Final Edition of the Report Cards + Week 9 Headlines

Alright, the final edition of the Div 3 report cards is finally here. This week we’re covering A-Team, Bruins, That’s What She Said, Wide Open Bar and Dime and Bougie. I’ll also go over some of the Week 9 highlights and see what’s coming up in Week 10 with my Game Picks. I’ve also put my prediction record so we can start seeing how well or poorly I’m predicting games at so you can tell me how wrong I am or I can tell

Offensive/Defensive Grading Scheme

A: Outstanding offensive/defensive performance. You are the best at your craft and have proven it so far in 5 games. Offensively, you move the ball with ease and if you get stopped once or twice a game, I’m shocked. Defensively, I’m seeing 3-4 stops a game, and you’re averaging 1-2 interceptions a game. You are elite.

B: You are a good offense/defense. Offensively, you can drive the field for the most part, with a few hiccups each game. Because defense is hard, you are getting 1-2 stops a game and that is good in Division 3 where offenses know what they are doing.

C: You are an average/below average offense/defense. Your putting up 20-25 points per game and on defense, you barely get a stop in a given game. Your picks are lucky bounces off receivers hands.

D: You are really struggling on offense/defense. Your concepts don’t work at this level and you need to either revamp the plays or drop down a division.

Overall Grading Scheme

Whereas the Offense/Defense grades are basically saying whether you are good or bad, the Overall Grade is compared to expectations placed on your team relative to the beginning of the season. A “C” grade doesn’t mean you are a bad team, just that

A: Your team has greatly exceeded expectations. You are more likely to get this grade if you are a 3-2 team when you were expected to go 0-5 or 1-4, than a 5-0 team expected to go 5-0.

B: You have a good team, but you’ve slightly surpassed expectations. You either jumped a division and are sitting at 2-3 or so and staying competitive in games.

C: You are meeting expectations. I expected you to be exactly where you are at.

D: Severely under performing! You may have signed up in the wrong division

So without further ado, let’s get the article going!

A-Team (3-1-1)

Offensive Grade: B-

Defensive Grade: A-

Overall Grade: B+

Mid-Season Team MVP: Ashton Thibeault

The team’s strength is without a doubt its defense. Led by defensive captain Dilan Daoust, A-Team has forced 9 turnovers from interceptions so far, with more than half coming from the ever-dangerous Jeremy Rooney, including back-to-back pick 6’s in their past game against Greendale. Those 2 early pick 6’s essentially won them the game, and we’ll be hearing that a lot this season. Not only is their backfield strong, they have 4 guys with at least 2 sacks. Charles Olivier Vachon is the team’s all-around defensive stud, leading the team with 5 sacks and 2 PDs as a rusher. If he needs a rest from rushing, the team has the most depth at rusher, where they can send Andrew Grant, Laurent Foucault or Devin Daoust, depending on their stamina and the different style of QB. The team’s offense has put up 131 points in 5 games (after removing the 12 points from pick 6’s) averaging 26 points per game, which is alright, but the offense hasn’t put up more than 29 offensive points in a game. The D is so good that it is enough for them to win games, but they may meet their match if trying to go score for score in an offensive shootout.

Bruins (5-0)

Offensive Grade: A

Defensive Grade: B+

Overall Grade: A

Mid-Season Team MVP: Kristopher Verreault

This might be one of the only A grades I give. I knew the team would be very good, but they have now proven themselves as one of the legitimate contenders in Division 3, absolutely tearing teams apart like a good Bruin. Kris Verreault has been at the forefront of the offense, with 24 TD’s and just 1 INT in 4 games played. I don’t know what’s wilder, his 6 TD average, or his lowest QBR being 124.8. His game has gone to another another level in a single calendar year and Division 3 defenses are the victims of it. The offense has been evenly spread out 6 receivers deep. The receivers have a great mix of size, speed, shiftiness, great hands and clutch ability, making them one of the scariest offenses in the division, and they’ve shown that, averaging 38.6 points per game. Defensively, they don’t need to be exceptional with the offense rolling the way it is. With a single turnover in the game, they give themselves an 85% chance of winning games, and they’ve done that, forcing 6 turnovers and batting down another 19 balls, combined with Gab Wiseman’s 4 sacks. Averaging 25 points against in Division 3 is great, and like I said, with the offense scoring with ease, it’s no wonder they are sitting at 5-0.

That’s What She Said (3-2)

Offensive Grade: C+

Defensive Grade: B

Overall Grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Mike Pierrecin

I’m not too sure how to evaluate That’s What She Said. If you asked people, some would say they made the finals in Div 3 last winter and therefore a top dog in the division. If you followed their 2023 season, they had a tough Fall Cup with little success. Offensively, Leandre Ethier is moving the football down the field, averaging just under 200 yards per game, but has a 2:1 TD-to-INT ratio. It suggests he’s throwing picks in the redzone where it gets more congested, but also throwing INT’s early in games and getting garbage-time yards and TDs. Defensively, allowing 26 points is good for Division 3, but when the offense is only averaging 1 more point than your D, you’re playing with fire in close games. Looking at their schedule though, their 3 wins have come against teams that are a combined 1-16. That is worrisome in my opinion, with a harder back half of the schedule where they might go 1-4. They will definitely need to find that Winter 2023 magic if they want to be successful this time around.

