Peeze’s Playbook (Div 5) – Week 10ish

It is finally spring and as I sit here eating my cabbage soup I feel a sense of loss that the soup and sweater weather will be leaving us.  However, I quickly remember the horrifically cold days of winter and begin to look to the future with a proverbial loving embrace.

While sweaters are comfortable and soup does warm the soul, nothing can compete with all that the spring has to offer.  For those lucky/good enough to make the playoffs, it is the most exciting part of the season. For those who have not made it, we begin to look toward the spring season and build their teams for the spring season. Also, we get closer to beach weather where more revealing attire is always pleasing to the eye.

Green Lantern Corps Cross Their Streams

In order to have a chance to make the playoffs Green Lantern Corps needed a win to make the playoffs. Jerson Previllon and Co. Came out a little stale but did come back to give themselves a chance to win the game. Mendy Cardichon was his typical monstrous self.  After hauling in two touchdowns he can officially say that he caught a quarter century’s worth of scores this season.  Previllon did his best impression of Peter Venkman as he pulled all the stops to try and beat the ghosts. He threw for three touchdowns and ran in another one.  Despite their best efforts however, Green Lantern Corps were not able to crawl back into the game.

For the Ghosts this was business as usual.  With this 33-32 win against the Green Lantern Corps they won their last 5 games of the season. Alexis Gaumont has been very effective this season and despite throwing more interceptions in the second half of the season it feels like the ghosts offense has improved as he’s opened up the game. Gab Wiseman caught 8 passes in this game to bring his season total to 70.  His amazing season has propelled the Ghosts into the playoffs and they look ready to make a charge.

Limetime Proves that they Are the Good Stuff

Limetime came out strong in this game. David Daoust played his best game at quarterback as he recorded a QBR of 121.2. Brad Demers had a huge game and largely benefitted from David’s solid game. As he caught 4 passes and scored once. The Key here was that Limetime managed to shut down Ian Einheiber’s passing attack. The Black Ice QB was only able to complete 5 passes out 16 attempts.  Dilan and David Daoust intercepted two passes and Mike Zenone intercepted another as their defensive dominance allowed Limetime to squeeze by with a 19-13 victory.

I have said that in order for Black Ice to be successful they need to get the ball to Nyle Anderson as often as possible.  For reasons that I can not begin to understand, Anderson did not record a catch a single ball for the first time this season. The one bright spot for Black Ice in this past game was Justin Occhionero’s presence on defense.  He flew all over the field and recorded 9 tackles in this game. His efforts notwithstanding, Black Ice had a sub par season and they are now officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Peeze’s Spotlight

Loose Cannons vs. Shamrocks

Rather than writing up another breakdown of last week’s games I decided to talk about a game that will be taking place on Tuesday night that will decide the fate for one of two teams.  If the Loose Cannons win this game then they are set for a rematch against the Shamrocks in the first round of the playoffs.  If the Shamrocks win this game then the Sphinx would get into the playoffs via the 8 spot. If however the game ends in a tie then Loose Cannons may still make the playoffs depending how many points they allow in this game.  Or of course I’m entirely wrong in which case, skip over this paragraph and have a glass of Kool-Aid.

In order to win this game the Shamrocks need to do what they do every week.  They need a big outing on both sides of the ball from Jourdain Alexis and specifically on the offenseive side of the ball from Brandon Taylor and Derek McArthur.  Kernan McDoug needs to spread the ball and find the holes against the aggressive Loose Cannons offense.  What the Shamrocks do well is play with lead.  They are great when they can put their foot on their throat early and crush their opponent.

For the Loose Cannons, Helmsley has to play intelligently and avoid turning the ball over. This is also a chance for Cam Tonner to make his case that he should be considered as one of the top players defensive players in the division.  If he can get the Loose Cannons a couple of extra possessions then we can expect theLoose Cannons to have a chance at the upset.  Another thing to consider is whether or not the shamrocks have anyone who can deal with JR Beausoliel.  He is an incredible receiver and while Alexis has proven his worth as a defender you can avoid going his way by making the appropriate adjustments on offense.

Prediction: Shamrocks by 9 points

Reflections, Rants and Ravings

  • Does anyone, in fact, not love Lucy?
  • The Sphinx may get into the playoffs despite having lost their last two games.
  • Technically, the Game Changers are still undefeated.  This won’t matter of course if they loose this weekend.
  • Sergio ‘Big Blue’ Sicoli thought I was 26 year’s old this week.  Oh if he was just slightly more attractive, and a woman…
  • Play a drinking game this weekend: Watch the movie Her and have a drink every time it looks like the director is trying to hard to use techniques he learned in film school. You won’t make it past the first act!
  • 5 forfeits in division 5 this week alone.  Here is the giant call-out: Tune Squad, Expendables, Blue Balls of Destiny, Cheeseburger Eddy (although they get a slight pass because they notified their opponent), Ballz Deep, you can now be ashamed of yourselves.  Show some respect to your opponent, the league and yourselves as men.
  • The Cougars are trying to avoid falling into the same trap as last winter.  They started strong, they struggled at the end of the season, now they have to make sure they don’t exit early like last season.
