Flo’s Forecast: Week 3 Recap – Week 4 Preview

Week 3 is in the books and it brought plenty of drama. Things got heated in what seems to be a regular occurrence for the Finest/ABE rivalry, we saw some teams getting the first big W’s of the season, some big name players missing games leading to massive blowouts, a quarterback who took advantage of said absences and tossed a ridiculous 9 touchdowns, Simon Dagenais pulling a “Dagenais”, and of course, my team had the ultimate pleasure of crushing Peeze’s team and dreams to go along with it.

All in all, it was quite the eventful week.

Week 3 Recaps:

Div. A

Montreal’s Finest 37, All Black Everything 31

This was a crazy affair. As I stated in the intro, things got heated, and that’s an understatement. After ABE went 4 and out on their first drive, Montreal’s Finest took advantage and went up 12-0. Up 18-6, Alex Apostolakis ran a slant out and got lit up hard by Pat Chenard. Chenard was given a UR (surprisingly not an ejection to ABE’s dismay and lost their cool). Next, Kevin Wyeth ran towards the end zone and although it seemed like he didn’t quite reach the goal line prior to being tackled, and with no chance at a review, it was called a touchdown on the field. At that point, things got ugly fast. Both teams lost it and were in each other’s faces as this football game was looking like it would became a backyard brawl at any given moment. Thankfully, refs from the other fields came in to help to stop the pleasantries. At the end of the game, the scoreboard read 37-31 for the Finest as they stay undefeated, while ABE loses not only a big game to their rival, but also Antonio Lanni for the season with a concussion.

Div. B

Grip N Rip 41, Lightweight 38

Both teams scored six touchdowns and both teams had two turnovers apiece. You hear it a lot but in this case, the converts were the difference in this one. With Lightweight trailing 20-19 at the half but starting with the ball, they punched it in only for GnR to answer right back. It kept going that way until the end of the game. After GnR had scored to make it 41-38, Lightweight had five plays to win the game and knock off the defending champs. Unfortunately for Simon Dagenais and company, it was not to be as GnR held the fort with three downs from inside the red zone to preserve the victory for the guys in green.

Week 4 Previews:

Div. A Game of the Week

All Black Everything (1-2) vs. Rainmakers (3-0)

This is a game where the teams’ records don’t tell the whole story. ABE have lost to the #1 ranked team and lost on a fluke Hail Mary in another game, while the Rainmakers have beat up on the newbies of division A. This game should be close for the most part but even with the Pilons out there, I think the ABE defense will rise to the occasion. Although I can see a scenario where the Rainmakers take this one, I just don’t see ABE losing three in a row.

Prediction: All Black Everything 45, Rainmakers 32

Div. B Game of the Week

Grip N Rip (3-0) vs. Predators (2-1)

Looking at the division B schedule this week, this game jumps out as one that should be possibly the most entertaining with on and off the field storylines. Vinny Gualano has had a fantastic start to the season and now is set to face his old team from last spring with which he won a championship. Both teams will have a lot to prove and I know that the Preds want this game badly, as I’m sure GnR does too. If the Preds hope to slow down GnR’s systemic attack, they’ll need SBB to step up and put some unrelenting pressure on Gualano. Coming off an awesome defensive performance on the back end with three interceptions and nine PD’s, the Preds defense will look to build on that. GnR will need ex-Predator Phil De Kovachich to do much of the same at the rusher position. Friends before the game and after the game, there will no love lost between the two teams on the field.

FPF Fantasy:

Week 4 (Div. A)

Marco Masciotra (ABE) vs. Ryan Kastner (Rainmakers) – After a 1-2 start, I’m sure ABE will come out firing in this game and Masciotra will be looking to put up as many points as he can. Kastner has played extremely well this season but has yet to face a defense like that of ABE’s. The game won’t be a blowout but I do see Marco having the edge here.

Jad Aridi (Monstars) vs. Jonathan Lyristis (Top Guns) – With Rod Mashtoub back this week, I expect the Top Guns to get a large dose of Jad Aridi. Those two have incredible chemistry and Aridi is masterful at creating YAC for himself.

Montreal’s Finest D vs. Legends DSize and experience. Also, Kevin Wyeth isn’t going to make many (if any) errant throws for the Legends to get their hands on the ball.

Division A Power Rankings

  1. Montreal’s Finest (3-0)

Impressive showing against their rival to retain the #1 spot.

  1. All Black Everything (1-2)

They might be 1-2 but this isn’t your typical 1-2 team. This is a team that can still get hot and finish 8-2.

  1. Rainmakers (3-0)

Awesome start to the season for these guys but now comes the hard part of the schedule. We’ll see what they’re made of in the next two weeks.

  1. Top Guns (1-2)

They were able to keep it within a score against the Rainmakers but weren’t able to cash in on another miracle Hail Mary this time.

  1. Legends (1-2)

A nice first win against the Mat Rene-led Monstars.

  1. Monstars (0-3)

Two redzone interceptions sealed their fate as they remain winless. With their quarterback back this week, can they get their first win over Top Guns?

Divison B Top 5 Power Rankings

  1. Grip N Rip (3-0)

“They escaped Lightweight because Simon Dagenais pulled a Dagenais.” – Matt Kirouac

A rivalry game this Sunday vs. the Preds in what is the game of the week in division B.

  1. Star City (3-0)

Laval’s Finest is far from a dominant team without Rod Mashtoub and Jordan McLaren, that much is clear. Still, throwing nine touchdowns in one game is nasty Mr. Lazzara. Star City has won their three games by an AVERAGE of 22 points. They look unstoppable right now.

  1. Laval’s Finest (2-1)

Yes, they got whipped badly by Star City. However, they were missing their top two defenders, one of which also happens to be their quarterback. Not going to overreact here.

  1. STL (3-0)

They knocked the Kings from the unbeaten ranks and looked impressive in doing so.

  1. Predators (2-1)

They dismantled the Darksiders and were one play away from a shutout. Next comes a big test against the #1 team.
