Division 6: Final Four

The Final Four (Div 6)

By Paolo Della Rocca

Just one more week before the FPF finals.  The roadshow has become an amazing extravaganza.  For those who are unaware, we set up for hours in advance to create the appropriate atmosphere.  In a few short days, players will enter the Bell complex in Brossard beneath the shadow of the FPF championship trophies, with fans filling the stands, FPF media members in the broadcast booth, it truly is a spectacle like no other.  At least like no other in recreational sports.

Soon the season’s stories will be told.  Champions will be crowned and Championship player of the game trophies will be handed out.  The games will be viewed and recorded and watched as a piece of FPF history unfolds.  Good luck too all in their final four matchups.

Sporstcentre With No Highlights…Also some other stuff

  • Matthew Zoltak completed only 6 passes in Sticknmovers 25-12 loss to Vick in a Box.
  • Fighting Flamingos intercepted Bruin’s Gab Wiseman 7 times.  Troy Lendvay had 3 of those interception.  I guess Antoine Kraft-Clouthier was slacking with his 2 ints.
  • So, I am not one for hot takes.  However, looking at Loyola and Michagan’s baskeball teams as compared to Villanova and Kansas makes me believe we have a champion already. Nova looks the part. If Loyola got to the Final their baseline double team D would have looked about as quick as Sister Jean does running the 40.
  • Joe Marziliano dropped 2 SHOULD be interceptions in Pension Plan’s game against The U. Both came on the last drive and they ended up settiing up the score that would lead to the game timing score.  Oddly, Anthony Siggia, attempting to knock down a ball on 4th down saw his ball caught by a U receiver who was in the right place at the right time.  The game was won by an OT score of 3-2 by the U.  The final score of this game saw Pension Plan losing 27-26.
  • Reportedly, Jesus had his last supper before heading to the Olive Garden.  Even he knew that sh*t was terrible. Eating in advance…veteran move!
  • Zach Jauniaux had a rough outing and finally looked like a rookie quarterback.  His 5 interceptions and 3 yards rushing was due to rusher extraordinaire Andrew Knopp for Practice Squad. Ryan Castiel did the bulk of the damage as he picked off 4 errant passes
  • Gabriel Wiseman chose the worst time to throw 7 ints for the first time in his career.  His previous high was 5 against the Longhorns on May 26, 2013.
  • The non fleet of foot Daniel Pisatauro had the game sealing interception for Vick in a Box against Sticknmovers.
  • Pension Plan double rushed a ton against The U’s Evan Frank.  It worked well fro a while but they could never seem to cover Kyle Pedvis who had a 9 cagch, 73 yard and 1 int performance.
  • Season 12 of Trailer Park boys had me smiling throughout.  Watching Jon Dunsworth’s epilogue had me teary eyed.
  • Ryan Castiel was a stud for Practice Squad.  In addition to his 4 interceptions he also scored three touchdowns.  Mike Knopp also caught a touchdown on 7 catches.  Mike Knopp, has been in the shadow of his brother all season.  He insisted he would KNOPP be forgotten.  See what I did there?

Vick in a Box vs. The U

Vick in the Box won their last matchup against The U with relative ease.  Style Trudeau took a moment to come to terms with the U’s defence but was soon moving the ball well and taking advantage of the good field position and had an effective offensive game.  Defensively, VIB held the U to 83 yards passing.  A lot of that had to do with Ismail Fracillon as the team rusher.

I think Fracillon will have the biggest impact on the outcome of this game.  Evan Frank is a great mobil quarterback.  When he’s at his best the U offence is humming and they are a team that can score against anyone.  However, last time around Ismail Fracillon left Evan Frank in check.  When Frank can’t move around in the pocket he has trouble moving the ball (as as witnessed in their last matchup (Frank had 7 completed passes all game).  In the end, if Evan Frank comes in with a quick passing game where he gets Matt Litwin, Mickey and Russell Schwartz in space, this will help keep the ball away from Vick in a Box and is the best solution to keeping Max Burah in check as no defence has truly been able to do so this season.

Prediction: Vick in a Box 31-The U 20

Fighting Flamingos vs. Practice Squad

Fighting Flamingos are coming into this one hot.  In the previous round. Troy Lendvay paced the defence with 3 of the 7 interceptions that Fighting Flamingos recorded in this game.  However, the benefit for Practice Squad is that Fighting Flamingos haven’t seen them specifically.  Stephen Harripersaud is great.  However, saying he is tall would be as bold faced a lie as I can muster.  Harripersaud is one of the shorter quarterbacks in the division.  Andrew Knopp has been a monster all season and has sacked his way and distorted so many throwing lanes.

In order to manage the monster that is Andrew Knopp, Harripersaud will need to move the pocket and use sideline floods that are difficult to cover for any defense. Shayne Feinberg has thrown 3 interceptions in each of his two post season games.  Fighting Flamingos are not a team against which you can expect to make mistakes and get away with it.  Ryan Castiel has led the way for Practice Squad’s offense.  He has 5 touchdowns during the playoffs and is second in receiving touchdowns (second to FF’s Myles Keiller).  In a matchup between Stephen Harripersaud and Shayne Feinberg, I’m usually going to bet on the former.  However, I have a feeling that Andrew Know will give him a hard time.  I also think that the Fighting Flamingos D is easy to read pre snap and this plays to Feinberg’s strengths.

Prediction: Practice Squad 26- Fighting Flamingos 24
