Fourth-and-Goal (Div C) – Week 9

We’re about to see the end of the regular season. For some of you, it means that you’ll be able to now focus your efforts on golf, the outdoor touch season, or anything else your heart desires. The others, however, have punished themselves and after this week will have to compete in the dark, dank pits of the Catalogna Soccerplexe for a shot at…having to play more games in the dark, dank pits of the Catalogna Soccerplexe.

Entertaining Scenarios

For the last week of the regular season, we’re poised for some great football games. We’re also looking at the possibility of a lot of shuffling (at least in Conference B)

Let’s take a look at the rankings. An asterisk denotes a team that has locked in a playoff appearance.

It’s pretty simple; essentially the winner between the Mustangs du Gridiron/Real Deal matchup will get the 8th seed and make playoffs.

This is where it gets SUPER FUN. It all boils down to the game between KGP Champs and The Incredibles. If you’re in Conference B, and you’re ranked 4th through 9th, you’re implicated directly. Depending of course on the other matches of the week, a lot of shuffling can take place.

If KGP Champs beat The Incredibles, the teams that are currently ranked 1st through 8th will make it through to the playoffs. If, however, The Incredibles beat KGP Champs, the following scenarios present themselves:

–        If Rude Bwoys win or tie their game, Favre Dollar Footlongs win or tie their game and Pap N’ Co win their game, KGP Champs will be eliminated

–        If Rude Bwoys lose, Flight of the Conchords and Favre Dollar footlongs tie each other and Pap N’ Co win, Rude Bwoys will be eliminated

–        If Rude Bwoys lose, Favre Dollar Footlongs win and Pap N’ Co win, Flight of the Conchords will be eliminated

–        If Flight of the Conchords win or tie and Pap N’ Co win or tie, Favre Dollar Footlongs will be eliminated

–        If Favre Dollar Footlongs win or tie, and Pap N’ Co lose or tie, Pap N’ Co will be eliminated

–        If Flight of the Conchords win and Pap N’ Co lose, then either Favre Dollar Footlongs or Pap N’ Co will be eliminated, depending on point differential (Favre Dollar Footlongs currently lead with +4)

–        If Rude Bwoys lose, Favre Dollar Footlongs win or tie and Pap N’ Co tie, then either Rude Bwoys or Pap N’ Co will be eliminated, depending on point differential (Rude Bwoys currently lead with +72)

Random Thoughts

–        That math must have been tiring. It’s a good thing that I didn’t do it.

–        Of all the teams I’d like to see win this week (besides my own), I’d want to have Silent Assassins win so that Division C finishes without a winless team

–        The “will he or won’t he” will ensue in the Monstars/HOF game as Adam Crystal goes for the record!

Semi-Quick Picks

So, it’s the moment of truth. Simon and I are virtually tied at the moment; Simon has a 65.8% accuracy rating when it comes to picking teams and my accuracy rating is 65.4% when I exclude picking my own team. Thankfully, we differ in quite a few picks this week, so I’ll have the ability to jump ahead. Only time will tell.

The Incredibles vs. KGP Champs: In the battle of Selwyn House football alumni, I feel that KGP Champs have a deeper roster. Even if it means that the fabulously convoluted playoff scenario would disappear, they’re my pick.

Broccasion vs. Patriotes: Two teams who had a rough outing last year in Division B.  Broccasion seem to have turned everything around however. Look for them for the win.

Rude Bwoys vs. Predators: For some reason, I’m getting the impression that the Rude Bwoys have a game plan this week. They might just slay the dragon.

Flight of the Conchords vs. Favre Dollar Footlongs: Most of the time, I’ll take experience over youth. This game counts as a most. Flight of the Conchords

Real Deal vs. Mustangs du Gridiron: If push comes to shove, I think that Real Deal have the experience, as well as the assets in order to get themselves that last playoff spot.

French Toast Mafia FFC vs. Sphinx: While both teams are out of the playoffs, both will be looking for a win after slumping. I think that Sphinx will win by a close margin.

Hall of Famers vs. Monstars: I think that HoF are going to set their sights more on setting that TD record rather than focusing on the game at hand.  Monstars will take advantage.

Formerly Teamless vs. Le Zoo: N/A

Daron Basmadjian Fan Club vs. The Commission: A repeat of last year’s finals in which both teams have strengthened their rosters. Technically speaking, I chose Daron Basmadjian Fan Club 5 weeks ago.

Prestige World Wide vs. Mongoose: Last season’s champs are out of the playoffs, and looking for a pride win. Unfortunately, I think that Prestige World Wide will deny them even that.

Eagles vs. X-Men: Another set of slumping teams. Look for the Eagles, by a small margin.

Silent Assassins vs. Ninja Turtles: More than anything, I want Silent Assassins to win just to have a win on the board. But I think they’ll win regardless.

Pap n’ Co vs. Like Our TDs: Pap n’ Co are really coming into their element. Look for them to continue with what works.

Jewish Cucumbers vs. Pump & Ditch: A battle of which QB is more mobile. The debate aside, I think that Pump & Ditch are more capable and more well-rounded.

I’m super excited for the games to kick off tonight. I’ll be there for as many as I can, hoping that this season’s excitement carries over into fantastic matchups in the postseason. Give me a shout on the field, or shoot me an email at [email protected]
