Competitive Power Rankings Part 1

1. Braves (3-0-0)
The Braves being ranked #1 so far shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point. They’ve come out looking sharper after winning the winter competitive division championship. What really stands out this season is how balanced the offence is. There’s no one guy that has to do it all. Every receiver is involved and every route has a purpose. Jonathan Maheu is playing like a man on a mission, hitting his reads with confidence, and putting the ball exactly where it needs to be. Through three games, Maheu has 21 touchdowns and is rocking a 151.5 QB rating. And then there’s the game 3 performance against #NR, which felt way more personal than just another regular season game.
This was definitely a game Maheu had marked on the calendar. And if you know the story behind it, it makes sense. Earlier this month, Myles Gibbon the opposing QB was controversially selected over Maheu for the Team Canada roster. That decision clearly didn’t sit right with him. You could tell from the opening drive that this one meant something extra. I wouldn’t be surprised if Maheu let his guys know ahead of time and the entire team responded with energy and execution.
The result? A 56–18 dismantling. Maheu went 16 for 17, threw for 365 yards and 8 touchdowns, with just a single incompletion. That’s not just a statement but rather a reminder. A reminder of exactly who he is and what this Braves offense is capable of.
And the receiving group? It’s not even fair. James Drysdale, Emile Chateauvert, Mike Pierrecin, and Gabriel-Charles Dabe Champagne each caught 2 touchdowns in the game. That’s four different receivers finding the end zone multiple times. Good luck trying to game plan for that.
Defensively, guys like Phil Pharand and Isiah Allard are quietly always doing serious work. Pharand’s pass breakups have been insane recently and Isiah is right there with him while also pretty much taking away a good portion of the middle field.
Top to bottom, the Braves have the most well rounded roster in the division. They’ve got chemistry, experience, talent, and most importantly friendship. But more than anything, they’re playing with purpose. Congrats to James Drysdale, Guillaume Beland, Phil Pharand, and Jean-Daniel Chevalier (reserve) on their Team Canada selection.

2. Flag Moi L’Sac (3-0-0)
Flag Moi L’Sac sits at #2, and honestly, that feels about right. Right now, they’re probably the second best active men’s franchise in the league behind the Braves and that’s not a knock, that’s reality. This is a powerhouse team with championship pedigree, but there’s still that lingering question: can they get over the Braves hump? Last season, they fell short in both the Comp and Division 1 championship games, both times at the hands of the Braves. It begs the question is this team chasing more titles or just chasing second place?
One big piece missing so far? Guillaume Paquet. He hasn’t suited up yet this season, and his absence is massive. When active, he’s one of the best receivers in the league, and someone who changes how defences have to game plan. If Flag Moi wants to get back to the big stage and take down their rival, he needs to get on the field. No way around it.
That said, this team still has a lot going right. Alex Nadeau-Piuze is doing what he always does playing calm, smart, efficient football. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns with zero interceptions, spreading the ball to a loaded receiving group with Quaid Johnson, Samuel Nadeau-Piuze, JP St-Pierre, and Vincy Biandé all contributing.
But the real story so far is their defence. Through 3 games, they’ve already forced 6 interceptions and 5 sacks as a team. For a squad that already has one of the most explosive offenses, adding that level of defensive playmaking just makes them that much more dangerous. And congrats to Francois Rocheleau for being selected to Team Canada.

3. MTL MAGIC (3-0-0)
MTL MAGIC lands at #3 and it feels like the right spot for them at this point in the season. For those who may not know this is essentially the Kangaroos or Roos’ franchise rebranded, and while the name may have changed, the DNA remains the same: explosive offense, high-energy play, and a ceiling as high as any team in the division. Personally, I like the new name it suits their style but I think they should pick a team name and stick with it. Consistency starts with routine, and that could go a long way for a squad like this.
They’re one of the younger teams in the Competitive division, but that doesn’t mean they’re short on talent. Jackson Cooper and Xavier Couture both are rising stars who’ve added speed and versatility to this group. And of course, you can’t talk about MTL MAGIC without bringing up Lazzara to Boutet probably the most consistent connection in the division right now. Daniel Lazzara is having another MVP caliber season, throwing for 943 yards and 21 TDs while completing nearly 86% of his passes. That’s wild. And Felix Boutet well he’s already at 299 yards and 10 touchdowns in just three games that is absurd production.
What’s been most surprising in the best way is their defence. They’ve forced 7 interceptions as a team already which leads the division. Guys like Boutet, AJ Gomes, Raffaele Morelli, and Jeanslee Alexis are flying around and making plays. For a squad known primarily for their offense, the defense stepping up like this makes them feel more complete than in previous seasons.
Right now, they hold down the 3rd spot but if they want to move up and make a real push for that top tier, they’ll have to earn it head to head. Good news is they’ll get that chance in their next game. Flag Moi L’Sac on June 22. That matchup is must watch, not just because both teams are undefeated, but because they’re so similar. Explosive, high-powered offenses, surrounded by underrated defensive units that are starting to steal headlines. Both teams have fallen short to the Braves in recent history, but this one will give us a true sense of how they measure up against each other. It’s not just about seeding, it’s also about setting the tone for what the rest of the season could look like. Congrats to Jeanslee Alexis and AJ Gomes (reserve) for being selected to Team Canada.

4. Raw Dawgs (4-1-0)
Sitting at #4 are the Raw Dawgs, a rebranded version of the well known The Jamesons franchise. If you’ve followed the Competitive division, The Jamesons name carries weight as they were always competitive, always in the mix, and now under this new identity, not much has changed. They’re still putting up points, and grinding out wins, even if their games haven’t always been as polished as the teams ranked above them.
One thing they do have on their side is experience. They opened the season with a win over EZW, followed it up with tight victories over KGP and #NR (including a 41–36 shootout) and their only loss came to Flag Moi L’Sac which is respectable.
Defensively this squad is doing a lot of things right. They’ve racked up 26 pass deflections as a team more than anyone in the division (not a fact but I strongly assume) and they’re constantly disrupting timing and throwing windows. That number is even more impressive considering they lost Sanders Armand, aka the Pass Deflection King who left to join #NR this season. Guys like Anthony Brisebois, Tysen Otis Copeland, and Jordan Panetta have picked up the slack.
That said, if there’s one area for growth it’s turning those deflections into interceptions. With all the pressure they’re applying and the amount of balls they’re getting hands on, they should be generating more turnovers and they’re going to need those game changing plays if they want to compete against the top 3 teams currently above them.
At the end of the day, the Raw Dawgs are built to grind. They may not be the flashiest team in the division but they’re experienced and know how to win close games sometimes.
Rankings 5 through 9 – Coming Soon…
We’ve broken down the top 4 teams but the middle through bottom tier teams are TBD for now. KGP is quietly building momentum and could make things interesting, while squads like EZW, PartyCrashers, and #NR are still searching for their first win. As for Sooners45 — they’re hanging on for dear life.
Stay tuned for the full breakdown of teams ranked 5 through 9.
