Flo’s Forecast: Week 4 Recap – Week 5 Preview

Congrats to the Monstars for winning their first game in division A this past week. It was only a few short years ago that the Monstars were a division 4 team that I would enjoy beating up on and Rod Mashtoub was completing 40% of his passes. Sure, they’ve added some big-name players along the way but the core remains the same and the driving force of the team. The evolution of Mashtoub at quarterback, and the team as a whole has been really fun to watch. It just serves as a reminder to any lower division teams and players that yes, it is possible to compete at the highest level if you stick to it and keep challenging yourselves to improve each and every time you set foot on the field.

Week 5 – Let’s go.

Week 4 Recaps:

Div. A

Monstars 39, Top Guns 31

The pesky Monstars won their first game of the season over Top Guns in a game that not many expected them to. Jacques Void had a big impact in his first game with Top Guns this season as he hauled in three passes for 57 yards and three scores. On the flip side, Isiah Allard had a huge game for the Monstars also scoring three touchdowns, but it was Jad Aridi’s pick-six (one of his two interceptions) that was the difference in this one. The Monstars defense stepped up big time in this one picking off an experienced quarterback like Paul Lapierre three times. They’ll look to build on their big first win as they face All Black Everything this week, while the Top Guns will look to bounce back as they face the 1-3 Legends.

Div. B

#NoRegard 18, Red Raiders 0

In a game that featured a TOTAL of 103 passing yards between the two quarterbacks, #NoRegard brought the D and came out with division B’s first shutout of the season, a feat that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Shutouts are extremely rare in FPF, and especially rare in higher divisions. It all started up front for the #NoRegard defense as rusher Hugo Lalonde continued to find success as he finished with four sacks on the day, putting him in the league lead with nine this season. The Moses brothers added an interception apiece and the defensive domination was on. In a game where defenses ruled the day, the #NoRegard offense struggled mightily to move the ball as well as they only managed 86 yard of total offense. However, they were able to make the most out of every yard as they were able to punch it in three times to give them a second impressive victory in a row after starting the season 0-2. For the Red Raiders, it was a third straight rough outing for Michael Roy after a hot start to the season, with this being the lowlight. The Raiders offense will look to get things turned around this week against the Kings while #NoRegard will look for their third straight win against a dominant Star City team.

Week 5 Previews:

Div. A Game of the Week

Montreal’s Finest (4-0) vs. Rainmakers (3-1)

The Rainmakers struggled to put up a good fight against ABE last week and now comes a hot Finest team coming in undefeated. I just don’t like the matchup here for the Rainmakers unfortunately. Their defense hasn’t been that improved and they’re going to need a stop of some sort because the way that the Finest defense is playing right now, it’s almost a given that they will be able to stop the Rainmakers offense.

Prediction: Montreal’s Finest 45, Rainmakers 31

Div. B Game of the Week

Ambassadors of Quan (2-2) vs. 2HD (3-1)

Joey Taylor has been absolutely on fire to start off the season. His dink and dunk attack has been too much for opposing defenses to handle but now they face an Ambassadors of Quan team that has played really well in the past two weeks. With big defenders all over the field, it might be harder than usual for Taylor to find the holes he usually finds by rolling out. I see this game being very close but I like Ambassadors of Quan here to pull the minor upset and get to above .500.

Prediction: Ambassadors of Quan 32, 2HD 31

FPF Fantasy:

Week 5 (Div. B)

Rod Mashtoub (Laval’s Finest) vs. Rob Robinson (VPC & FF) – Robinson is having an awesome year but he just doesn’t have the help that Mashtoub does. In a game that should have shootout written all over it, Give me Mashtoub to come out on top.

Paul Lapierre (Ambassadors of Quan) vs. Marc-Antoine Viens (2HD) – Lapierre has been Alex Holowach’s favourite target this season and I don’t see that changing much against a good, yet small-ish defense in 2HD. Look for the size matchup to be an issue.

Grip N Rip D vs. Fun Boys DGnR does a lot of things well on the defensive side of the ball. They communicate well and are very disciplined. Rusher Phil De Kovachich will be a thorn in Phil Cutler’s behind especially with Cutler’s knack for long-developing plays.

Division A Power Rankings

  1. Montreal’s Finest (4-0)

The Finest doing Finest-like things.

  1. All Black Everything (2-2)

No way were they going to lose three in a row.

  1. Rainmakers (3-1)

Tough loss in a game where they never really were in. They need a statement game against Montreal’s Finest this week. Can they get it?

  1. Monstars (1-3)

Big first win for these guys in impressive fashion.

  1. Top Guns (1-3)

They took the Monstars for granted and it cost them dearly. Now they look to avoid another upset against the Legends.

  1. Legends (1-3)

As Vince Nardone mentioned in the podcast this week, it’s hard to win when three players on the team have played all four games. That being said, losing to the Finest was expected.

Divison B Top 5 Power Rankings

  1. Grip N Rip (4-0)

Key drops that landed directly in GnR defenders’ hands, and a terrible decision by yours truly that led to a pick six on first and goal, along with broken coverages by the Predators made it that much easier on GnR, but make no mistake, they are an awesome team with a great system on both sides of the ball. J-D Chevalier is the best free agent addition in division B.

  1. Star City (4-0)

Are these guys for real? Way too dominant this early in a season. They haven’t even broken a sweat in a game yet.

  1. STL (4-0)

One of three undefeated teams in division B and playing well on both sides of the ball.

  1. Kings (3-1)

They might not be a team you fear, but they’re very good and they’ve shown the knack of being able to win close games.

  1. The Incredibles (3-1)

Short stay off the list, can they remain on it now? Impressive bounceback performance from Greg Stern.

Survivor Pool Week 5 Picks:
