Division 1 & 2 Mid-Season Report Card

We are officially at the midway point of the season, and with it comes the midseason report card. I usually don’t give letter grades, but since I went back to school last year, and I am going through the final stretch, I figured why not.

Division 1

Flag Moi L’Sac (5-1) – (A+)

They are coming off a statement win over the Braves, and have solid victories over the Outlaws, Got-Skills, and Gryffindor as well. Their only hiccup came all the way back in Week 1 versus the Allstars. Besides the point that they were taking on arguably the greatest team in the history of Flag Plus Football, FMS, is also making their return to the league for the first since March of 2020.

Flag Moi L’Sac has proven they can go score for score with any team. Quarterback Alex Nadeau-Piuze leads all Div. 1 passers in touchdown passes, QB Rating, and completions, and they have the highest scoring offense as well, as they lead all Division 1 team in scoring with 259 points. Despite giving up the most points defensively, FMS, has come up with stops when they need it the most.

Allstars (3-1) – (A+)

Their only loss came to the Braves in Week 2. Since that defeat, The Allstars have won two games in a row, both by one point, over the Party Crashers and the braves in a rematch.

Led by the GOAT at Quarterback in Kevin Wyeth, the best Receiver in the game in Patrick Jérome, and a defense that leads all teams in points allowed with 123 and is excellent at getting stops in crunch time.

The Allstars have a chance to catch first place Flag Moi L’Sac, as the later plays two games each against last place teams in Got-Skills and Gryffindor over the next four weeks, before closing the regular season with their final meeting versus FMS, who they already beat (38-29) in Week 1.

Braves (3-2) – (A-)

They have more losses this season than they have had in recent memory. Is this a case of the Braves falling back to the pack, or the pack catching up to the Braves? They still have playmakers on both sides of the ball and have the smarts and ability to beat any team that stands across from them, but their defense has given up an eyebrow raising 88 points the last two weeks, including 57 in a thriller last Sunday against Flag Moi L’Sac, who won the game (58-57).

Tonight, the Braves take on another team with a strong offense in #NR, before getting their rematch versus Flag Moi L’Sac, next Sunday in Lachine. Currently on a two-game losing streak, the sky isn’t falling for the Braves, but their current slide has led to some questioning whether the Braves run of dominance is over.

Gryffindor (1-3) – (C+)

They are the only team in Division 1 to not have cracked the 100-point plateau yet. Their only win of the season is over Got-Skills (33-30) last Sunday night. The victory is huge as it relates to playoff positioning. The playoffs are the big picture. When you take a micro view, this team appears to finally be set at Quarterback with Hall of Famer Daniel Lazzara taking the lead. If that is the case, this team has plenty of weapons at Receiver with AJ Gomes, Sam Mashtoub, Domenico Manno, and Rashawn Perry (I haven’t seen you at the gym in a few weeks bro, what’s good?). The addition of a HOF passer is crucial, as they take on a tough schedule that includes a big game against Got-Skills tonight, and sees them play some juggernauts in the Braves, Flag Moi L’Sac, and two meetings with the Allstars.

Got-Skills (1-3) – (C)

After losing by 34 points to the Braves in Week 1, Got-Skills scored a blowout victory over The Apocalypse in Week 2, then lost consecutive heartbreakers against Flag Moi L’Sac and Gryffindor, by a combined 10 points.

Got-Skills has got talent. After their rematch against Gryffindor tonight, getting out the basement of the division will be tough, as Got-Skills faces arguably the toughest remaining schedule, as they take on the Allstars twice, along with games versus KGP, Flag Moi L’Sac, and the Braves to finish off the regular season. That is a tough hill to climb. Let’s see how they do.

 Division 2

Terror Squad (5-1) – (A+)

Their only loss of the season came in Week 4 against Flag Moi L’Sac. Besides the one negative, Terror Squad has delivered a lot of positives in the form of wins over #NR, BBallers, Outlaws, and impressive back-to-back wins last night over Party Crashers and Urgence Médic.

Upcoming contests against KGP and All Hooks, will be a test for Terror Squad. If they can escape those unscathed, it will set up T.S to finish the regular season with only one loss, as they close with games against The Apocalypse and Team Swoosh.

Urgence Médic (4-2) – (B+)

This is the special thing about sports, and particularly football, you can make changes to your roster and add elite players on your team, but despite all the previous success and accolades, the game is not played on paper, you still have to play the game.

Urgence Médic’s two losses on the season have come against two of the best teams in Terror Squad, and KGP. Two out of their three wins on the campaign were versus less impressive opponents, in Incredibles, and Team Swoosh. The other win was against #NR.

Similar to the Kansas City Chiefs, in that they are not a team you want to bet against, Urgence Médic, has three big games coming against quality opponents in All Hooks, Party Crashers, and the Braves, before they close out the regular season with a showdown with the Outlaws. How will UM fare?

Party Crashers (4-2) – (B-)

This team is explosive and can put up points with just about anybody. The one issue with the Party Crashers, is that their only signature win came against All Hooks (41-26) back in Week 2. Their other three victories have come against teams still searching for their first win.

