It’s Crunch Time

The time for talk is over and I am sure that it is this time of year that brings out the best of each and every individual. It was a great season in the co-ed division and it’s time you put everything that went on in the season aside and plays your heart out. Before getting into the match ups in this division there is a little more I would like to talk about.

Award Winners

This season’s Quarterback of the year award went to captain Frank Deslauriers of Party Mix. Now Frank led Party Mix to an almost perfect season but at 7-1 with a point differential of +94 it’s hard to argue that leading an offense to that kind of point total did not take stellar play from the main offensive player. He was able to spread the ball to everyone on his squad and he was able to do whatever it takes in order to provide nothing but the best for his team to work with.

This season’s Wide Receiver of the year award went to Michael Scott’s Tots own Zackary Alberts-Gill who basically took whatever his Quarterback would give him and turn it into points. The reason I say that is because with his 14 touchdown receptions he single handedly had 60% of his team’s offensive touchdown passes. That’s not because he was the only target it’s simply because whenever he was found it was nice and cozy in the end zone for the score.

This season’s Defensive Player of the year went to another member of the top seeded Party Mix squad Benjamin Parisien. Another one of the reason’s Party Mix topped the division is due to the incredible effort on the defensive side. Led by Ben who made it his mission to make Frank’s stellar offense be more than enough to get the best out of the team. Ben was a work horse on defense if the ball was in his area he made sure it would not become an issue. Whether it was coming down with an interception, batting the ball down in order to prevent a catch, or simply just getting ahead of the receiver and making sure he doesn’t get far; Ben was there.

The last award given in this division is the two-way player award and this is by far one of the toughest awards to achieve. This season Yin & Yang’s Andrew Carruthers earned this award that goes to one of the hardest working players on the field. He’s an interesting player and he just does whatever it takes for the job to get easier for the teammates around him. He is more of an offensive threat but when push comes to shove and an opposing team needs their top receiver stopped Andrew is the guy that does it.

Playoff Matchups

Now that the season is over the teams are set and so are the matchups. This week we have two interesting matchups and I will be there personally and it is going to be an epic playoff season for this division.

Yin & Yang vs. Hot-Dawgz

This match seems to be a foregone conclusion but I believe that both these teams have grown and it will simply come down to which team has the better mindset. In the case of Yin & Yang they have been on fire and they seem to have found what it takes offensively to get the job done. On paper they definitely have the better team but this matchup will not be played on paper it will be played on the gridiron and attitude will definitely be the key to coming out on top. If Yin & Yang can find that offensive rhythm that they have had the entire season after week 1 they will indeed be the favorite to win in this contest. They have a strong defense that if they have the lead will be able to keep it and if they do whatever they want to do and it works then it’ll be a real struggle for Hot-Dawgz in this matchup.

Speaking of Hot-Dawgz towards the end of the season they were able to go out there have some fun and put points up on the board. Unfortunately it did not lead to victories and they are the bottom seed. They just need to use that as the chip on their shoulder and prove the doubters wrong. They have the emotion but they need to turn that emotion into big plays and they will be fine. Unfortunately they get rattled soon and it just comes with their competitive spirit. Once they are rattled it is over for them and they try to make plays that are simply not there. They just need to find a way to take a breath and establish the problem so they can get back out there and fix it. The hand is stacked against them but that does not mean that they can use their mind set to make the plays to ensure they move on in the playoffs.

In their season matchup Yin & Yang were the dominant team and they had the answers to everything that was thrown at them. In my opinion I do not see this matchup being any different. The wave of momentum they are riding is simply going to be too much for the Hot-Dawgz to answer. That will lead them to moving on and playing against a tough second seeded 3rd down for what in the Semi-Finals.

TC vs. Michael Scott’s Tots

This is in my opinion a more interesting matchup because of the way it ended in their season matchup. TC had been red hot offensively in recent weeks and it seems as if they are going to continue to depend on that very same offense in this quarter final matchup. If one thing is clear it is that TC is trying to prove to everybody out there that women are truly remarkable athletes. From what I have seen in them this season I am indeed a fan of what they are trying to prove. That does not mean that teams will go lightly on them it just means that they are proving that they can compete with the best of what this division has to offer. They have a large chip on their shoulder and I believe that since they have been a finals team already they would like to get back to it but it’s not going to be easy against Michael Scott’s Tots that seem to know what it takes to beat them.

Speaking of Michael Scott’s Tots they came off a big victory in the final week of the season and it is basically due to the fact that they were able to get their game plan in check. They came into the matchup with the mentality that they did not want to be at the bottom of the table. Having them at the bottom of my rankings gave them that extra bit of motivation to prove me wrong considering I was score keeping their game. I kind of felt as if they were like if you put me at the bottom I will make sure you eat your words. They did exactly that and it helped them get that victory that they wanted in order to end the season on a high note. They showed up just in time for playoff season and I am truly intrigued about this matchup because I would like to know if they are willing to bring it again. If they repeat their performance in the final matchup and stick to what works they will indeed be a team that is tough to beat.

Choosing a winner in this game is definitely a challenge, considering that I have seen both these teams at their worst and at their best. Mentality is going to be a huge decider in this matchup. In my opinion TC is going to take the fact that they lost in the season meeting and use that as fuel to stick it to Michael Scott’s Tots in saying you beat us in the season but when it mattered most we came away victorious. No matter who comes away with the victory I am sure it will be a very entertaining matchup and I am excited to be there in person.

The other two teams that are just sitting back and waiting for their matchup are Party Mix and 3rd down for what. Deservedly so I might add because these two teams came into every game this season with an edge. Their offense was so strong they can make big plays out of nothing and their defense was able to maintain as much offense as they needed to when the time came. That being said a bye week is not always the best case scenario because then you can face a team that is so pumped from a huge victory that the momentum is all there’s. That is when the veteran experience kicks in and these two teams are indeed the most veteran when it comes to this division.

All I am going to say is this is when you must put your money where your mouth is and come out on top or else you’re done. Sometimes being in this exact situation brings out the best in players and they begin to do things that were nowhere to be found in the season. Honestly, it is simple for me to write about things but when you are out there on the field anything is possible. I am so excited for this playoff season and I have a feeling it will truly be in the spotlight as one of the more even playoffs in all of FlagPlus Football. So good luck to all the teams out there and I hope nothing but the best for all of you.

That’s all for me this week, I am expecting nothing less than intriguing football this week in the co-ed division.
