Inside the Redzone (D4) – Week 2

Welcome everyone to Inside The Redzone, your weekly Division 4 article. This past weekend, there were a lot of good games and we are already starting to see the good teams emerge but rest assured that there will be a lot of parity which will be clear in the upcoming weeks and I am definitely going to enjoy as it all unfolds. So without further adieu, it is time to look at the week that was!

Week 2 report

Conference A

I got a message from Keaven Larose, a player from Eagles, saying the following “Watch out for the Eagles. We’re there for the first place!!! ;-)” The Eagles are 2-0 right now and are tied with VPC in Conference A West division. Last game against the Bulldogs, they struggled a little bit on offense but when that occurred, they got it done defensively. The QB had a bad game so the defense had 4 interceptions, one returned for a TD. I spoke to Mr. Larose and he said everyone is a team player on the Eagles and everyone will step up when needed. Eagles face a good team in Trapstars (best defense in D4 right now) in week 3 and this will be a good challenge for them. This should be a tight low scoring game and the winner will probably be the team who makes the fewest mistakes. The Trapstars are also 2-0 and just pitched 22-0 shutout against the Hulkamaniacs who it seems are still not taking their vitamins or saying their prayers for that matter. The other top team in the West division, VPC, is doing quite well thus far and will definitely continue this trend as they face the Bulldogs next.

The game of the week was probably Cowboys vs. Those Guys, also a divisional game (both teams in Conference A East). It was a very back and forth game however the Cowboys pulled out a close one with the final score 33-25. J. Moodie had a great game for the Cowboys (4 TDs passing and 1 rushing) but none better than his receiver J. Douglas who had 5 rec, 133 yards and 2 TDs. The Cowboys defense came up big towards the end and that is what won them the game. I guess they are silencing the critics and are showing great signs of being a contender. Right behind them in standings are the Trojan Knights who had their QB Norman Weekes back in week 2. The Knights dominated this game and won by a score of 47-12. Nicky McGuire had a great game; on offense he collected 87 receiving yards with 2 TDs and on defense 1 tackle along with 2 interceptions of which one was returned for a TD. The Knights are regaining their form from Winter 2008 season and are my pick to win not only Conference A East division but to go to the finals. They had a rough first week due to Norman Weekes’ absence but are now on a mission to win it all.

In other news, the Gators won big but who knows what is going to happen next week. I would like to dedicate the song Hot N Cold by Katy Perry (and NO I am not copying Rostyn Castelton, I truly feel this is the best way I can express myself towards this team) to the Gators for obvious reasons. The Gators need to be consistent right now if they have a chance to be in playoffs, let alone be contenders. That path won’t be easy because in week 3 they take on the Trojan Knights. Last but not least, Those Guys need to bounce back from their loss in week 2 and what better way to do that than play Team Ditka. Unless some of the bottom teams start to show promise, it appears the top teams in Conference A East and West division should stay on top.

Conference B

The hottest team in this conference is the Cobras who scored over 100 points in just 2 games. They are firing on all cylinders right now led by Alex Lever who has thrown for 16 TDs and almost 500 yards passing. The Cobras are 2-0 and on top of the West division tied with Wonderslugs and Triple Sixers. This is probably the hardest division in D4 as you have Cobras, Wonderslugs, Triple Sixers and Chaos. Another team that can possibly be strong is Snookers and they play Cobras in week 3 so this will be a good test for them. However Snookers could be without their superstar Andre John due to a leg injury so that hurt Snookers’ chances in that game.

Triple Sixers also showed that they are contenders when they beat Chaos last weekend by a score 19-12. In speaking to Eugene McLaren (QB for Chaos) he felt his team never had a good start due to drop balls, defensive break downs on deep balls and horrible game as QB by himself. He knows that Chaos would have played a lot better but doesn’t want to take anything away from Triple Sixers (also known as the 666 squad which is very scary because I feel one of these days, they are going to start doing satanic rituals for TD celebrations) who played a great game and deserve to be 2-0. Wonderslugs are also off to a great start by going 2-0 and will put it to the test as they face Triple Sixers in week 3. This is a great chance for both teams to showcase their talent and show who is better and who deserves to 3-0. Not only that, but this game has been selected as the first ever FlagPlus Football Game of the Week. What does that mean? It means that we will have cameras at the field and will be filming this game. It means that the video clips will then be edited together to make a seamless recap, set to the music of NFL PrimeTime. Most of all, it means exposure for D4, so Triple Sixers and Wonderslugs, bring your A game.

On the East side, Marauders won again and are looking to stay strong, backed by their QB Denis Beauregard. The best thing about this team is everyone contributes and comes up big when it is needed and playing against a team like Marauders, it becomes that much harder because there are too many good players to contain. The only other team who could give them competition in the East are Dirty Birds (I hope the name doesn’t insinuate lack of hygiene). Dirty Birds are 2-0 but defeated the Flying Weasels who are having a horrible season so far (0-2) and Raiders (1-1) but I still think they need a better test and that just might be the Longhorns, a team coached by Gino Di Fazio; it should make for an interesting game. Going back to the Flying Weasels, they are 0-2 but I still haven’t lost complete hope in them as they are bound to start putting together some great games, followed by wins. A good start might be in week 3 because they play the 0-2 Dawgs.

That’s it for this week’s report. So far the favorites are showing why they are just that however I am sure as the season progresses, there will be some comebacks and upsets. I am definitely looking forward to some of the match ups in week 3 and please if you feel that you are not being covered or you want some respect for your team, contact me and make a case for yourself just like Keavon Larose from the Eagles.

Three STARwars of the Week:

3rd star: Nicky McGuire (Trojan Knights) getting it done on both sides of the ball, 87 yards receiving with 2 TDs on offense, 1 tackle and 2 INTs, one of which was a “pick six”, on defense.

2nd star: R Linteau (Marauders) had a monstrous game on defense with 2 tackles, 3 interceptions of which 2 were “pick six”.

1st star: Alex Lever (Cobras) put up great numbers once again, 20-282 for 295 yards and 8 TDs, this might be some sort of a FlagPlus Football record.

And this wraps up this week’s article. If you have comments/suggestions don’t hesitate to contact me on Facebook or via email at [email protected]. This is Rehan “J.J” Sarwar signing off and I wish you all luck in your week 3 match ups. Until then play hard, have fun and catch you all next week Inside The Redzone.
