Food For Thought (Div B) – Week 10

After 10 gruelling weeks of highs and lows, controversial calls and lucky breaks, everyone finally knows where they stand. If you missed the cut, do not despair. There will always be another season. For those of you who managed to stay on the playoff side of the knife, the fun only begins!

All 8 teams that will partake in this season’s championship run have an equal chance to win it all. Yes, some teams might seem stronger than others. But don’t be fooled! Any of those teams could stick 3 wins in a row.

3 tiny little victories…

Think about it…

G-Men (1) vs Alkoholiks (8)

Gianni Settino has proven that his notoriety is not unmerited and has shown to all his detractors that he is one of the best QB’s in FPF. This week, he will get a chance to enhance his reputation by facing off against a very cunning and experienced foe in Paul Lapierre. Meanwhile, the Taylor brothers, who should ultimately hold the fate of their team in their hands, will be trying to outdo one another in order to give their teammates an edge. Which one of them will step up and hold the other one back?

Terminators (2) vs Maniax (7)

In this pure offensive battle between the best aerial attack and the deadliest rushing quarterback, the team who creates the most turnovers will most likely win. Marc Champagnie, who is still questionable for Sunday’s game, will be the key-player for the mercenaries as he can single-handedly nullify Rapha Beladjat’s aerial attack. From then on, it will be up to Renaldo Jordan and Jon Lyristis to limit Beladjat’s rushes. The Maniax will need a tremendous game from their supporting cast who are usually far too complacent in these situations. If Godfrey Abu manages to communicate his fiery temper to his teammates, David might stand a chance at defeating Goliath.

Prestige World Wide (3) vs Blackshirts (6)

When a broken finger ended Jacques Void’s season two weeks ago, the future looked awfully bleak for the Blackshirts. It is then that I realized that Jacque’s demise would force Mathieu René to expand his use of the underestimated receiving core that was assembled for him at the start of the season. As J. P. Mancini and Vince Nardone start getting some confidence on the offensive side of the ball, the Blackshirts offence might actually be more balanced and thus, more powerful than with their star receiver present. For Alex Lever and his team, the task will be quite simple: match the Blackshirts offence point for point and wait for that juicy turnover that will eventually come by.

Big TD’s (4) vs Redemption (5)

This matchup can easily be resumed by this statement: Jamil Springer vs Andre Knights. Whoever has the best game, will lead his team to victory. That’s it. End of story.

Of the 100+ players who were involved in the B Division action this season, 4 athletes have made it their task to dominate their respective positions. These players have displayed poise, leadership and tremendous athletic ability every time they were on the field. They made their teammates better and gained their opponents respect.

Here are the 4 award winners of the Spring 2010 Division B Season:

QB of the Year: Mathieu René

Mathieu had the most impressive offensive numbers at his position in the whole division B. The fact he was able to achieve such excellence while competing against some of the best pivots of FPF is definitely a commendable feat. But most importantly, this is his second trophy in a row!

Receiver of the Year: Bryan Joseph

When Bryan received his first all-star selection this past Winter Season, most observers were still wandering who he was. He has now made a name for himself by snatching this award from the hands of very tough competitors most of whom played in Division 2 this past winter. Watch out for this quick route runner because he is definitely on the rise!

Best Defensive Player: Godfrey Abu

Usually known for his offensive prowess, Godfrey has let everyone know that he can also terrorize opposing defences. Quick and agile (especially for someone of his bulk) he will intercept jump balls, disrupt short plays and rush a quarterback into a bad decision. Definitely one of the scariest sights for an opposing pivot!

Best Two-Way Player: Anthony Thompson

Anthony was by far the most dominating player in the Division this season. From catching touchdowns with one hand to intercepting passes and running them back all the way, all his plays were spectacular. He also registered this season’s best performance by a receiver in all of FPF with 134 yards receiving.

REMEMBER THAT PLAYERS NEED 5 OFFICIAL GAMES PLAYED IN ORDER TO BE ELLIGIBLE FOR THE PLAYOFFS!
