Cover Zero (Div C)

After another great week of football for most of us, it’s time to take a moment and look back on what happened.

Luckily for most of you, all you need to do is read.

My final segment of Get to know Your Opponents will feature the last 4 remaining teams in the last article of the regular season next week.

Some games had amazing finishes; some were over before half time. It’s the beauty of FPF; everything can happen in a blink of an eye. Don’t blink, you might miss it.

I keep trying of find a reason to make fun of my co-workers; Peeze’s team is simply down in the gutters, I’ve made enough fun of Eagle for decades, GM is actually battling back and we’ve seen it happen before so I’ll hold for now. My only problem is Blanchard and his clutch plays; if only he could stop so I can point out his flaws.

Week 9

A great ninth week is before us and I expect everyone to show up to play hard ball.

With many games on the dock, there is no time to lose. Most games have playoffs implications and everything could be decided by Sunday. I’m eager to see how the cards will unfold.

Players of the Week

Jordan Moses (Project Mayhem) : 138 yards and 3 TDs is worth the award any given week.

Broccasion Defense : Getting 6 picks off me is pretty big. Complete shutdown.

Shawn Steen (Eskimo Brothers) : Playing injured and still pulling off a hundred yards, 3 TDs and a pick-six. Beast.

Quick Recaps

Converted.

Oh, what a game. The Originals were completely shut down for the first half as Theo couldn’t seem to connect to his receivers and get any points on the board.

Game Changers had a decent lead, but couldn’t hold on as The Originals were knocking back for huge gains. Ojeaha showed he can strive with a huge running TD and got his team back in.

Game Changers managed to punch it in very late with a nice touchdown pass from Sakiz to tie it up 20-20. Going for one was the right move here. A bad read and a hasty pass later, Omar Jackson jumped the route for the pick. Something we don’t see often happened; he brought it back for one. Not only did it give The Originals the lead back, but it sealed the game with them winning by 1. Huge play.

Stay short.

In a battle of the long team names, the Dans took 6Fast by surprise. Maybe they weren’t expecting this sort of competition or they weren’t ready for the Dans, but everything seemed to be working for Joey Taylor’s offense.

The short passes were unstoppable and they kept driving the field on back to back drives. With 6Fast answering back every time, this game was getting a lot closer than we’ve anticipated.

On the final drive of the game, Taylor gets the ball in his hands and has to march that field for the last time. Knocking the short passes every time, we’d expect him to hit his receivers short once again, but he decided to hit deep for once. A call he’ll regret for a few days as Justin Blanchard was standing right there when he ball flew straight towards him. Blanchard being Blanchard, he sealed the game with a pick and 6Fast got the win.

Nonetheless, a very close game that showed that the Dans can ball with any given team.

Power Ranking

  1. Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan. Can’t knock them down when they keep winning.

  1. The Originals. A too close game is still a win.

  1. Knights. It’s really building up for that week 10’s matchup.

  1. BearSkins. A loss without your starting QB doesn’t mean THAT much.

  1. Centurions. They’ve been improving. Gaudet at QB might have been the answer.

Playoffs

With the upcoming playoffs at hand, I know where everyone’s attention is. That being said, I can’t cover a division without giving this some thoughts.

In bold, teams have clinched a playoff spot.

Asterix would be top seed clinched.

Italic means they are out of playoff contention.

Conference A

Predators (4-4-0): Technically at the top, two straight losses and some bad luck could send them home packing.

Broccasion (3-4-1) : They turned it up, huge. All they need is a win this week and they are in.

Eskimo Brothers (3-4-1) : A huge win over Predators bought them breathing room, but they aren’t out of it yet. A win vs Broccasion will get them in.

Dragons (2-6-0) : Realistically out of the contention, but mathematically still in.

Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans (7-1-0) : Clinched and favorite for the bye, it’ll come down to that week 10 game against Bearskins.

BearSkins (5-3-0) : At 10 points, they are fighting for that top seed spot. I have a feeling it’ll come down to their week 10 game after 6Fast.

Centurions (5-2-1) : With last week’s win, they’ve clinched a playoff spot. Let’s see if they can improve their seeding.

Two and a half Dans (3-5-0) : A tough loss last week has them down in a bad spot. They really need a win to recover and they need it this week.

Conference B

Project Mayhem (4-3-1) : They needed a win, but got a tie. It’s better than a loss, I guess. Still the frontrunner. It’ll come down to this week’s matchup.

