Week 9

Sakiz Keeps Solide Alive

The playoff picture is becoming clearer and yet I know that the playoffs will be full of surprises, upsets, heart break and epic excitement.  In conference A, BearSkins, Wild Boys, Predators all enter the week with perfect records. Each of these teams play an ultimately different style, yet, each of them are refining their skills and getting ready to bring their game to the second season. Les Buddays are fiery and passionate and they are well built from top to bottom. Division 3 veterans Past our Prime and BD Bandits have been good, if somewhat inconsistent.  Both teams have succeeded although they are fighting the high expectations that were set for them prior to the season.  The upstart Monstars look ready to do battle week in and week out. They are gritty and have learned some lessons this season.  They look to take what they`ve learned in order to achieve the division’s highest honor. Snatchers are still technically alive but they know that they have a tough road ahead.  However, if they do make the playoffs, other team will know that this is not a team to take lightly. Solide has had some injury troubles and perhaps their roster construction was not as well thought out as initially perceived.  However, I don`t believe that anyone, would want to face them in the playoffs.  For the Brotherhood, a season of promise has turned into a revolving door at quarterback and the loss of one of their stars. OTF has had their ups and downs but their cast is strong.  Once in the playoffs, OTF may be a low seed that hands a once unbeaten team their first loss.

Conference B is another sort of beast with a lot of unprecedented results.  Moose leads the way being true to their pregame chant (Moose On Top!). Unforeseen to most, this team has been like a chameleon this season adapting to each opponent and finding ways to win.  Sea Assassins have an equal record to Moose but stand at 4th in the standings due to having lost the head to head matchup.  They will try to regain a hold of the top spot but will need to do so without a couple of key pieces. MetaMayhem looks like a cast of maligned FPF outcasts but in that they have a lot of talent and the team once forgotten is making its mark and holding on to the second seed late in the season.  Behind them is the streaky and inconsistent Mongoose.  With enough steam behind them they can go on a magical run and make some noise in the post season. The experienced VPC has a couple of weapons that make them dangerous.  They do lack depth but quarterback Rob Robinson will find ways to use his roster to their greatest potential. Broccaison has had some tough luck, losing 3 in a row is nothing compared to losing Kristian Cerantola, yet, there is enough talent on this team that hope is not lost. Da Regiment is still alive and with Doug McKernan’s interesting style of quarterbacking, we know that they can always win regardless of division. For Prestige World Wide there is still hope, but continuously underperforming has many wondering if this team can be a mid/low-seed upset or merely a shadow of what they once were. Les Eudistes have also been disappointing.  They continue to underperform but if they have their full roster moving forward I can expect them to kick it into overdrive. Still C.R.A are still alive as they start to lean on their veteran leadership while a team of talented veterans (Los Luchadores) look to find someone to lean on as the twilight of this season descends upon them.

Despite some inaccuracies, (Sea Asassains should be ranked 4th instead of 2nd). Mat Domon has done a great job of breaking down the playoff race.  Take a look at his article here for more info:

Sakiz Solide in First Win With New Team

Anton Sakiz is, in my estimation one of the next up and coming stars in FPF.  I first saw him play, last winter, in division 5 in his first season.  I turned to the Eagle at Master Control and proclaimed, “I don’t care what division this is; that kid is good!”  1 perfect seasons and a championship later I seem to have been right.  In his second game with Solide he connected TDs with Paul Lapierre (2), Rob Allen (2), Ryan Aridi and Jeff Brown.  Solide may have a tough path to work their way into the playoffs but Sakiz looks like the perfect replacemet to give them every opportunity to do so.

Having lost this game 40-33 Prestige World Wide have started to skid as they have lost their last 4 games, allowed 96 points in their last 2 games and despite having a very winnable remaining schedule, they’re defense looks in bad shape and would probably struggle even if they did manage to make it into the playoffs. Alex Lever is starting to look more like himself as he completed 4 touchdown passes and ran one in from 10 yards away for a fifth score.  However, if they can’t prevent the other team from scoring, they’re season will be very short-lived.

Mayhem Beyond

In perhaps the most entertaining game of the week, VPC faced off against MetaMayhem.  Teams were exchanging blows early on as each attack resulted in a counter attack. Alex Holowach’s haymakers were met with Rob Robinson’s intelligent, well placed jabs.  The turnng point in the game appeared to be when MetaMayhem marched the ball down the field and were stopped in the endzone. John Lyristis had 9 catches but had a limited impact as Danny “Love” D’Amour did everything he could to shut him down.  As the game started to slip away much of VPC’s typical efficiency was challenged. They did not get yards afte the catch, they did not score on converts, these are integral to VPC’s success on most weeks however, little of that could be ofund on this day.

