Peeze’s Playbook (Div D) – Week 6

Weekend Recap

We are reaching a point in the season where I must finally confess.  I have not been entirely honest with you FPF nation and I feel horrible about it.  I said that I would be loyal to you.  Week in and week out you thought you knew what you could expect from me.  However, between July 4th and 21st I will be on vacation.

During those weeks, Justin Blanchard will fill in and write my articles while he will be replaced by the very talented, Mat Domon. The truth of the matter is as much as I truly love this league I would rather hit on the women from the far reaches of Spain, Italy, and Croatia.  I would say I’m sorry but instead I will say: see you later suckahs….

Akin to a divorcing couple who find themselves on a couples retreat at Disney Land, let’s enjoy the little bit of time we have left. This is what week 6 looked like to me.

Territory Neutralized

In a game that featured Angelo Garofolo and Kevin Gauthier (two of the premier running quarterbacks in the division), it was the defenses that stood tall.  Blue Mountain State came into this one as a bit of an underdog despite their unscathed record.  Hermes Zepeda was clearly the hero having sacked Garofolo 3 times and catching 2 touchdown passes on the offensive side of the ball.  Yet credit must go to the entire team for keeping Garofolo to only 18 yards on the ground.  Interestingly however, Nicholas Lafond came in to replace Kevin Gauthier and actually threw the two touchdown passes that would lead to the eventual victory.

Having now lost their first game of the season (the final score was 13-6 in favor of BMS for those degenerate gamblers who read my article) Hostile Territory must consider what to do when confronted with a team of similar defensive skill.

Busting Makes Me Feel Good

As anticipated the more experienced quarterback, Doug McKernan shined in this matchup.  He threw his season high, 7 touchdows in this game and the Shamrocks smashed the Ghosts by a final score of 46-19.  Devin Daoust caught 8 balls for 100 yards as well as two touchdowns as he proved to be the offensive leader in this matchup.

For the Ghosts, it has been a rough go around.  Even now that they seem to have their quarterback issue resolved they seem to have their issues.  Francois Martin has struggled to adjust to the field dimensions in FPF and has consequently made many mistakes.  Moreover, star receiver Darnell Lovelace has only played in a couple of games this season and these types of roster inconsistencies typically don’t lead to much success.  Gab Wiseman has done all that he can as he is clearly playing his heart out.  His 77 yards on 7 catches was an admirable effort in a losing cause.

Pardon Me

Pardon My Swag has improved from week to week and Kevin Krupa and Karl Lavallée have become household names.  In this game Krupa hit Lavallée 8 times with 4 of them resulting in touchdowns. Coming into this game, Krupa had been perhaps the most underrated quarterback in the division.  However, given another solid performance it is safe to say that Krupa is a very good QB and his stock is on the rise.  After a 26-18 victory PMS have now won back-to-back games and their record stands at 2-4. The rest of their schedule shows some turbulent waters ahead; this is the right time to be firing on all cylinders.

Lined up across the field was a struggling but improving squad in the Vikings.  Rick Cummins had a solid outing as he passed for 171 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.  Moreover, the Vikings defence came up big in the first half and they kept their team in the game as the score was only 6-0.  Unfortunately the Vikings offense got hot at the same moment that PMS decided to start putting up points.

X-Men Prove to be X-Pert Dogcatchers Release the Hounds!

Despite the turmoil within the Underdogs team, it has not diminished their efforts on the field.  In a game that came down to offensive efficiency Chris Olson bested Guatama Swaminadham.   It has become a cliché in this league but it is true as ever; if you don’t convert after your touchdowns you will lose the game.  The Underdogs actually won both halves of the game despite only winning by three points.  So, despite the fact that both teams scored three times, Underdogs came out ahead by a final score of 21-18.  Hopefully this win will help weather the storm.

The X-Men have now dropped two straight games and they will need to put together better efforts than what we’ve seen over the past two weeks as they will no longer be able to stand on their stellar early season performance.  It was great to see Suhael Brohi step it up in this game as he led the team with 5 catches, 49 yards and a touchdown.

.

The League of Not-Quite-Legends

One glance at the league and you can tell that Terry Tam has been the benefactor of some great fortune.  He still leads despite never having “won a week” of fantasy.  Yours truly is trailing by a miniscule 88.8 points and I know that my boys will step it up as we near the end of the season.  Somehow Justin Blanchard scored just shy of a kazillion points this week and earned his right to rant for 60 seconds on the Division D “Calling the Audible”.  In any case here is where we stand, you will notice little improvement from Simon Dagenais.

Predictions

The unthinkable has occurred due to Playground forfeiting a game (more on this in an upcoming article), Justin has now overtaken me in the predictions.  His 9-5 record this week surpassed my 7-7 and now has taken a slim and surely momentary lead.  Justin’s record stands at 55-29 while my record is currently 53-31.  Here are my picks for week 6:

Big Blue Wrecking Crew vs. X-Men

Centurions vs. Bearskins

Black Ice vs. Underdogs

Speed Demons vs. Lockdown

Mongoose vs. Project Mayhem

Les Affreux vs. Pardon My Swag

Tyrants vs. Black Mambas

Gotham Knights vs. Longhorns

Warriors vs. Blue Mountain State

Shamrocks vs. Playground

Ghosts vs. Wheel of Fish

Le Zoo vs. Jaggerbomb

Limetime vs. Vikings

Park-X Streets vs. Ballz Deep

The Tuesday Throw Down

Many habe sent their Christmas lists early and I’d like to remind everyone that while I often do sport a beard (especially in during periods of extended vacation) I am not actually Santa Claus.  However, please feel free to send me questions thoughts and other assortments at [email protected] or reach me on Twitter @PeezeFPF.  I guess if you send me a Christmas list I can forward it to Kris Kringle.  I didn’t want to name drop but yeah…we’re boys. For those interested in a conversation with an similarly, distracted media member feel free to tweet Terry @TerryTamFPF.

This week’s Division D edition of Calling the Audible was so fun to be a part of. For the first time ever, I call in and cohost the show via skype as I was amidst a St.Jean Baptiste celebration at the time of the recording.  However, I remained undeterred and made sure to make myself available to our loyal listners.   Limetime captain Brad Demers explains why his team lost to Checkmate, and Justin Blnachard filled in for an incapacitated Mat Domon. Check us out at http://podomatic.fpf.com or by subscribing on iTunes.  See you on the fields, till then, thank you for letting me be myself.
