Gimme ‘dem Bowls!

Hey hey! Iggy Magnets here once again, bringing you the coverage you want for the remaining Bowl Finals coming at you on Wednesday in Laval. Just as an FYI, spectators ARE allowed inside the Laval Dome. They will be scanned for the VaxiCode and will be mandated to wear their masks at all times.

We did discuss the recap of the Tier 1 Bowl Final game at large on Calling The Audible, so make sure you tune into that when it premieres on Wednesday, December 15th at 3pm.

My quick word on that game is that the Dylan Garber hook at 10-12 yards was left open for too long and then defenders started biting on pumps to that side of the field which then opened other areas of the field. It’s crazy what the most basic route in all of football can do, even in Tier 1 of FPF. Now, there’s more nuance to this finals game of FPF than just a hook route, but it definitely played a roll in KGP’s victory. In fact, to catch that game, Chris Rivest pumped out a video in record time, so check it out! I absolutely did not spoil anything by the above Instagram post.

Bowl Final Previews

For all my Bowl Final Picks, check out the final episode of Calling The Audible which premieres at 3pm on Wednesday Dec. 15th! For now, here’s my analysis for the remaining Bowl Finals.

Tier 2

Chocolate Thunder vs. Arouch

Can Arouch once again contain the deep ball like they did against Team Ethink? This time though, they need to defend the towering two of Nikki Papich and Tim Horner. If Arouch can take those deep balls away, then it will be up to Kano to hit the short/intermediate plays to guys like Dylan Catellier, Kyle Pedvis and Justin Peress, who are reliable pass catchers, but don’t have the game-breaking abilities of Papich and Horner.

For Arouch, Eric Lalonde cannot play with fire and have another game with 4 INTs. He was lucky they were up 26-7 at the half as 3 of the 4 INTs he threw came in the second half and that his defense was able to get 2 INTs of their own against Benoit Lawlor. If he throws another 3 or 4, that will spell the end of Arouch’s run, as Joe Kano will make them pay for their turnovers. I mentioned in my last article to feed Simon Losier, but Antoine Préfontaine was equally valuable, if not more, by hauling in all 6 of his targets for 49 yards, a TD and an INT. These 2 will once again need to be the answer to Papich and Horner if Arouch wants to come out victorious in the Cash “Akked Moore” Bracket.

Centaures vs. Tough Lungs

Tough Lungs have finally become their full form. They have blossomed out of leaning all on Justin Lerner while brother Matthew Lerner has evolved his Quarterback game to a place where the game has slowed down and is making the right reads and throws he needs to. Case in point regarding Justin, he actually ended their Semi-Final win against the Bruins with 0 TDs. Instead, Marlon Roc and Daron Migdesyan aka “The Wrangler” each had 2 TDs and combined for 89 yards, while Roc added a defensive INT alongside his 7 tackles and 1 Pass Defended. Of course, Lerner will (and justifiably so) take the best coverage defender a team has, which opens things up for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th options at receiver. And now they are coming off a thrilling Playoff Overtime victory over the Bruins where they won it on the final convert, deciding to go for 2 and win it on their 3rd convert attempt, so they have added the mental toughness to their team.

For Centaures, as Peeze has mentioned many times now, they might have the most stacked roster, and took care of KGP Ra in their Semi-Final matchup, rather convincingly. Hugo Allamanno and Vincent Benjamin are absolute game-breakers on both sides of the ball, plus the added experience and talent of Kevin Boustany makes Centaures an incredibly difficult matchup for any team, Tough Lungs included. This finals game will really be a tight contest, as across all 6 players on both teams, there are good matchups that both Quarterbacks believe their guys have the upper hand. I can see Tough Lungs playing in their second straight overtime game to decide who wins the Kevin Wyeth Bracket.

Hot Sauce Sports vs. Ravens

Ravens, after hitting a bump in the road in the Fall season, find themselves once again in a Championship Final. The last time they were here, they had the case of the dropsies. They made their free agent acquisitions for this very reason, to be back in a Finals for a shot at redemption. An interesting question is whether rusher Max Ledoux will make his long-awaited return to the lineup. What a time it would be as well, having a great rusher come back for the finals (although don’t tell that to brother Jérémie Ledoux) who had a monster game rushing Alex Fafard, sacking the latter 5 times in their Semi-Finals game against Los Siete Amigos.

Hot Sauce Sports, in turn, will need to come up with a game plan on defense to stop Justin Sarlabous who took his 5 receptions for 85 yards and a hat-trick of Touchdowns in their last game. They may need to put a speedster or 2 (Joey Notaro or Justin Blanchard or James Langshaw) in the short zones to prevent Sarlabous from breaking free and gaining extra YAC yards. Offensively, Peeze needs to simply not throw the dreaded pick 6. He’s come a long way from the days of throwing three pick 6’s in a single game and needs to continue protecting the football and take the sack instead of throwing a wobbler off his back-foot (like he did in a Co-Ed game this past weekend).

