Killa Bees Win, Teams Prove Me Wrong, Power Rankings, and Picks

This is it, Week 12, the final week of the regular season. Do-or-die time for some, chance to play spoiler, and one last opportunity to climb the standings for others.

Before we go any further, let me say congrats to the Killa Bees, on finally getting their first win of the season, as they blew out Got Skills (45-26) last Saturday in Brossard.

In last week’s article, I talked about the importance of Quarterback Patrick Chénard cutting down on turnovers like he did the week before versus Run It Once. On Saturday, the FPF Hall of Famer not only did that, but he also threw a season-high seven touchdown passes in the win.

The team got a solid outing from Receiver Pierre-Olivier Grenier, who led all players with five catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow pass-catcher Francois Rocheleau also had a big game as he contributed two TDs as well.

Offensively, besides recording a season-high in points and avoiding multiple turnovers, the key to the win for the Killa Bees, was that they were able to respond every time Got Skills scored a touchdown. On the other side of the ball, the Killa Bees stopped their opponents from doing the same, as they forced an interception, a turnover on downs, and even stopped an onside pass attempt late in the second half. Defensive Back Guillaume Racine-Tessier stood out the most for his team in the win as he had a game-high five tackles and four pass bat downs.

In two of my first three years in FPF, my team went (0-18-2), so I know how tough it is to end a season without a win. It’s embarrassing, and never something a player wants to experience. The Killa Bees battled hard especially the last few weeks but found themselves falling just short at the final whistle. After 11 weeks and nine games, they finally got a well-deserved win. Well done.

Last week’s article might have ruffled a few feathers, but it appears that it had the desired effect, as multiple teams had statement victories last week.

Terror Squad, Braves 2.0, Party Crashers Blue, Allstars, Flag Moi L’Sac, and of course he Killa Bees, all had huge wins this past week. Two teams in particular, Terror Squad and Party Crashers Blue proved me wrong when I placed them in the We’re Not Sure Yet, and Pretenders categories. I was wrong.

Power Rankings

Division 1

Allstars – They are coming off back-to-back blowout wins over Double Straddle and KGP+, and now appear to have FPF Hall-of-Famer Theo Ojeaha back in the lineup after a two-game absence. The Allstars wrap up the regular season tomorrow against the sixth place Party Crashers in Lachine. Even though the road is tougher without the Semerjian brothers, baring a huge upset, the only thing that could stand in the way of a championship run appears to be an injury or perhaps another suspension.

Kangaroos – They come into the final night of the regular season riding a three-game winning streak and have a chance to make it four as they take on Flag Moi L’Sac. The Kangaroos are looking for revenge after losing to FML (39-30) in Week 7. A win for the Kangaroos would lock up second place in the division.

Braves – Well that was easy. The Braves earned a (60-0) forfeit win over the Bulldogz who due to several injuries, elected not to play in what was the Braves’ regular season finale. Now, this veteran squad plays the waiting game.

Flag Moi L’Sac – They snapped a two-game slide with a dominant win over the Party Crashers last Sunday at Stade Hebert. Up next is a huge showdown tomorrow versus the Kangaroos. Unfortunately, even if Flag Moi L’Sac pulls off the upset, they won’t surpass the Braves for third in the division, as they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

KGP+ – They have a big game against Double Straddle tomorrow in Lachine, as they try to pull off the regular season sweep, after beating them (34-27) in Week 7. A victory would give them three in their last five games and help erase the sting of the ugly beatdown they suffered at the hands of the Allstars last week.

Double Straddle – One win in their last four games is not how you want to head into the playoffs. Double Straddle has a chance to fix that as they take on KGP+, who accounted for one of those recent losses. Going into the post-season with positive momentum is always a good idea. Let’s find out if this team can generate some.

Party Crashers – They haven’t won a game since Week 5 and have lost four in a row since. Opportunity knocks, as the Party Crashers have back-to-back games against the Bulldogz and Allstars tomorrow night in Lachine. A sweep would be great, but realistically earning a split, while working out some kinks before the real season begins should be the focus.

Bulldogz – They forfeited last week due to injury. One of their two wins this year came against the Party Crashers who they take on tomorrow night. Can thy pull off the sweep tomorrow in Lachine? The Bulldogz will have to show up for us to find out.

Division 2

Vengeance – Their last game was 20 days ago, and it was a 1-point victory over KGP. That win was with both Rory and Sean Semerjian in the lineup. They are gone for the rest of the season, with Vengeance taking on both Run It Once tonight, and Urgence Medic tomorrow to close out the campaign.

Urgence Medic – As stated above, they finish the regular season with a showdown with the top team in the division. A win would give them three in a row, and first place in Div. B. This is a must-watch game.

Run It Once – They have a chance to finish first, if they can beat Vengeance tonight, and then have Vengeance knock off Urgence Medic tomorrow night. A loss wouldn’t drop them out of third place, as they have a Week 7 win over Blessed, but they will need the Braves 2.0 to beat Blessed in their matchup tomorrow in Lachine.

Terror Squad – They sit behind Blessed in the standings, but their victory over them last week can’t be ignored. The win gives them four in their last five games and knocks a bit of the sting off from upset losses to both Touch Foot 450 and Got Skills. The upset alert isn’t over however, as Terror Squad takes on a Killa Bees squad coming off their first win of the year, tonight in Brossard.

Blessed – Their spot on the contender’s list might have been a bit premature with their loss to Terror Squad.  A win over the Braves 2.0 tomorrow night is a statement game that will speak volumes depending on the outcome.

Braves 2.0 – They are (2-2) in their last four games but are coming off a big (56-48) win over the Moretti Crime Family. Still a threat to win it all, a victory over Blessed tomorrow night would ensure they hit the playoffs riding a wave of momentum.

Moretti Crime Family – They have lost two straight, and it would be three if Vengeance didn’t go over the cap in their Week 8 contest. Monday night at Stade Hebert represents a chance for the Moretti Crime Family to right the ship as they take on Got Skills. Can the MCF get it done?

Party Crashers Blue – They followed up big wins over the Braves 2.0, and Urgence Medic, with a (39-38) victory against Got Skills. The Party Crashers Blue have a chance to make it four in a row if they can get past Touch Foot 450 tomorrow at Stade Hebert.

Touch Foot 450 – Their Week 1 win over Got Skills, gives them this spot in the power rankings. The team’s two-game winning streak was snapped with an ugly loss to KGP. They have last chance to climb the standings and get back to their winning ways as they take on Party Crashers Blue tomorrow at Stade Hebert. Can they make it happen?

Got Skills – Two back-to-back losses, including one to the previously winless Killa Bees, killed all the momentum they generated from a win over the Braves 2.0 and one-possession loss to Blessed in Week 8 and 10 respectively. Getting back on track won’t be easy as they take on the Moretti Crime Family Monday night.

KGP – They wrapped up their regular season with a win over Touch Foot 450, but it wasn’t enough to get them into the playoffs. It was a surprising end to a disappointing season for this veteran squad.

Killa Bees – They got their first win last week and have a chance to play spoiler by preventing Terror Squad from climbing the standings. Can the Killa Bees continue to let the good times roll?
