Division E Power Rankings

Welcome back! I apologize for the delay; I had a very busy week and couldn’t finish the article. Another article will come in the middle of the week. I have ranked and put in different ties every squad in division E, and my report cards will be coming by hopefully Wednesday.

S Tier

This is my contender tier, these teams should all make the semi-finals, and the winner of the division should be in this tier.

1. Not You Too?

Will they go undefeated?

It’s no question that this young team is full of talent and bring a creative game to the table. Using a lot of double QB plays and blowing teams out, they are solid on both sides of the ball, giving up few turnovers and racking them up on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t think any team will be able to defeat them. FSU is going to be their toughest matchup in the regular season (Week 10), but I believe Not You Too will be the team to come out on top. They were not very convincing in their win against Pasta Arrabiat though, and that suggests that this division is wide open, and any of the teams in the top 8 could beat each other. They just lost this morning 37-0 against Cover 3 Inches Long, but without William Leclerc, Kaiden Dewey-Hull and Jamil Springer, so I will let that one slide.

2. Minchia FT

What happened against Primetime??? Primetime is a solid squad, I have praised Matthew Cadogan on multiple occasions, but he made light work of Minchia FT’s defense, which had been nothing short of great. Minchia FT’s offense was a bit suspicious in their first 3 games, but they then went on to score 108 points in games 4 and 5, while only allowing 24 points. I’m going to call this game a one-off and keep Minchia FT in the number 2 spot, because I have perhaps underestimated how good Primetime is.

3. FSU

Will they find a way to put up more points against better teams? FSU’s competition so far hasn’t been great, and they haven’t really been able to blow out any team, except Timberwolves. They beat the 0-3-1 Satriales by only 8 points, and only beat the 1-4 Ramphins by 7. Their most convincing win was against Hail Marty’s with a score of 32-20. Marty Freedman struggled in that game, throwing 4 interceptions. FSU only has 1 receiver with over 100 yards in 5 games (Alejandro Fonte), and therefore I don’t see them beating teams like Not You Too or Minchia FT.

A tier

This is my pretender tier, teams that are perhaps just one piece away, or have too many flaws in their game that could be exposed by the top teams.

4. Show Me Dem TDies

Will Daniel Caruana’s struggles protecting the ball catch up to them in the long run? Caruana is throwing 2 interceptions per game on average, and while they are averaging 28.2 points per game, a lot of that comes from their great defense (17 interceptions including 4 pick-6s). Their offense was lackluster against Not You Too?, and it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to compensate their offensive turnovers against some of the best QBs in the division.

5. Hail Marty’s

Will Marty Freedman turn it around? The inexperience at QB might have caught up to Freedman. His performance against FSU was shocking (3TDs and 4 INTs). I had him as a top contender for QB of the year, but his recent game has raised many questions. Freedman defaulted to Brandon Vickers in the loss, but the rest of the squad was only okay at best. Their defense is not good enough for it to win them games alone (the team has only racked up 5 interceptions so far). This team will need Marty Freedman at his best in the playoffs, or else their season could be cut short. A 13-point win against WHO D’EH cements them in the top 5 for now.

6. WHO D’EH

Where are the yards? Tom Gatehouse has only averaged around 130 yards passing per game. While he has limited the turnovers, and this has converted into wins, he’s only averaging a little over 12 passes completed per game, which is not enough. The slow offensive pace of this team might cost them eventually, and it surely did against Meat Lovers. Gatehouse threw 0 interceptions, and yet the game ended in a tie. All he had to show was 99 yards. I doubt this team will go far unless they start putting up more points on the board. Gatehouse struggled against Hail Marty’s, throwing 2 interceptions and only 2 TDs. It seems their slow pace actually got them in this one, and the two turnovers were too much to overcome.

7. Pasta Arrabiat

What is this team without Joe Morgese? Their only loss of the season before Not You Too came against OnlyFlags, and they got blown out, but Joe Morgese was not playing. In the two actual games he’s played, Morgese has 158 yards, 6 TDS and 4 interceptions. He has really put himself in a good position to win an award if he can follow up on those performances. While Matthew Vertullo has been solid, he might not be a main guy, only scoring 2 TDs in 3 games. If a team can shut down Morgese, I don’t expect Pasta Arrabiat to go very far if a team can shut him down, but will a team be able to stop him? With their recent game against Not You Too, in which they lost 25-24, Morgese was again solid, collecting 81 yards and 3 TDs. This result might have tempted me to put them higher, but I still have my doubts. Although, I suspect this team might climb up the rankings if Morgese keeps following on his dominant run.

B tier

This is my middle of the pack tier, teams that are solid, but usually lack elite QB play and offensive prowess.

8. Meat lovers

Can this team be more than average? Manny Bizogias had thrown 11 TDs and 11 interceptions prior to the game against OnlyFlags, the team only has 6 interceptions on defense, and yet they sat at 2-1-1 with two decent performances against FSU and WHO D’EH. In my opinion they are just a middle of the pack team who is gonna have some nice results here and there and then perhaps pull off an upset in the playoffs but won’t go very far. Their game against OnlyFlags was an interesting case, as Manny Bizogias threw 5TDs and 0 interceptions, and the team put up 37 points on the board. This is an encouraging sign, but OnlyFlags is not one of the best teams in the division.

9. Primetime

Was the game against Minchia FT a fluke? I think I’m underestimating Primetime by putting them at 9 on the Power Rankings, considering they have played some very good teams so far, but they lost (Show Me Dem TDies and Cover 3 Inches Long). Matthew Cadogan did not throw against Show Me Dem TDies, but he played bad against Cover 3 Inches Long. His game against Minchia FT was not perfect, his defense helped him a lot (2 pick 6s), but he was clinical throwing 5 TDs and only 1 interception, against one if not the best defense in the division. With an easy schedule for the remainder of the season, I expect them to finish 7-3, and climb up these rankings.

10. Cover 3 Inches Long

Is Fabrice Tremblay good enough? He plays well against bad defenses but struggles against good ones. He had one of the worst throwing games I’ve seen against Pasta Arrabiat, with a 2.8 QB rating (no, not a typo). When a team puts up 0 points, I usually assume the QB was out, but not in this case. Fabrice simply had a bad game. William Seguin only had 1 target, which is unacceptable. The team barely edged out an inferior Area 69, although Tremblay played solidly. His inconsistencies at QB might be the downfall of this team come postseason.

11. OnlyFlags

Can George Spano do well against good defenses? He played very well against Pasta Arrabiat (without Joe Morgese), Tex4s Chooches and Les Habitations BR, but struggled a lot against Minchia FT. His counting stats look good, he spreads the ball well and doesn’t throw many picks, but he has only done so against subpar teams. I have my doubts about whether he’ll be good enough to take his team to victories against the teams above his. Their defense is solid, led by Zachary Mastromonaco, but the QBs they have faced aren’t great. Spano played well against Meat Lovers, but his 3 interceptions cost them the game.

12. Trailer Park Boys

Okay, so Trailer Park Boys are better than the 12th best team in the division. They are 2-3-1 now, but they forfeit twice, so their actual record is 2-1-1. They tied Timberwolves, which is a terrible result for them, but they beat Area 69, Les Habitations BR, and only lost by 5 points to FSU. I think this team is solid, probably better than some teams ranked above them, but the two forfeits made me want to put them lower. The uncertainty of if this team is even going to show up is not a good look and speaks volume as to how serious this team is. I think they’ll do decent for the rest of the season, but crash and burn come playoff time.

C tier

This tier is for teams that are usually new and have shown some promise, but a lack of experience and chemistry.

13. Area 69

There isn’t much going for Area 69 right now.  Michael de Seta has been good at spreading the ball but struggled at protecting it. The team racks up a lot of interceptions but struggles to finish games on top. 2 ties against subpar teams, and close losses to teams ranked above them. I look at this team, and I see a lot of inexperience. They could have beaten Cover 3 Inches Long if they did better on converts. They only have 5 successful converts after 6 games, and more success on those could mean they could be 3-2-1 instead of 1-3-2. The team is decent, but it just needs to find ways to win, whether that be clock management, or being more successful on converts.

14. Bend Don’t Break

The team sits at 2-2, with 57 points for, and 51 points against. All their games have been low score affairs, and their only game against an S or A tier team was a 32-6 blowout loss against WHO D’EH. Their 2 wins have come against D tier teams. In order to win in flag, you need to be able to put points on the board, and this team has less points per game than every single team in C tier or above. Somehow, they sit at a +6 differential, and they have a .500 record. The team is not great offensively, but it stays in games by causing turnovers. I don’t see them beating any team ranked above them, and I suspect they will get overtaken by the other teams in C tier.

