FPF Junior is Finally Back!

We. Are. Back.

It felt like FPF Junior was gone forever because frankly, it was. While the rest of FPF was able to get in a season last summer, FPF Junior has not seen any action in over 18 months. That being said, we have not spent the past year and a half twiddling our thumbs. For this season, we will be attempting to work in some new and creative ways to cover the division. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and stay tuned for the weekly articles. Most importantly, please let me know what you think of our initiatives. You can reach me with your feedback, comments or questions by email at [email protected]

Before going any further, for all those of you who are wondering who this person writing the articles is, I am Alexi Dubois. I have been involved with FPF Junior since the very first game. I started off as a player and I played three seasons in FPF Junior. I still play in the league, except in the adult divisions. If you have any questions about how the league runs or joining the adult divisions, let me know.

I will be writing weekly articles about the junior games and highlights of the league. The articles will take various formats, but I will do my best to cover as many teams and players as I can throughout the season.

This week, I will be replacing parts of the article with audio clips. I know that 2,000 words articles can be a bit intimidating, so the goal of these clips is to make the article slightly more digestible. As always, please let me know what you think of this new format.

Week 1 Recaps

Chomedy Blues 3 (0) vs Chomededy Blues 2 (6)

APH 2 (6) vs Rosemere (25)

Week 1 Game of the Week

FC Saint-Laurent (19) vs Cougars (20)

Two of FPF Juniors most experienced teams went head-to-head in week one and the result sure was up to expectations. Not only were these teams battling each other, but they also had to overcome abysmal weather conditions. It was raining during this game which made throwing and catching the ball just that much more difficult. The end result was a lot of running plays. While the two teams combined for barely over 100 passing yards, they totaled over 240 rushing yards.

For the Cougars, those rushing yards came courtesy of Matthew Cooper and Jeremy St-Vil, both of whom ran for 71 yards and a touchdown. In his post-game interview, Cougar’s coach Glen Cooperdescribed St-Vil as having some of the quickest feet he has ever seen. Those quick feet clearly translated into significant rushing yards. I would expect St-Vil to be a threat in the run game all season long. On defence, Cooper and St-Vil once again made their presence felt with an interception each. However, Zack Eglenceyan also helped lift the Cougars to victory with his sack.

As for FC Saint-Laurent, I expect this team to be a powerhouse all season long. They have an exciting mix of FPF Junior veterans like Luca Swaminadhan and some exciting new talent. Emmanuel Brindalos seems to be the most important addition for this FC Saint-Laurent team. He led all receivers with five catches for 53 yards. With Luca Swaminadhan at the helm, Saint-Laurent is clearly going to be a tough team to beat this year. I look forward to seeing these two teams faceoff in better conditions. I think it could make for an extremely exciting high scoring affair.

Be sure to listen below for coach Glen Cooper’s comments about his team’s game.

Conclusion

For all you stats enthusiasts out there you may have realized there are a few issues with some of the stats on the website. We have recently updated our website and scorekeeping app which resulted in a few bugs. We are currently working on resolving them and everything should be up and running smoothly very soon.

And with that, the first week of FPF Jr action is already in the books. In the coming weeks, I will try and vary up both the content and the way in which it is presented. Your feedback about what you like, and dislike is always appreciated, so please feel free to let me know.

Good luck to all the teams in action in week 2 and    be sure to stay tuned to the website and Instagram for more exciting content.
