard range. No matter who was throwing, Nicholas Kyriakopoulos was the main receiving threat for the Powder Blues. The elusive young player was targeted four times and finished the match with two receptions for over 50 yards and a score. On defence, Kyriakopoulos led his team with two tackles, a sack, and an interception. Wow, what a game! While Kyriakopoulos might have been the headliner for the Powder Blues on defence, there were a lot of other playmakers. Ava Pacheco was a force to be reckoned with in the secondary with her two tackles and impressive two defended passes. Nikolas Dolgoter and Tovmas Ravany also each managed a defended pass. Had the Powder Blues been able to turn one of those defended passes into an interception, this game could have ended very differently.

Week 4 Predictions

Rosemere (4-1) vs Wolverines (3-1)

Tigers (0-6) vs Chomedy Royal Blues (0-3)

Buckeyes (0-4) vs APH 1 (1-4)

Cougars (5-0) vs FC Saint-Laurent (3-1)

I will also be posting all of the audio clips to our Instagram (fpf.jr) under the form of stories. In case you miss the stories, they will be saved as highlights on our Instagram so you can go back and watch them when you want.

I know I say this every week, but if you have any questions or feedback about the articles, I would love to hear back from you. Please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected]
