Food for Thought (Div B) – Week 9

While the regular season is already in the books for some, the last game of the season is looming in for others. 4 teams are still fighting for survival and 4 others will try to break their dreams. Though the Rude Bwoys and Falcons may already be eliminated, they may still bring someone down with them. But the team holding the most wrecking power has to be Redemption. If they win over the Alkoholiks, they automatically eliminate them from the playoffs which would constitute a tremendous surprise as they were listed as one of the top 4 teams of the division at the start of this season. On the other hand, the Maniax, the Blackshirts and FTMP qualify with a win. Can they pull it off?

Let’s look at the possibilities that next week’s games hold in store:

G-Men vs Big TDs

With Jamil Springer suspended and Paul Kamel deciding to kick back and relax, this game, which already did not have much incidence on the standings, might be even more boring than anticipated. On the other hand, a second round matchup could prove to be much more interesting…let’s cross our fingers…

Prestige World Wide vs FTMP

Can Alex Lever eliminate his good friend Rehan Sarwar’s team? He might not even have to since he is a questionable presence for next weekend. If Prestige World Wide (who already clinched 3rd place) actually decide to take the night off, FTMP would complete their great comeback run into the playoffs after staving off elimination by beating a shocked Terminators team in Week 9. A rematch against Gino Di Fazio & co. in the first round would definitely be a treat for anyone in attendance!

Redemption vs Alkoholiks

After failing to clinch a playoff berth against the Rude Bwoys in week 9, the Alkoholiks now need some help to stay in the hunt. They need to win against Redemption and hope that the Maniax, the Blackshirts or FTMP lose their game this weekend. But getting over the first task of disposing of Redemption might prove to be a very tall order in its own. Redemption’s defense, which resembles very much the one that stifled them a week ago, is built to stop Paul Lapierre’s powerful offense. Maybe Garrett Taylor, who recently entered his twenties, might prove to be the difference as he resumes his spot in the lineup.

Maniax vs Rude Bwoys

This is a game that’s hard to predict. The Maniax are finally awake after sleeping off the first half of the season and the eliminated Rude Bwoys showed last week that they can still compete with Matt Clow at quarterback. Even though the Maniax are the clear favorites to win this one and qualify for the playoffs, I was so impressed by the play of Matt Clow last week that I feel like his team might prove to be a tougher out than anticipated. But if Rapha Beladjat is not stopped, then it’s goodbye Rude Bwoys!

Blackshirts vs Falcons

Can the Falcons win their first and final game this season? Not if they just stand and watch as Mathieu René demonstrates how to win back-to-back QB of the Year awards. With Rostyn Castleton back in the lineup, the Blackshirts have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with as they trounced the flabbergasted Big TDs in week 9. Out of the 4 teams facing elimination, the Blackshirts are facing by far the easiest challenge. Now, will they shoot themselves in the foot?

To better illustrate the potential playoff situation, here are the probable standings depending on this weekend’s games:

1.       G-Men (y)

2.       Terminators (x)

3.       Prestige World Wide (x)

4.       Big TDs (x) / Redemption (x)

5.       Big TDs (x)  / Redemption (x) / Maniax / Blackshirts

6.       Redemption (x) / Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

7.       Redemption (x) / Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

8.       Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

—————————–

9.       Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks / Rude Bwoys (e)

10.   Alkoholiks / Rude Bwoys (e)

11.   Falcons (e)

(e) = eliminated team

(x) = clinched a playoff berth

(y)  = regular season champion

Here would be the potential first round opponents for every team (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.):

G-Men:  Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

Terminators: Redemption / Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

Prestige World Wide: Redemption / Maniax / Blackshirts / FTMP / Alkoholiks

Big TDs: Redemption / Maniax / Blackshirts

Redemption: Big TDs / Prestige World Wide / Terminators

Maniax: G-Men / Terminators / Prestige World Wide / Big TDs

Blackshirts: G-Men / Terminators / Prestige World Wide / Big TDs

FTMP: G-Men / Terminators / Prestige World Wide

Alkoholiks: G-Men / Terminators / Prestige World Wide

As a reminder, here is the tie-breaker priority (same amount of points):

Two teams tied

1. Wins

2. Head-to-Head results

3. + / –

More than 2 teams tied

1. Wins

2. + / –

In a 3 way tie, once a team has been identified as the leader, Head-to-Head results are NOT used to break the tie between the remaining 2 teams. Wins and point differential continue to be used.

Please verify your players’ games played on the site as only players with 5 or more will be eligible for the playoffs.