Tier 3

FSU vs. The West Yard

We talked about this game a little bit on Calling The Audible and couldn’t really make up our minds on both teams. FSU went with a Quarterback change for a playoff game in what seemed like Matthew Goldenberg‘s absence. Without putting controversy into the mix, Alejandro Fonte put up the stats, going 12/18 for 147 with 3 TDs, 1 INT, 55 rushing yards and adding another score on the ground. With him and Manny Bizogias leading the charge on offense, what punched their ticket to the finals was Jake Newman‘s 3 INT performance that stifled the Two Inch’s Gang offense. Newman could have a repeat performance against The West Yard’s Stern, and if he does, that could mean a championship Bowl for FSU.

As for The West Yard, they will need Jonathan Steinberg to get several sacks on whichever Quarterback suits up for FSU. Goldenberg is shifty, in particular with his fake reverse move which makes you double-take when you see it, so Steinberg will need to be the answer to any QB runs. Generally, he doesn’t bite on any moves and goes straight for the flag, just like they teach you in Rusher school.

Otherwise, these are actually 2 quite similar teams. They are good more due to their athletic abilities, but are slowly gaining the FPF experience (1 or 2 seasons now) to know what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly, how to win football games.

Warriors vs. Save a Horse

Ah, the Cash Bracket Final… and what a final it is! We’ve got the offensively flashy, and now veteran Warriors team going against the up-and-coming stars in Save a Horse.

Warriors have been in several finals, including Winter 2018 and Fall Cup 2019 (from my memory) but both times came up on the wrong end. I think the Warriors rusher Zak Sigler will play an important role in this final. To understand why, you’ve gotta watch my take on Calling The Audible, which again, premieres at 3pm on Wednesday. But he will definitely remember sacking Air Force 1 QB Simon Blais, but taking a taunting penalty, leading to an automatic 1st down, leading immediately to a 40-bomb TD on the very next play that they never recovered from. Apart from that, the Warriors offense has always been a prolific one, and what’s more to say about 20 touchdowns in 8 games from Benji Ziegler?

For Save a Horse, I did like the composure Kyle Daniel showed in his Semi-Finals game against Free Agent Squad, after throwing a pick on his very 1st playoff pass attempt, as well as his 3rd pass attempt in the game. Luckily for him, his defense was able to bail those 2 turnovers with a pick by Owen LaValliere and a sack that led to FAS punting the ball to the half. It’s not everyday that you throw more INTs than your opponent and come away with an 8 point victory (what was actually a 16 point lead before the last score by FAS). He will need to better protect the ball and not run unnecessarily.

Co-Ed Cup

EZFun vs. Y&Y

This too will be a fun affair with top-notch athletes, men and women alike going at it. Y&Y likely have the best women in the division in many facets: route running, speed, hands, football awareness and IQ. EZFun has the slight edge with the boys as they might be the best tackle-turned-flag football guys, although Y&Y isn’t far behind with Quaysie, Ryan and Fred, but there’s no one quite as frustrating to try to tackle as both Jeremy White and CO Lavigne.

Also, there’s that important piece of information from the Y&Y lineup. It appears that Quaysie Gordon-Maule, fresh off his Tier 1 Championship, will be the more utilized Quarterback under centre Wednesday in Laval. This is unlike the lineup they used to best Kiss My End Zone, where they put up 41 points. So, the rusher vs. QB matchup on both sides will be an extremely intriguing battle that will try to neutralize the running ability of both quarterbacks. Quaysie has tried to target Tyler McPherson, but as tall as he his, Quaysie manages to overthrow him by several feet.

Naturally then, the better thrower of the football is Jeremy White, and thus begs the question of who will cover Lavigne and Ferland? Also, Y&Y shouldn’t look past Veronique Beaudoin. She piled up 266 yards and 6 TDs over 6 games, was a reliable deep threat for Jeremy when all the attention was on the boys, and in fact led their team in receiving yards and was 2nd in TDs in the Qualification Round. She’s the not-so-secret weapon for the EZFun offense, and put up another 30 yards and 1 TD against The Rock.

Well that does it this week for my last article of the Fall Cup, hope you enjoyed the articles throughout the season (even though I was in and out of St. Louis). Hope you enjoyed participating in the Fall Cup and we will see you on the fields next month for the Winter season; the biggest, most challenging and best of all FPF seasons!
