Formerly Teamless; Currently Overrated

Peeze’s Playbook Week.3

F-1 Weekend is a great time in Montreal. Not only is it a time where we all pretend to take a genuine interest in automotive racing, it also ensures that the city gets overrun by some of the greatest parties in North America. Enjoy the sun, the scantily clad, and getting gouged on drinks. Ensure that you end your weekend with FPF. At the very least, there isn’t a cover charge.

Dropping Bombs

In a game where FFFT seemed to struggle on both sides of the ball, it could not have been easy to learn of the potential season-ending knee injury to Chris McCarthy. Early on, the Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless offence struggled to move the chains. In the second half, Jon Brown seemed to have recovered and after throwing touchdowns to Miroslav Valikov, GM Koletheras and Alex Lamarche, he held the ball with a chance to go ahead late in the game. After a disagreement in the huddle, Jon Brown scanned the field, made a throw to the back of the end zone and he was intercepted by BronxBombers’ Hugo Roberge who iced the game by returning the interception for 6 points.

BronxBombers have looked gritty and has competed against some of the more established teams in the division and have emerged with a winning record. James Nowakowski did make some mistakes in this game but his 2 interceptions did not end up harming the team as his three touchdowns would be enough offensive output to win the game. Alex Holowach is definitely the second most handsome snapper in the division, however he may be the most effective. He has a team high 18 catches and his efforts were a factor in this Game as the BronxBombers survive week 3 with a 28-18 win.

Alpha’s Season Not Yet Cancelled

So I didn’t really expect anyone to understand the really obscure reference to an awesome, yet cancelled science-fiction show. In fact, if more of you had gotten the reference, then perhaps it wouldn’t have gotten cancelled. If you don’t feel guilty, know that you should.

Two struggling teams took the field in week 3 as The Alpha T’s took on the Blue Devils. We knew that this would be an interesting game but I do not believe anyone would have believed that these two teams would have scored 82 points between them. The Alpha T’s quarterback Jean Lussier threw for a division high 246 yards and 8 touchdowns in a 52-30 win over the Blue Devils. Kory Dugas Beaulieu and Jesse Dupuis did the bulk of the damage as both receivers scored 4 touchdowns apiece.

Gianfranco Ranaudo used to be the quarterback for Lockdown, a team known for a steady defense. Perhaps, in those days his 5 touchdown performance would have been enough to propel his team to success. Instead, having given up 26 points in each half, the Blue Devils felt the bitter sting of defeat for the third week in a row. The one bright spot for the Blue Devils may in fact be Olivier Poulin who intercepted Lussier and scored 2 touchdowns on the other side of the ball. The Blue Devils seem to make strides each week however, this is the second time that they have allowed 50 points twice so far this young season. Unless their defense can keep them in games they cannot expect games to go differently.

D’s Nuts Get Pushed Around

D’s Nuts has looked like one of the top teams in the division thus far in the season. However, they did not look that was in week 3 as they fell behind 21-0 early against the Backyard Bullies. David Daoust was not in his usual form as he overthrew nearly a dozen passes, completed less than half of his attempts and was intercepted twice. He improved after that as D’s Nuts went on a run of their own and took the lead 22-21 after 2 touchdowns by Joel Malkin and another Devin Daoust. Finally, it was a failed conversion on 4th down that would let the Backyard Bullies Back in it.

With just moments left and the ball quarterback Rich Humes looked cool under pressure and delivered. The Backyard Bullies only scored once in the second half but it was at a key moment in this game. Humes’ 4 touchdown performance proved to be enough and his interception on the defensives side of the ball, along with William Hurst’s turned out to be key in a ball possession game that ended in a final score of 27-22 in favor of the Backyard Bullies.