Wide Open Bar (1-4)

Offensive Grade: C

Defensive Grade: C

Overall Grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Philippe Leroux

Not gonna lie, seeing Wide Open Bar in Div 3 surprised me. I saw they added my boy Charles Verreault, but even with him, the roster, cap-wise could have fit in Div 4. With a rating adjustment for QB Jean Lussier, Div 4 is where I would have seen this team be more competitive. I’ll give them kudos for giving their all so far, as 2 of their losses have been by a single point, and they got a great win over Les Gros Coqs, and that was without Mr. Verreault! I think this team is going to look back at the two 1-point losses in April and may want a play or two back, because it might cost them a playoff spot. Jean Lussier is moving the ball, with just under 1000 passing yards in 5 games, but 13 INTs is just too high to win games. When Jean is on though, he does have the weapons with both Philippe and Édouard Leroux leading the team in yards, the shifty Louis Lussier and of course the ever hard-to-tackle CV4. So don’t be fooled and take the team lightly, or they will put 35 on you and find yourself in a close game.

Dime and Bougie 3-1-1

Offensive Grade: B-

Defensive Grade: A

Overall Grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jerome Hovington

Has there been a team that has been more Jekyll and Hyde than Dime and Bougie? It’s a team that is leaving more questions than answers. Is Jules Regimbald having a good season with a 110.8 QBR, but with 13 TDs, 10 sacks and 577 yards in 4 games? Is Oriola Poirier truly on the roster? Is there a QB controversy with Felix Boutet getting a big win over Beer Belly? Obviously Boutet is better opted at receiver, but the questions are growing for D&B when they were supposed to continuously grow and be a legit contender. If and when everyone on the team performs at their best, they are scary, with a great mix of speed, size, height and hands. Right now, and especially their last game, the defense has held their end of the bargain, making sure they’ve been in every game, but how long can they last while the offense gets going. It will be another week without Jules, who looks like he needs to regain his confidence because when he’s free flowing and having fun is when he’s playing his best. Making playoffs shouldn’t be a problem, but they have a nice last game of the season against a powerhouse in Lightweight. There could be fireworks that game if both teams are ready rolling on all cylinders into the playoffs.

Week 9 Headlines

  • Remember, the 4 Group Winners take the Top 4 seeds in the Division! Go win that Group at all costs!
  • The Infantry are starting to heat up, with 91 points scored in their 2-game win streak. Last game they didn’t have Zack Stacey and were still able score at will with Sean Semerjian at QB.
  • Simon Dagenais for QBOY? I think so, but Kris Verreault might have something to say about that!
  • Felix Boutet got his first career start in Div 3 and did not disappoint, going 14/19 for 115 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs, an adding another 34 rushing yards on the ground, leading Dime and Bougie to a much needed victory when they didn’t have high hopes for one with starting QB Jules Regimbald.
  • Jordan Mitchell is starting to get a good balance of run and pass and has the Blue Chips offense getting better week in and week out. From Week 1 ’till now, he’s got the offense rolling and you’ll often find yourself in a shootout against this team. Get ready for points!
  • Air Force 1 also got a much needed big W over the lowly Speed Academy to boost their confidence.
  • Don’t look now, but Minions of Migdesyan have strung together 2 impressive defensive performances in a row, and the offense put up 30 again and are now sitting at 3-3 after the 1-3 start.
  • James Drysdale is your touchdown leader after Week 9 with 12 TDs
  • Lightweight made a statement with a big win over Kiss my Inlaws on Monday night. Now the Simon Dagenais has the 0 INT distraction out of the way, he and the team will concentrate on simply winning games by outscoring you.
  • I think the entire Division is thinking the same thing: What is up with Dirty Birds? Give credit to Arouch with a convincing 41-12 win over them, but somethings up with DB and they gotta turn it around quick!
  • It shouldn’t be that surprising, but Alex Joltopuf already has a whopping 84 targets this season! Dang!
  • No team has 2 receivers in the Top 10 Leaders in Yards, TDs or Receptions. Each of those Top 10 lists have receivers from 10 different teams. Love the offensive spread.
  • Man…. The BrotherHood is 4-1 with 111 points for. That doesn’t seem sustainable. The defense is good. Very good. Elite even. But the offense will need to start racking up the points to be considered a true threat.
  • Mongoose is now on a 3-game winning streak after starting the season 0-3. Someone’s heating up!🔥
  • With his 2 pick 6’s on Wednesday night, Jeremy Rooney has entered the race to catch Etienne Laurence-Gervais for DPOY.
  • I’ve got 2 games that caught my eye; one’s I think will be fantastic: Bruins vs. The Infantry and low-key, Minions of Midgesyan vs. Arouch. Very interested to see the outcome of these game and will watch if I can!
