Inside the Redzone (D4) – Week 3

Welcome everyone to Inside the Redzone. Last week was a great one and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it. The new teams are making some noise in division 4, hats off to them and then you have the good teams who are maintaining their status and then there are your bottom cellar teams. What is interesting though is division 4 football has become very competitive in the sense that no longer are games filled with dropped balls or bad throws (well a few of them still are). Instead, games are close and intense and rivalries are building each week. Also I love the emails I am getting from you guys, keep them coming. I urge everyone to send me emails regarding anything you want me to know about your team or if you choose to make any bold statements directed towards the rest of division 4.

Week 3 Report

From this point forth, I will refer to the internal divisions as East side and West side. This doesn’t mean that the bloods of the East should attack the crips of the West; it is only done for classification purposes.

Conference A

Speaking of emails, a certain member of the Bulldogs sent me one stating I shouldn’t have guaranteed that they would lose to VPC and that he guaranteed a Bulldog win. Well as most of you might expect the Bulldogs dropped down to 3-0, losing pretty bad (32-6) to VPC, who are now 3-0. This proves two things, one, I am usually right when I make assessments about teams which is the main reason why I am writing the articles and two, the Bulldogs need to go back to the drawing board. However I still give them props that they are trying to turn some heads however I have learned, being in this league for some time now, that the best way to get noticed is by winning some games. Also in the West division, the Eagles won yet again and are doing it with their defense. They defeated the Trapstars by a score of 20-14. Keaven Larose had a great game with 2 interceptions, their rusher F. Imbeault had 5 sacks and their defense had a combined total 8 PDs. Eagles are now 3-0 and they feel very confident in their team. They are tied with VPC in the West side. Trapstars are 2-1 however they can make a huge statement if they are able to beat VPC in week 4.

In the East side, Cowboys won yet again and now are 3-0. J. Moodie had a great game throwing for 160 yards and 3 TDs while rushing for 61 yards and a TD. Their defense led by V. Mancini had 2 interceptions which proved to be the difference. This Cowboys team is getting it done right now any way they can and what I love about them is their chemistry. The other exciting game in this conference was Trojan Knights against the Gators which resulted in tie, 38-38. Nicky McGuire of the Knights had 8 catches, 145 yards and 4 TDs however the story of the game was Gators defense stepping up and picking off Norman Weeks twice. One of those interceptions was by QB Kevin Marlowe who stepped up his game and had an All-Star like performance by throwing for 261 yards and 6 TDs and no interceptions. Nicky McGuire was disappointed in his team’s defense however a great job done by the Gators, they gave the Knights all they could handle. Both teams have the same record, 1-1-1. Trojans Knights will face another tough team in week 4, Those Guys (2-1) so they need to tighten up that defense. As for the Gators, the key to success is consistency and they need to show that when they face Green Machine who are 1-2 (I wonder if this is a cheap imitation of the Mean Machine from Longest Yard).

Conference B

The Cobras entered week 3 being ranked first overall in offense and they went up against the Snookers. Alex Lever, the top rated QB, looked to lead his troops into battle and the Cobras were quite confident in themselves because I had received a letter from Frank Grenier emphasizing the fact that we should give them more respect and that they are the best team in division 4. Well it turned out that they ran into the wall they call Andre John. This young man dominated the match up on both sides of the ball. On offense he had 6 catches for 122 yards and 2 TDs while on defense he accumulated 6 tackles and a crucial interception. He is their leader on defense and orchestrated some key defensive stops on the goal line and redzone to solidify this win. In speaking to Andre John, he said that this win made a huge statement for his team, they came to play. More important, the Snookers move ahead of the Cobras in Conference B West side, both with 2-1 records. The Snookers definitely plan to build on this victory as they face the Flying Weasels in week 4. Another match up, which was supposed to be good, in Conference B West side was the Triple Sixers vs. Wonderslugs. The slugs got hammered by a score of 43-0 and there is really not much that can be said about this game. Karim Chaoual threw for 204 yards and 6 TDs and rushed for 38 yards and a TD. So far he is the leading candidate for the MVP this season as he is getting the job done for his team. The Triple Sixers also created separation between themselves and Wonderslugs in the standings with team 666 being the only 3-0 team in the West.

In the East side, Marauders won a very close one against Raiders with the final 27-26. Both QBs, M. Choueiri for Raiders and D. Beauregard for Marauders, threw 4 TDs but the difference was the extra point converts. I know the Marauders are happy to come out with a win and stay undefeated however this was a close call for them and I am sure they’ll want to avoid games of such nature. However I will give credit where credit is due, the Raiders wanted this game and were oh so close however they can take some positives from it, regroup and come back strong in week. The other surprise team in this West side is Dirty Birds. Their three wins so far have come against opponents who are combined 3-6 so I am not sold on this team just yet. They do have some talent with the FOUR Bs (Bisharas) and their talented QB J. Young who is also a sack master (had 4 sacks in week 3 against the Longhorns). If they start to beat some real contenders, they will definitely get more recognition. And you are now up to speed in division 4.

Three STARwars of the Week:

3rd star: Nicky McGuire (Trojan Knights) put up great numbers again, 8 receptions for 145 yards and 4 TDs.

2nd star: Karim Chaoual (Triple Sixers) shredded the Wonderslugs’ defense to pieces, 13-17 for 204 yards and 6 TDs, 38 rushing yards and a TD.

1st star: Andre John (Snookers) put his team on the map by defeating the Cobras, 6 receptions for 122 yards and 2 TDs, 6 tackles and 1 interception on defense.