MetaMayhem have looked great in recent weeks and the team everyone rushed to write off is all I can write about this weekend.  They are officially on a role as with this 34-24 win marks 3 in a row. This game featured James “Mini-Gronk” Nowakoski taking the ball to the house on 3 of Holowach’s touchdown passes.  The most notable of said touchdowns was when MetaMayhem was up by 4 points with a little over 5 play remaining as Nowakoski caught a perfectly placed ball in the back of the endzone to dash VPC’s hopes. MetaMayhem looks to continue their roll, as VPC needs to keep their hopes of a post season alive with only 2 weeks remaining.

BD Bandits Steal One Against Brotherhood

Brotherhood have had some terrible luck in the past few weeks.  Quarterback Gianni Settino needed to back to the United States about half way through the season, his replacements Dimitri Sinodinos and Alexander Fox have struggled to find rhythm and Moy MacDonald broke his leg early in this one.  Half an hour after the dust settled from the injury, Alexander Fox proclaimed that what the Fox said was “Interception”.  The Fox must have said it 3 times as Brotherhood were intercepted by Steve Sanner once and Chris Eramian did the same on two occasions.  The one standout in this game was Jamie Harry who caught 8 balls for 97 yards and a touchdown.

BD Bandits are a team that is tough to judge.  On some weeks they play to their script.  They give quarterback Mark Belvedere the extra possessions he needs to win the game and they play as an extremely tough out.  On some weeks they just crumble.  Luckily, BD Bandits did more of the former as they got the win when it counted they play two teams in a similar situation (OTF ad Los Luchadores) in the next couple of weeks so they will need to be on their game to make a playoff push.

Rants Reflections and Ravings

  • Why is it that when you put in a set amount before you pump gas the machine slows the flow down while you fill your last dollar? Doesn’t it know how much gas you’ve purchased?
  • I believe the 1 game suspension for Sea Assassins may well have decided the playoff race in Conference B. Unless of course, Sea Assassins can win with someone else at the pivot position
  • Shoutout to both Moose and Broccasion who clapped for Kristian Cerantola as he was carried off the field after hurting his knee on the first drive. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to him.
  • Moy McDonald of Brotherhood broke his leg on Wednesday. Division 3, FPF media and staff wishes you a speedy recovery!
  • I wonder how serious the fallout will be after McDonald’s injury. How will the McGill ban affect division 3?
  • So I was one of those who believed winter was over. I guess I shouldn’t have gone out in sneakers on Saturday night.
  • It looks like division 3 will host the Game of the Week once more. Sea Assassins will take on the BearSkins.  While we know that Lazarra is out, there are rumors that Aleksander Papich will be out for the BearSkins.  This should be an interesting game nonetheless.
  • It looks like it will take a minimum of a 5-5 record to make the playoffs. That being said, stranger things have happened.

Hungover Visions of the World of Tomorrow

This race has been tight.  Our pics are getting more and more similar as the division’s natural selection has been telling us who is stronger and who is weaker.  Mat Domon and I are currently separated by 1 game with 2 weeks to go. This race has been tight and whil I appreciate everyone’s support, I would rather they shower my opponent with hate.  You can do so by tweeting him @MathieuDomonFPF.

Monday Morning Meltdown

We are closing in toward the end of the season.  Having started this article prior to the games I find myself in an awkward position of having to finish it while pretending that I do not know the results.  A task that would have been far easier if our media team hadn’t done such a great job live tweeting the results throughout the weekend. For those who haven’t played yet enjoy my recaps and prognostication.  For those who have, feel free to laugh at where I was totally off base.

For further analysis, tune in to the official FPF division 3 podcast Calling the Audible where GM Kolethras and I will discuss some flag football topics, the benefits 13 ways to steal artwork from a gallery, political intrigue and why everyone should love mustard. You can watch us live Thursday nights at 7:15 at www.theunclemikeshow.com or download the show via iTunes or at http://fpf.podomatic.com.   You can always tweet the show live by tweeting @EagleFPF or feel free to tweet GM Kolethras @GMKole44 and remind him that Wyoming is not a real place (seriously, have YOU ever met anyone from there?).