15. Ramphins

Ramphins are the most intriguing team in the division in my opinion. They are 1-4 yet have a -2 differential. They have yet to lose a game by more than one possession, and they have done so against some of the top teams (FSU, C3IL, Hail Marty’s, Show Me Dem TDies). They have faced very tough competition, and they beat fellow C tier team Satriales convincingly. All 3 Dumeignil’s have been playing well, and they are better than the 15th team in the division undoubtably when it comes to talent, but they simply haven’t been able to win. I think they will beat OnlyFlags tonight and will justify being moved up to the B tier. The rest of their schedule is more favorable than what it has been, and it will be interesting to see if they’ll be able to finally find ways to finish games with the W.

16. Les Habitations BR

After their first 2 games, I had Les Habitations BR as one of the top teams in the division, and Benoit Robidoux had really impressed me with his ability to protect the ball. I mentioned in a past article that Robidoux seemed like a new QB, and not the turnover prone QB he used to be. Perhaps I was wrong. Since then, he has thrown 3TDs and 8 interceptions, and seems to have fallen back to his old habits. I doubt he’ll be able to turn it around, and this team will probably barely make the playoffs and probably get eliminated in the first round.

17. Satriales

George Kalavritinos has now taken over for Mario Palmieri at QB and it seems to have unlocked Satriales’s offense who have scored 33 and 32 points in their past 2 games. I expected more from this squad considering Raff Morelli is on the roster, but there are just too many inexperienced players. This team has talent and potential, but the first season all playing together can always be rough, and considering that, Satriales have done well. The rest of their schedule is very difficult, and I doubt they’ll even win another game this season.

D tier

The teams in this tier are the new teams that are trying to figure out the game and will most likely miss the playoffs or get blown out in the first round.

18. Texas Whales

The now 1-6 Texas Whales have struggled all season. Her only win came against Grand Daddy Purp, and they have lost to lower-ranked Bloodline. Chazz Pisanelli has been their best receiver, but he has only shown up to 4 of the team’s 7 games. At QB, both Vaugh Vanslet and Tyler Cousins have struggled. The team also only averages 1 interception per game, in a division where the interception numbers are very high. I don’t see this team making the playoffs unless they beat Tex4s Chooches or Les Habitations BR, and I doubt it’ll happen.

19. Tex4s Chooches

The Chooches are 1-6, have only scored 82 points, and have allowed 175 points. Giuliano Di Nardo has 9 TD passes and 11 Interceptions. The team has racked up only 7 interceptions in 7 games. Needless to say things haven’t been going particularly well, and they must now win one of their last 3 games if they want to secure a playoff spot. They are in a similar situation as the other Texas team, as they need to beat Les Habitations BR or Texas Whales. I think they’ll beat the Chooches in the battle of Texas in Week 10 and secure their spot.

20. Bloodline

Their win against Texas Whales was huge and will probably allow them to make the playoffs. One of the worst defensive teams in Div E, they have only picked off the opposing quarterback twice all season. Minchia FT, which are not known for their offense, scored 60 points on them. Nathan Duguay is their only player with over 1 touchdown, and Eric Boisvert and Duguay are the only two players on this team who can generate anything potent offensively. I don’t see a lot of promise for this team, and their game coming up against Timberwolves is the only potential win I see on their remaining schedule.

21. Timberwolves

0-4-1, 38 points for, 166 points against is not good. Their surprising tie against Trailer Park Boys was nice to see, but the truth is they scored more points in that game than the rest of the season. The team only has 5 offensive touchdowns in 5 games, and 0 converts. Only Jimmy-Lee Janvier has done anything noteworthy on offense, and I don’t see that changing. Their game against Bloodline is critical, and a loss probably means their playoff hopes will be over.

22. Grand Daddy Purp

0-6, 41 points for and 211 points against is somehow even worse than Timberwolves. They only have 4 games remaining, and they are still yet to have a permanent QB. I suggested Miguel Berlie try out at QB, but it did not go great. There is not much hope left, and the rest of their schedule is not easy. Unfortunately, they probably will go 0-10.

This is it for this article, I hope you guys enjoyed the read. Mid-season report cards will come during the week.
