2020 FPF CUP

FALL SEASON

The 4th annual Fall tournament can include a maximum of 48 teams, divided into three calibers (based on team caps). A separate Co-Ed division will be offered as well. For all safety and sanitation specifications tied to COVID-19, please see our ‘RETURN TO PLAY’ document.

SEASON START DATE IS MONDAY, AUGUST 3; PROJECTED END DATE IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 13 (edited from original October 28th projection).

Teams can register for the division (referred to as ‘Tier’ in the Fall Cup) of their choice, as they would in a Winter or Spring season.

The 2020 FPF Cup will feature the three Tiers and one Co-Ed Division:

  • TIER 1: 490 cap; QB cap: 100.0
  • TIER 2: 440 cap; QB cap: 80.0
  • TIER 3: 390 cap; QB cap: 70.0
  • Co-Ed: 430 cap; QB cap: 80.0
    • Usual Co-Ed specific rules apply for Co-Ed

Cap Analysis:

  • The Tier 1 cap is 490, (comparable to Spring Div B [500] and Winter Div 3 [480]); there is no QB Cap in Tier 1. The objective here is to allow a highly rated QB to participate, albeit with a more weakened roster than they may be accustomed to, to increase parity.
  • The Tier 2 cap is slightly lower than the Winter Division 4A cap [445] and right in between the Spring Div C [460] and Div D [420] cap. Once again the QB cap is slightly higher than the Winter and Spring equivalents.
  • The Tier cap 3 is slightly higher than the Spring Div E cap [380] and just below the Winter Div 5B cap [400].
  • The Co-Ed 430 cap splits the Winter Co-Ed 1 [460] and Co-Ed 2 [400] down the middle.

FPF Cup Format Breakdown

  • There are a total of 20 teams in Tier 2; they are divided into two balanced groups, based on pre-season rankings.
  • The Preliminary Round games (first 4 games) are scheduled and played. Match ups are based primarily on Skedbuilder preferences.
  • Taking the standings following those 4 games, all Tier 2 teams are divided into two new pools (a top half group and a bottom half group) – as shown in the second table below
  • Once teams are placed into those two groups, the Qualification Round games (last 4 games) are played featuring match ups within the same pool only.
  • Once all teams have played their 8 games, total standings re-grouping all 20 teams will be used to determine who advances to the Knockout Round.

Teams ranked 1 to 4 overall qualify for the Cash Bracket (below, in green); teams ranked 5 to 8 qualify for Consolation 1 Bracket (below, in yellow); and teams ranked 9 to 12 qualify for the Consolation 2 Bracket. Teams 13 to 20 do not qualify for the Knockout Round.

  • Whether a team was placed in the top-half group or bottom-half group does not affect their ability to qualify for the knockout round. (except as a tiebreak, where the top-half team will have the advantage, due to stronger competition).
  • There is no promotion and relegation between tiers, teams can only move within their same original tier.
