Division 5B Championship Preview: Maccabees vs. Dirty Dogs Set for Showdown at Complexe CN

Brossard, May 18 – After a grueling regular season and an action-packed playoff run, the Division 5B championship game is set. The Maccabees and Dirty Dogs will meet Sunday May 18th at 3:45 p.m. at Complexe CN, with the title and bragging rights on the line.

Both teams have taken different paths to reach the final but come in with plenty of momentum. The Maccabees, the No. 2 seed, have been dominant all season, while the Dirty Dogs, seeded seventh, have ridden a late-season surge all the way to the title game.

Maccabees: Consistency and Firepower

The Maccabees wrapped up the regular season with an impressive 9-1 record, finishing just behind the undefeated Ducks. Their only blemish came in a tight 39-32 loss to the Gooners in Week 4. Other than that, the Maccabees have been a model of consistency, with strong performances on both sides of the ball.

Led by quarterback Shimmy Cons, the offense has been one of the most efficient in the division. Cons completed 130 of 212 pass attempts for 1,380 yards and 38 touchdowns, posting a 98.3 QB rating. His dual-threat ability also adds another layer to the offense—he racked up 241 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, keeping defenses guessing all season.

The receiving corps is deep and versatile. Mikey Titleman leads the team with 10 touchdowns on 23 catches, while Matthew Fixman (8 TDs) and Ryan Rotholz (6 TDs) provide additional red-zone weapons. Eric Lazarowitz and Max Kadanoff have also been key contributors, rounding out a unit that can strike from anywhere on the field.

Defensively, the Maccabees have been just as dangerous. Fixman and Kadanoff each have 8 interceptions, making them two of the most feared defenders in the division. Justin Sternklar has anchored the defense with 7 sacks, while Titleman’s all-around versatility has made him a constant threat in both coverage and as a rusher.

The Maccabees’ playoff journey included a 36-26 win over Hard Knocks, a 13-0 shutout of No Punt Intented, and a narrow 34-31 victory against Les Super Turbo Navets in the semifinals.

Dirty Dogs: Peaking at the Right Time

The Dirty Dogs entered the playoffs as the seventh seed, finishing the regular season with a 7-3 record. They started the year slowly, dropping two of their first three games, but turned things around with a 6-1 finish to close the regular season.

Quarterback Jacob Soles has been the centerpiece of their offensive resurgence. Soles threw for 1,450 yards and 42 touchdowns on 217 pass attempts, posting a 92.5 QB rating. While his aggressive style has led to 12 interceptions, it’s also powered one of the highest-scoring offenses in the division.

Matthew Cadogan has emerged as the top receiving threat with 12 touchdowns and 327 yards, while Noah Soles, the team’s volume leader, added 10 TDs and nearly 400 yards. Carter Soles and Carter Condon have also made big contributions, with Carter Soles averaging an eye-popping 18.1 yards per catch.

Defensively, the Dogs are led by Noah Soles, who has turned heads with a remarkable 17 interceptions in 10 games. Cadogan has chipped in with 5 interceptions and 16 tackles, while Ryan Campbell leads the team in tackles with 22. The pass rush is anchored by Massimo Rosati, who has a staggering 18 sacks—an X-factor that could disrupt Shimmy Cons and the Maccabees’ offensive rhythm.

The Dirty Dogs’ playoff run saw them outlast Bullshigh 18-12, handle Dragon Magique 25-13, and dominate Les Mangeux de Beignes 39-15 in the semifinals.

A Season Series Rematch

These two teams met once during the regular season, with the Maccabees edging out the Dirty Dogs 22-19 in Week 9. It was a hard-fought, defensive battle, and both sides will be eager to prove they’ve grown since that meeting.

For the Maccabees, the focus will be on keeping Jacob Soles contained in the pocket and avoiding the big plays that Dirty Dogs thrive on. On the other side, the Dirty Dogs’ defense, particularly their secondary and pass rush, will need to disrupt Cons’ rhythm and create turnovers.

Key Matchups to Watch

  • Shimmy Cons vs. Dirty Dogs’ Pass Rush: Cons’ mobility will be tested against Rosati’s relentless pressure.
  • Noah Soles vs. Maccabees’ Secondary: The Dogs’ top weapon will try to outmaneuver Fixman and Kadanoff, setting up a clash of elite playmakers.
  • Turnover Battle: With both teams boasting interception-heavy defenses, ball security will be crucial.

Prediction

Expect a close, hard-fought contest between two well-matched squads. The Maccabees’ depth and ability to strike in multiple ways give them a slight edge, but the Dirty Dogs have proven they can punch above their weight.

Projected Scorers:
