Division A: Week 11 with Playoff Implications

Hey everyone, hope you all have had a great week with the great weather. For the past few weeks, we have talked about individual awards heavily and I will give my final award predictions later once all the stats are in. For this article, it’s the final week of the regular season and with 3 games being played on Sunday in Laval, there’s huge implications for nearly every team. I will go through each matchup and give my prediction on how things will play out.

Week 10 Recap:

One Stop – PartyCrashers
Game Info:
Saturday August 2, 2pm, Laval
Final Score: One Stop 18 – PartyCrashers 30
This game was rescheduled due to the rain a few weeks ago and ParryCrashers took care of business. Jeanslee Alexis threw 5 TDs without any interceptions to five different receivers. Ezechiel Tieide led the way on offence and for good reason as he was able to use his speed for various deep plays. For OneStop, missing their top guys such as Jahnai Lewis, Charles Cossette and Ryan McNally made it much difficult. Redbird DB Paul Pellet stepped up and had 2 of the 3 TDs Michael Caparelli threw. With this loss, One Stop knocks out Vultures out of playoff contention and now with all 6 teams clinched, it’s all about who’s getting the 2nd bye and quarterfinal matchups.

Week 11 Overview:

The Jamesons – Braves
Game Info:
Sunday August 3, 3pm, Laval
Prediction: The Jamesons 38 – Braves 42
For Braves, they have locked up the bye with the one seed. At this point, they are playing for an undefeated regular season and for stats. Jonathan Maheu already has QB of the Year locked and James Drysdale will be looking to improve his award chances if he plays. They do need William Trottier, Jeremy Murphy and Isiah Allard to play to be playoff eligible. For The Jamesons, it’s a tight race for positioning and a playoff bye. They are currently in a 5-team-tie for 2nd place but the tie breaker isn’t in their favour. They would also need Tyson Copeland and Mike Zenobi to play in order to be playoff eligible. It was only a 2pt game for Braves last time they played and if Braves decides to rest their guys for playoffs, The Jamesons do have a good shot in pulling the upset and with some luck, can get a bye. I do think Maheu will play (maybe not the whole game) and Braves will look at getting a perfect 6v6 regular season.

Idaho Udapimps – PartyCrashers
Game Info:
Sunday August 3, 5pm, Laval
Prediction: Idaho Udapimps 36 – Party Crashers 26
Following their victory over One Stop, PartyCrashers are back on the field against Idaho Udapimps. They also hold the huge tiebreaker for the second first round bye. Jordan McLaren and Jourdain Alexis would need to suit up to be playoff eligible. Idaho Udapimps won the close 32-30 contest in Week 2. For Idaho, only playoff eligible player that’s in question is Will Power and that can be huge if Brady Ohanessian can’t throw for any reason come playoff time. This is a contest between two very athletic and offence-forcused teams. The game will be physical and both QBs will look at stretching the field. Idaho needs to take care of the ball and limit 4th down stops. Felix Boutet and Jerome Hovington need to have big games to help Ohanessian limit those errors. On defence, a huge takeaway can change momentum. For PartyCrashers, it depends on who’s present. Training camp has started and guys like Mendel Joseph and Emerson Peterkin were both not at their game yesterday. Jeanslee Alexis needs to protect the ball. He has the ability to use his legs, if healthy, not only to gain yards but to buy time and get his players behind Idaho’s defenders. With that being said, I think this will be a close game until the final 8 minutes with Idaho Udapimps pulling away late.

Vultures – The Infantry
Game Info:
Sunday August 3, 10pm, Laval
Prediction: Vultures 36 – The Infantry 40
For the final game of the regular season, there really isn’t much playoff implications compared to the previous one. For The Infantry, they can’t secure a bye to both Idaho Udapimps and PartyCrashers holding the tie breaker. The actual only way The Infantry can get a bye is if they win against Vultures, Braves beat The Jamesons, and PartyCrashers and Idaho ends in a tie. It’s still a possible scenario but unlikely. For Vultures, the end of the season is here and it’s unfortunate as due to the Senior Flag National Championships, a forfeit to One Stop, prevented this game to have much greater playoff implications. For them, it’s game 10 and to play spoiler while having fun. Ben McMahon, Anthony Drysdale and Kevin Donnet have been the engine on offence. Unfortunately, not having the defensive fire power as several other Division A teams resulted in Vultures allowing the most points this season. For The Infantry, there’s noone that needs to play this game for playoff eligibility and it’s rather playing for what matchup they get and pride. By the time they play tonight, they will know their fate to a certain extend. As this is the final flag game of the season, I expect nothing but excitement and a great amount of yards from both Kevin Wyeth and McMahon. Last game between these 2 teams was a close victory for The Infantry and I do think if both teams are at their best, The Infantry will win another close matchup.