ZOO (4-4-0) : After last week’s loss, ZOO is clinched, but twirling away from that first seed spot. They’ll have to pull the upset this week if they want that bye !

Moose (3-5-0) : The first win is in. Moose is back on track. All they need is another win to knock Old Farts out of contention. And guess who they’re facing ?

Old Farts (1-5-2) : They needed a win, but they got a tie. It’s better than a loss, but this is a tough spot for Old Farts. With everything on the line against Moose, let’s see how fiery these farts can get.

The Originals (7-1-0) : Clinched playoff spot. Still fighting for top seed and a bye week.

Knights (6-2-0) : Clinched, but still in the run for the top seed and that bye week.

Game Changers (4-4-0) : A tough loss has them clinched, but it’s not something they can allow themselves to get used to.

Lockdown (0-8-0): Sorry, they weren’t officially out last week. Now they are.

Predictions

Going 4/7 will keep my head out of the water. 30/50 isn’t bad after 8 weeks.

Two and a half Dans vs BearSkins : In a battle to stay alive, The Dans are really looking to get that 4th and much needed win. BearSkins are without their quarterback for another week and this might just be the extra incentive the Dans needed to get back on track. The entire matchup will come down on whoever’s throwing the ball for BearSkins. Papich has a decent arm, but losing him as a receiver isn’t worth it. It’s time to brainstorm.

Prediction : BearSkins

ZOO vs Project Mayhem: In a battle for the top seed, both teams are coming off “bad” games and are looking to get revenge. Holowach’s higher division experience will prevail over Frank Kaye’s methodological offense, but it’ll really come down to which defense gets the much needed stop. I don’t expect this game to go above 30 points on either side, it’ll be a close one.

Prediction : ZOO

Dragons vs Predators : Last season, this matchup made a pretty decent GOTW. We’ll see if they can do it again, but this time, off the film. Dragons have been playing poorly, mostly me, but still. Predators haven’t been themselves and Floreani isn’t the same when he can’t move around the pocket. If he can adjust and start putting more weight on his ankle, Predators should be going home with the win. If he can’t rely so much on his legs, the smaller size of his receivers might be his downfall once again.

Prediction : N/A

Centurions vs Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans : This is bound to be one of the best games of the week. A win for 6Fast means they’ll clinch the top seed and the bye week; a loss could get them bad seeding, although they’ve already clinched. Centurions’ defense is gritty and 6Fast will have to play harder ball than usual. I have faith in 6Fast’s defense to get the needed stop; it’ll really come down on Viens’ shoulders once again.

Prediction : Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans

Game Changers vs Knights : As mentioned in the podcast, Game Changers are facing something they aren’t used to. Last week, Sakiz showed he wasn’t able to put up 30+ points against The Originals’ defense, although their defense can really ball (I’ve been saying it all season). This week, the same scenario will present itself, but they’ll know better. I expect this game to rake up 4 scores on both sides of the ball, but Knights will head home with the win.

Prediction : Knights

Eskimo Brothers vs Broccasion : Realistically, both these teams are in the playoffs, but why leave it to chance? The winner of this contest will have his ticket to the playoffs; the loser might be going home after their week 10’s game. It’s that simple. They’ve both played tremendous football last week, but I think Broccasion is simply higher up there. Cerantola doesn’t even need to run that much to be making those clutch throws anymore and his DBs are simply ball-hawkers. This might end up in a nightmare matchup for the Brothers.

Prediction : Broccasion

Old Farts vs Moose : The battle of the bottom-dwellers. Realistically, Moose are in, but a loss this week to Old Farts could potentially upset their chances. We’ve seen crazier things in FPF (Love Cows). That being said, I actually believe this is bound to be a great game, Old Farts are underrated and they’ve shown some serious teeth recently. This could actually go either way, but I’m secretly cheering for Old Farts.

Prediction : Moose

Lockdown vs The Originals : Lockdown is known to show up when their opponents are bigger and better. This could be a serious blowout or this could be pretty tight. Either way, I simply don’t see The Originals losing this one. They’ll be giving Lockdown’s 9th defeat this week.

Prediction : The Originals

That’s it for this week. Expect to hear from me again in the following days or see me on the field watching those great plays or epic failures. Get in touch with me, it makes for better coverage and a better season overall. I’ll be at the fields, my email, [email protected] works and I’ll be watching twitter, @DagenaisFPF, closely this season. Leave it all on the field. Don’t forget to tune in to the Unclehood’s show. Peeze is pretty quiet when he’s team is down in the gutters; I like it.
