Division A: Quarterfinals Overview

Hey everyone, another regular season has concluded! These 11 weeks have passed quick and now with a few more weeks until the Spring 2025 season wraps up, the playoffs are ready to begin. I want to thank all that would read these articles as it’s my first time writing for FPF so I hope I gave good content and will look to improve with writing in future season. With the quarterfinals starting tomorrow night, we have 4 teams in action, 2 on bye and one eliminated. Before we get into the highly anticipated quarterfinals matchups, let’s recap the final week of the regular season.

Week 11 Recap

The Jamesons – Braves
Game Info: Sunday August 3, 3pm, Laval
Prediction: The Jamesons 38 – Braves 42
Results: The Jamesons 14 – Braves 55
The Braves already locked the bye but a 41 point blowout victory was a statement to the rest of the division that they are the team to beat in case there was any doubts. By taking a commanding 30-0 lead at the break, there was no signs of slowing down. James Drysdale and Gabriel-Charles Champagne was on the receiving end of 2 TDs each from Jonathan Maheu and the defence picked off Jeff Rosenblatt 3 times, two of them returned for a TD. It was a rough day in the office for The Jamesons considering that they had a solid roster at the game and Anthony Brisebois seemed to be the only receiver connecting with Rosenblatt with 2 TDs on 11 receptions. The Jamesons can now put this game in the rearview and focus on the quarterfinals where anything can happen.

Idaho Udapimps – PartyCrashers
Game Info:
Sunday August 3, 5pm, Laval
Prediction: Idaho Udapimps 36 – Party Crashers 26
Results: Idaho Udapimps 43 – PartyCrashers 40
A high powered offensive battle pushed Idaho Udapimps to a victory Sunday afternoon. A 3 point game may look like the game came down to the wire but Idaho Udapimps had a 15pt lead in pro-clock and with the successful onside, made the game closer than what it was. Brady Ohanessian would have 200yds on only 10 completions, showing his ability to make long plays without any interceptions. Marvin Steinberg was a two-way star in this one with 2 TDs on offence and a pick-6 on defence. The Idaho defence was big as not only Steinberg would get a pick-6 but Ohanessian would get one of his own. The difference in this game was the converts and an early sack by Boutet that would result in a safety. For PartyCrashers, Emerson Peterkin and Mendel Joseph led the way and if PartyCrashers want to make a championship run, these two will have to play big roles and have a good supporting cast around the QB play of Jeanslee Alexis.

Vultures – The Infantry
Game Info: Sunday August 3, 10pm, Laval
Prediction: Vultures 36 – The Infantry 40
Results: Vultures 26 – The Infantry 49
With Idaho winning earlier, The Infantry had control of their destiny as a victory would result in them obtaining a first round bye and that’s what happened. Vultures had difficulties putting a team together as several players were unavailable so Ben McMahon would reach out to talented friends in FPF in Emma Townsend-Asselin and Lory Ouellette, two of the top women in both co-ed and women’s division to be toe-to-toe with the best male athletes in FPF. With nothing to lose, the score at half with no subs for Vultures was tied at 20 with Alexandre Szalipszki and Anthony Drysdale leading the offence. The parade would run out as Kevin Wyeth and company would push on the gas petal and outscore Vultures 29-6 in the second half, ensuring the 1st round bye. Outside of a first possession interception thrown by Wyeth, he played clinically with 7 TDs and even an INT of defence which got his team hyped. The Infantry got what they came for in this game and will get the bye. For Vultures, a jump into Division A from Division 2 was no easy journey. They might be on the outside looking in but with a solid season at QB from McMahon, adding some bigger pieces in the future with the foundation that they have which include Anthony Drysdale and Kevin Donnet can be what Vultures need to compete even more in the future with the best in FPF.

Quarterfinals Overview

One Stop – PartyCrashers
Game Info:
Sunday August 10, 9:15pm, Brossard (field 3)

At my mid-season review, I predicted One Stop to finish 2-8 and they finished the season with a 4-6 record. I had made my predictions based on the first half of the season but One Stop played with purpose and maybe I shouldn’t of gone against the guys I would watch at Vanier in Jahnai Lewis and Ryan McNally. Michael Caparelli loves stretching the field and in his final 4 games, averaged over 240yds per game. With the McGill Football Team in training camp, the big question is if the McGill guys will be tired when they are on the field Sunday night. Having Charles Cossette and AJ Zeppetelli are two great receivers who play different styles and PartyCrashers will have their hands full with those two on the field. One Stop will have to find a way to create turnovers as they don’t have a ball hawk like Joseph so any takeaway or 4th down stop will be crucial.

PartyCrashers comes into this matchup after a 4-6 regular season. This team has a +/- of +46 even with the losing record, with only one loss being more than 6 points. If they found a way to change these one score games, they could’ve easily had a bye. Jeanslee Alexis will need to avoid turnovers as 12 INTs does cause some concerns. If Emerson Peterkin and Mendel Joseph are suited up, I expect both to take the bulk of the offensive totals and will have One Stop having to pay extra close to them. On defence, Francois Hogue can be a game changer as rusher as Michael Caparelli leads the division in sacks taken. If Joseph isn’t present however, who will step up on the defensive end as no one has more than 1 INT than the presumably DPOY?

These two teams only played once this past season and it was in Week 11 where PartyCrashers won 30-18. Even though this game was just a week ago, One Stop was missing nearly everyone in the lineup and lost by 12. PartyCrashers were also without both Peterkin and Joseph so who knows how this game would’ve ended. Both teams will need to find a way to extend drives on offence and also find a way to make takeaways on defence. Will Caparelli have all his weapons playing at full strength? He didn’t play poorly in Week 11 but without his top guys, there’s only so much he can do especially for playoffs without his guys. Can PartyCrashers win this game if it comes down to the wire? Jeanslee Alexis has had several clutch moments in his FPF career but this Div A squad hasn’t done so well in close games. If Peterkin and Joseph are both there, I can’t count PartyCrashers out. If both teams are at full strength, I will take PartyCrashers based on their experience and guys in FPF who have been in these situations before.

Prediction: One Stop 28 – PartyCrashers 34

Idaho Udapimps – The Jamesons
Game Info:
Sunday August 10, 10:15pm, Brossard (field 3)

At the mid-point, I predicted Idaho to finish 5-5 and that’s how they finished. There wasn’t much questions on the offensive side of the ball as there’s almost too much talent for Ohanessian to pass around. From Steinberg, Sanders Armand, Felix Boutet, Jerome Hovington, Manu Allard-Roy and Danick Coulombe, anyone can be the top receiver any given night. With 38 TDs in 8 games under center, Ohanessian has done a solid job with the talent that Idaho Udapimps have. With all the star power on one side of the ball, these players mentioned are defensive stars too. As much as their offence can score with anyone, their defence will need to step up and they have had bright stops during the season with 4 TDs on defence. Allowing basically 35pts a game is high but if Idaho can get more stops on that side of the ball, opponents will have to work extra hard especially when Idaho has the ball.

The Jamesons finished with a 4-6 record which I predicted a 5-5 record. My biggest concern was availability for this team which by the end of the season, only 4 players played more than 6 games and as much as these Division A players are talented, chemistry is important which this team seems to struggle with this season. A lot of their players have played together in past years and maybe this team can go back to old ways come playoffs. Anthony Brisebois was my MVP of this team and he finished as the number 1 target for Rosenblatt. For defence, they have one of the weaker defences as they have the least amount of sacks, interceptions and also allow 37+ points. They have ballers and if everyone on the field can turn the switch and have the chemistry that they are currently missing, they can be a team to make some noise starting with this game with Idaho Udapimps.

This is the rubber match as these teams will be playing for the 3rd time this season and each time has won once. The Jamesons won the first matchup in Week 4 in a 38-44 shootout. Rosenblatt played great with 7 TDs and credit for The Jamesons for winning against the roster in front of them but Ohanessian wasn’t playing. In the Week 7 rematch, Idaho Udapimps would be victorious by a score of 30-12. Again, won’t take credit from a win but Ohanessian wasn’t playing QB once again and The Jamesons were without Jordan Panetta which makes a big difference on both sides of the ball. At the end of the day, both teams haven’t played against one another at full strength but on Sunday, it doesn’t matter except for who is on the field at 10:15pm in Brossard. Which defence will show up for Idaho Udapimps? Will it be the one where they can pick off Rosenblatt and return it for a pick-6 or the one that will give up a big play and self-destruct from within? Will Rosenblatt have his trusted receivers such as Brisebois, Panetta, among others? How will The Jamesons defend against the all around offensive lineup in Idaho Udapimps? Even if Ohanessian hasn’t played a QB snap against The Jamesons, I trust the team around him more due to both the talent and consistency that their team plays with one another and in playoffs, it’s hard to see teams even in Division A to build chemistry in a short amount of time.

Prediction: Idaho Udapimps 38 – The Jamesons 24