The Party Crashers do have some signature defeats on their resume, as they have loss by a combined seven points to the Allstars and Terror Squad. Those close losses matter as well.

The question that needs to be answered, is whether the Party Crashers are a true contender, or just a squad who beats lesser teams? Upcoming contests against Urgence Médic and #NR, should give us the answer.

KGP (3-0-1) – (B-)

They are coming off a surprising (20-20) tie last Sunday against All Hooks. Besides the one blemish on their record, they are still the only team in Div. 2 to not suffer a loss. They have a standout (36-32) win over Urgence Médic in Week 2. Their other two victories have come against Team Swoosh and the Incredibles.

Despite having an offense led by Phil Cutler, and with playmakers at Receiver in Gabe D’Amico-Mazza, Julien Paiement, Dylan Garber, and Jonathan Garfinkle, it is the KGP defense that has been dominant so far this season, allowing a league-leading 70 points. The speed and aggression of this unit are the reasons why they have only given up more than three touchdowns in a game once this year.

The next three games on KGP’s schedule will put their defense to the test, as they take on #NR, Got-Skills, Terror Squad. Let’s see how they do.

All Hooks (3-1-1) – (C+)

Just like Transformers, is there more than meets the eye with All Hooks? Their wins have come against teams who have combined for one win. They suffered a 15-point loss to the Party Crashers in Week 2. Last week, they earned one point in the standings with a (20-20) tie against KGP.

Led by the fastest and most explosive QB in Div. 2 outside of Tam Vilaydeth, in Charles-Olivier Lavigne, this team has speed and depth at Receiver with Thomas Coutu, Felix-Antoine Lavigne, Oliver Suri, Jean-Christophe Ferland, and Jeremy White.

Apart from a game tomorrow night at Stade Hebert against Team Swoosh, the rest of the schedule for All Hooks is brutal, as they take on Urgence Médic, Terror Squad, Allstars, and #NR. Finishing with a .500 record in those final four games would be ideal. Going (1-4) might be enough to get them in the playoffs.

#NR (3-2) – (C)

They have beaten the teams they should have in The Apocalypse, Incredibles, and BBallers, but have lost to top teams in Terror Squad and Urgence Médic. The schedule does #NR no favors, as they take on the Braves tonight, followed by games against KGP and the Party Crashers. How #NR does in those contests will let us know whether they’re true contenders or not.

BBallers (2-3) – (C-)

You play who is on your schedule. That must be the mindset of the BBallers when it comes to their victories, as they have beat The Apocalypse and a Gryffindor squad who had not yet inserted Dan Lazzara as their QB. The team’s losses have come against Urgence Médic, Terror Squad, and #NR.

Three out of their next five games are against winless team, while their other two are against KGP and the Party Crashers. If the BBallers can go (4-1) down the stretch, it would go a long way to proving this team can hang with the top squads in Division 2.

Incredibles (1-4) (D)

Formerly one of the staples of FPF, the return of the Incredibles and Quarterback Greg Stern, has not exactly gone according to plan, as the offense has continuously struggled. In fairness to Stern, he pulled a MASE and took five years off.

Unlike the rapper, the return for the team and their QB, has started to improve with time. They got their first win of the year last week against Team Swoosh. The second half of the season sees them playing a favorable schedule, as they take on BBallers, The Apocalypse, and the Outlaws. Could we see the Incredibles string together some wins and make a playoff push?

Team Swoosh (0-4) (F)

Since the division alignment was set up, we have seen it every year. A team who is new to FPF, jumps into a division that they have no business playing in. Credit goes to this team for battling hard and trying to do the best they can to tread water. The best thing Team Swoosh can do right now, is learn from this experience, figure out the identity of their team, and either use this as a teaching opportunity for their Quarterbacks, or use the time to find one for next season.

Outlaws (0-4) (F)

This team has a lot of recognizable names, and some lower division championship experience. Unfortunately for the Outlaws, they don’t appear to have enough firepower or defense to hang with the heavyweights of Division 2. In all honesty, this squad has the looks of a dominant Div. 3 team who because of the wonky cap ratings system, and players playing on other teams, was forced to play in Division 2.

The next two weeks present the Outlaws with their best chance to get their first victory of the season, as they take on the equally winless The Apocalypse, and the 1-win Incredibles. Can they make something happen?

The Apocalypse (0-5) (F)

They were never really a legit threat to win the Division B championship, but I can’t be the only person that is surprised by the fact that The Apocalypse are winless on the season? They have a veteran Quarterback in Jeff Rosenblatt, and a plethora of playmakers on both sides of the ball in Anthony Brisebois, Patrick Jazon, Stephan Osman, Paul Lapierre, and Darnell Kevis Riley. This is by far the most talented winless squad remaining.

While they close out the regular season with games against Terror Squad and KGP, the next three games for The Apocalypse appear all winnable, as they take on the Outlaws tonight, followed by matchups against the Incredibles and Team Swoosh. Can they finally get their first victory?
