Inside the Redzone (Div E) – Week 3

As promised, here is the weekend edition of Inside The Redzone, just in time for Sunday’s action. Are you excited yet shocked? It gets better. I am officially active on Twitter (@RehanFPF) which means you’ll be getting ever more of my thoughts and comments at random moments on our website’s homepage. I figured you couldn’t get enough of me through my columns so I decided to give some more!

So far in week 3, we only had two games so I’ll break those down but don’t forget that the remaining three matchups are on Sunday starting at 6pm EST.

Headlines

And the nightmares continue!

Fools Of the Country won a close contest against Tomahawk Nightmare with the final score being 32-24. Etienne Guilmain (FOTC) had another textbook performance. He was 15 of 22 for 130 yards and 3 TDs, ran for 72 yards and 2 TDs and led his defense with 6 tackles. I also give a lot of credit to FOTC and their defense for making key stops. Defensive veteran and superstar Alexandre Girard had 2 INTs for his team. Furthermore, for a second straight week Guilmain spread the ball well with five receivers having at least two receptions. FOTC is proving to everyone that they belong on top of the Div E power rankings.

As for the Tomahawk Nightmare, there was some good news. Their pivot Jean-Francois Marquis threw 2 less INTs than the previous week when he had 4 turnovers; they also reduced the amount of points by which they lost from 26 points in week 2 to 8 this week. In their defense, it could be said that their last two losses have come against teams who have yet to lose. However I am sure they don’t really care about those kinds of numbers or justifications.

Statistically, they didn’t have a horrible game however just a few mistakes was enough to lose this contest. A positive spin is that despite turning the ball over twice, they managed to lose by only one score. It is possible that after first week’s win against Show Me Your TDs, they got a little complacent however they can use these two losses as a wakeup call.

Eskimo Brothers win in complete domination

Eskimo Brothers are getting better every week. Mitchell Muir had another great week as he went 17-23 for 281 yards and 7 TDs. Offensively, five receivers caught at least 3 passes and four of those receivers had at least one TD. Remember all the praise I gave Shawn Steen last week? Well he apparently fed off it because he repeated last week’s performance of 75 receiving yards and double his TD count to two. He also had a defensive INT and ran it in for a score. Is there something he can’t do? I would like to say throw but I am afraid of what will happen if I do!

Now even though he deserves getting praised, he will be first to tell you (I hope anyway) that the Eskimo Brothers are not Mitchell Muir and Shawn Steen. There are other worthy candidates. I’ll start with Corey Oliver who had 3 catches for 108 yards and 3 TDs. There is also Matthew Santangelo who had 2 defensive INTs. The entire squad is firing on all cylinders and contributing towards their 3-0 start.

It was a disappointing outing for Show Me Your TDs especially after they earned their first win last week. It seemed like they were going to start turning some heads but instead they were turning their own heads towards their endzone while the Eskimo Brothers were putting on a clinic. Mike Adonna threw 3 INTS which is more than he has thrown in his first two games combined. The entire team took a step backwards because they had scored at least 27 points per game in their first two contests however only managed 12 points against Eskimo Brothers.

So what do Show Me Your TDs need to do? They need to, nay, MUST work on their defense because it’s not working at all. In their two losses this season, they have allowed a total of 93 points. One trick that I’ve always found helpful for improvement is to observe the top ranked teams (in any division) because we can learn a lot from seeing those who perform at the top level consistently. This is not to say that Show Me Your TDs are lacking talent or skills because that nothing is further from the truth. Instead, they need to find a way to put it all together.  I see a lot of talent and it just needs to be better managed and executed.

*STARS OF THE WEEK will be in weekday edition after the remaining games have been played.

Predictions

Since I am a humble and graceful host I will admit that my adversary, with whom I am tied at 2-0, not only predicted that FOTC will beat Tomahawk Nightmare but he also said it would be by a margin of 9 points. Now in the real world he would lose in any situation that involves guessing the score because the actual difference was 8 points, I will nonetheless give him credit for being very close.

Here are our predictions for Sunday’s match ups and I’ve just added a comment for each team’s success:

Peeze’s Predictions

Los Banditos vs. N W O

Dat’s Big vs. Golden Girls

Rehan’s Predictions

Los Banditos vs. N W O

-Alex Guertin will need to run a controlled offense and make use of all his opportunities

-N W O will need a big game from Andrea Riccio

Dat’s Big vs. Golden Girls

-Moe Khan needs a bounce back game and get all receivers involved

-J FLO will need to stay mistake free because he’s facing a veteran defense

Maccabi vs. BBQ Time Travellers

-Mike Bagnato must go all out to get in the game early and be the offensive leader

-Maccabi needs to improve on mistakes and simplify game plan, one drive at a time

Starting next week, aside from just picking the winners, we’ll do a breakdown of one game per week that we deem to be the best match up of the week. Now it’s obvious that the Eskimo Brothers vs. Golden Girls already has all the makings of a great battle in week 4 so look for an in depth analysis from both Peeze and I in the next edition of my column.

So that’s it for the weekend edition of Inside The Redzone. As I had promised that you’ll have something to read this weekend, I hope you will enjoy my column.