Power Rankings

Only three teams are perfect after three weeks and yet, I’m not even convinced, in some cases that these are the best teams. I’ve listed my thoughts as to why and who below. Criticisms are accepted but not entirely welcome on Twitter @PeezeFPF

  1. Warhawks (3-0)- They are winning by an average of 15.7 points per game. Moreover, the Warhawks have yet to loose a game. It is early but I do believe that they may have what it takes to end the season on a perfect note. For the record, the perfect note is C if the interval began at G.
  1. Tomahawk Nightmare (2-1)- Their only loss came against the Warhawks who have been on a tear. By air and by ground, Jean-Francois Marquis has been getting it done.
  1. Gotham Knights (2-0)- I would have had my doubts in the pre-season had I known that Chris Rivest was the man lining up behind the centre. I will be a more ardent believer if they can get by Les Affreux this week.
  1. Les Affreux(2-1)- With a big matchup ahead, Les Affreux will have a chance to climb the latter. The defense is predictably being led by Daniel Bellefeuille who is currently on pace to register 20 sacks this season.
  1. D’s Nuts (2-1)- David Daoust and co. failed to come through in a key moment in week 3. I am not ready to consider this a trend. Only time will tell whether we just witnessed the exception, or the rule.
  1. Tyrants (2-1)- The Tyrants defense has been suffocating and their success has been a welcomed surprise. This group has been together for a long time and their chemistry and communication has led them to dominance thus far.
  1. Formerly Formerly Formerly Teamless (2-1)- They took a loss in their week 3 matchup. They were without stars Khalil Kerr and Quaysie Gordon-Maule. They may be somewhat big play dependent but I think the bulk of their roster will be there most weeks.
  1. Jagerbomb (2-1)- Win one/lose one. Not convincing enough to make a bigger move up on the power rankings.
  1. Globo Gym Purple Cobras (2-1)- They’ve played in a lot of close games. Still, I believe there is something special about this team. Had they not allowed a touchdown on the last play in week 1, this team could be 3-0.
  2. 5 Star Prospects (2-1)- As expected, Jeremy Anderson is leading this team to success. They don’t have a particularly easy schedule. They will definitely be road tested if they keep winning and make it to the post-season.

Other Teams Receiving Votes

I asked David Letterman for his vote this week. He informed me that he retired from making lists. He then proceeded to brag about being close personal friends with a Cartoon Character that resembled the life and times of Bob Saget.

  • Backyard Bullies (2-1)- They have won two straight games by a combined 6 points. I just don’t see it yet. If they string more wins together I will start to believe.
  • Pardon My Swag (2-1)-Their one loss was a terrible blowout. They do have the potential for games to go sideways. If they can keep games close, they will be effective.
  • Woofpack (2-1)-Terry Tam has yet to throw an interception. However, they still haven’t got the offence in full swing. If they can start to put points up, they will definitely crack the top ten.
  • Hot Boys Hotline (2-1)- These games have been ugly. HBH are inartistic and sloppy. They lost this week as Vadim Chernyak was taken away. If no one else can step it up, Hot Boys Hotline will have no one to answer the call.
  • BronxBombers (2-1)- The BonxBombers had some tough matchups in the first 3 weeks and have come out of it with a winning record. This may be a team to look out for later in the season.

Reflections Rants and Ravings

  • I’ve been told that there aren’t any more shows quite like Gilmore Girls these days. I would imagine that it is a horror a kin to what Kurtz may have witnessed in his lifetime.
  • 3 quarterbacks have thrown 15 touchdowns or more so far this season. Will we have 3 50+ TD qbs this season.
  • I do not believe we will have a 10-0 team. However, we may see someone go winless for an entire season.
  • It turns out that soccer is more interesting when you ignore the rules and play while consuming adult beverages.
  • Someone needs to explain what a cabbage soup cleanse is.
  • This week will feature two of Div. D’s finest in action this week as the Gotham Knights face Les Affreux.
  • I didn’t know that they made double breasted aprons.

Hung-over Visions of the World of Tomorrow

It would appear that as the season is wearing on my lead over Mat is growing by leaps and bounds. I’ve noticed that he is still playing it conservatively but he may need to start taking chances or find himself left behind. If you haven’t made fun of him yet remember that you can do it 140 characters at a time by tweeting him at: @MathieuDomonFPF.
