Cover Zero (Div C)

Welcome Back.

Week 7 is off to a pretty strong start. You guys know I’m a sucker for upsets and this division is like a dream come true. Of course, some guys had to come knocking in and ruining the whole party for everyone going undefeated since their first game *cough* Theo *cough*, but hey, at least they aren’t actually undefeated.

I know this article is overdue and I apologize. For those of you who know me, I’m used to being on time and methodological; I guess this week I wasn’t myself.

Considering this is written on Friday, some of the games have been played; it shall be taken into consideration below.

My Get to know your Opponents segment will be back next week running into week 8 and 9 to get a touch of every team before this beautiful season concludes. Stay tuned; it’ll be a good one.

Week 7

All around, it was a pretty decent week. Any week with upsets is a good week for me, although I keep losing, but I’m an objective guy, I guess.

This division is finally falling into place and I feel like I can, sort of, grasp what’s happening. Better than Justin at least. This kid, like, is like, you know, like, yeah.

Players of the Week

Anthony Garant (Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans) : This guy’s a beast all around. Strong presence on defense and simply wrecking havoc on offense. 4 TD is ridiculous and it wasn’t even his regular QB.

Justin Filteau (Game Changers) : Dominant rusher who got the game winning TD. Clutch.

Aleksander Papich (BearSkins) : A nice interception and 4 TDs on offense gives him the honors this week. Kid’s unstoppable, like literally.

Theo Ojeaha (The Originals): I expected this to be game of the week. Theo brought down the hammer. 7:0 and even picked Holowach on defense. Enough said.

Danny McFee (Two and a half Dans) : The GOTW shows it; he was a dominant rusher.

Quick Recaps

He changed the game.

Ever heard of Justin Filteau ? Many of us, Moose included, haven’t. After that performance, he won’t be forgotten. He gave Morissette serious headaches for a whole 44 minutes and decided to seal the deal with a late game clutch TD. Many mentioned Sakiz, but Filteau is on another level right now.

On the plus side, Game Changers showed tenacious defense and managed to play up to their opponents. They’ve been adjusting to Div C and it is showing. Their offense hasn’t been as prolific as it used to, understandably. I haven’t given up on them just yet.

Moose had another bad outing and it’s hard to see through all the smoke this team is clawing out of. On paper, they are brilliant and destructive, but they can’t seem to get their players on point and at the games. I can’t help, but point fingers and blame poor management here.

Skinned

BearSkins dominated their opponents for another outing as they move to 4-2 (now 5-2, I know).

After getting a bad snap for a safety, I finally managed to touch the ball down 15-0. Morale was low and BearSkins kept punching it in. Dragons started showing some in the second half but when you’re down by more than 20 points, it’s a pretty hard hole to climb out of. Kudos to Etinson for playing brilliantly for the entire 44 minutes and showing he’s deserving.

BearSkins are really starting to look like the team we’ve expected them to be with ridiculous secondary and very strong receivers. You simply don’t know who to cover anymore; all these guys can finish with 4-5 TDs and make you regret leaving them alone for a single play.

This game was over before it started and BearSkins improved as Dragons fall from grace into a hole they might not be able to claw out of in time.

The Game of the Week.

Filmed brilliantly by Ryan Aridi, the GOTW is now available and it’s always a pleasure to watch. Predators showed they are contenders even with a different roster as they took down the Dans 32-12. I don’t need to recap this game in much detail; you can all go watch it.

I do want to point out Floreani’s efficiency when he’s down on third and long against a pretty quick rusher; he couldn’t seem to buy a break. McFee really came out to play ball and he gave Floreani a run for his money.

Power Ranking

Still hard to put together, this Power Ranking is troubling me.

  1. Six Fast Guys Plus Ryan.Another week, another win. Can’t take the title away.

  1. The Originals. Blowing the second seed out of the water has them at the top.

  1. Predators. Floreani can ball without his usual receivers and showed they can win on GOTW in back to back seasons.

  1. BearSkins. This team is really starting to look like the one I’ve expected them to.

  1. ZOO. Back to back impressive wins will get you places.

Predictions

A 5/7 is a pretty decent outing. Slowly climbing back, I’m 23/40 breaching the 50% and more.

Knights vs Project Mayhem : After taking a serious beating from The Originals, Mayhem is looking to make a statement this week against Knights. Sadly, Knights is bolstering a defense similar to The Originals and Holowach won’t have an easier time here. I do not expect either of these teams to hit the 40 points. That being said, it might just end up being a one score game where one’s defense will prevail. I expect Knights’ size to be a key both on offense and defense here against the fairly smaller Mayhem.

Prediction : Knights

Centurions vs Dragons : With Centurions changing some players around, I’m not too sure what to expect this week. Nonetheless, this game’s pretty important for both these teams. Considering their current records, neither of these teams can afford another loss if they want to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Dragons will face a fierce and aggressive defense and I’ll have to start playing like last season if I want to walk away with my head on my shoulders. This might just be do or die.

Prediction : N/A

Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans vs Predators : In this week’s obvious Game of the week, we’re bound to have an exciting game. Two of the top 3 teams at the moment are facing off against each other. Predators have a bit more to lose as they’ve taken two losses already where 6Fast only has one under their belt. At this point of the season, two losses still has you the top seed, but a third loss might sting a bit. Floreani will face off against strong containing rushers and his receivers might have a hard time outrunning their opponents. I expect both QBs to be on their best performances because a mistake here might be fatale for either of them.

Prediction : Six Fast Guys Plus Ryans

Lockdown vs Old Farts : In the battle of the dwelling cellar, I’m not even sure where to begin. Lockdown has been showing some improvements offensively lately, but their defense keeps struggling to make a stop. Old Farts have experience and I wouldn’t count them out until the very last play. That being said, I don’t expect this to be a boring game regardless of the teams’ records. It’ll come down to the final drive where Old Farts will have the ball and the opportunity to win; and they will. Another heartbreaker.

Prediction : Old Farts

That’s it for this week. Expect to hear from me again in the following days or see me on the field watching those great plays or epic failures. Get in touch with me, it makes for better coverage and a better season overall. I’ll be at the fields, my email, [email protected] works and I’ll be watching twitter, @DagenaisFPF, closely this season. Leave it all on the field. Don’t forget to tune in to the Unclehood’s show. Eagle was missing; Lockdown played fantastic. This might be the beginning of something bigger than him.
