Coed 2 Mid-Season Report Cards

We are halfway through the season and a lot has happened, lots of wins, some upsets, surprises, etc. All teams have played half of their games (or almost depending on when you had your bye weeks). We’ll dive into the mid season report cards for Coed 2, we’ll be going through all 20 teams in this division and see how they’re doing.

This article is inspired from Ignacio Valdes Manzanedo as I like the way he broke things down with the offensive, defensive and overall grading. The next part was written by him also which is well explained for you to understand where your grades are coming from. Enjoy !

Offensive/Defensive Grading Scheme

A: Outstanding offensive/defensive performance. You are the best at your craft and have proven it so far in 5 games. Offensively, you move the ball with ease and if you get stopped once or twice a game, I’m shocked. Defensively, I’m seeing 3-4 stops a game, and you’re averaging 1-2 interceptions a game. You are elite.

B: You are a good offense/defense. Offensively, you can drive the field for the most part, with a few hiccups each game. Because defense is hard, you are getting 1-2 stops a game and that is good in Coed 1 where offenses know what they are doing.

C: You are an average/below average offense/defense. Your putting up 20-25 points per game and on defense, you barely get a stop in a given game. Your picks are lucky bounces off receivers hands.

D: You are really struggling on offense/defense. Your concepts don’t work at this level and you need to either revamp the plays or drop down a division.

Overall Grading Scheme

Whereas the Offense/Defense grades are basically saying whether you are good or bad, the Overall Grade is compared to expectations placed on your team relative to the beginning of the season. A “C” grade doesn’t mean you are a bad team, just that

A: Your team has greatly exceeded expectations. You are more likely to get this grade if you are a 3-2 team when you were expected to go 0-5 or 1-4, than a 5-0 team expected to go 5-0.

B: You have a good team, but you’ve slightly surpassed expectations. You either jumped a division and are sitting at 2-3 or so and staying competitive in games.

C: You are meeting expectations. I expected you to be exactly where you are at.

D: Severely under performing! You may have signed up in the wrong division

*Grading scheme from Iggy, ask his permission if you are looking to use it, thank you!

Quick parenthesis: Just to mention, the MVP were chosen from their offensive AND defensive performance, if the player chosen plays only one way then it was chosen from how their stats stand out from the rest, thank you. Also please read what your grade means! I’ve had a couple of people that tell me they don’t understand why they got a C for an overall…C means you’re doing good and you are where I expected you to be, thank you again.

Coed 2

Kiss My Christmas Balls (6-0)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: A

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jerome Hovington

Not surprised with where this team is at right now. Alexi did a great job at building a solid team on both side of the ball, especially bringing back Ignacio Valdes Manzanedo, and Erica Dubois and Abigail Cockerton which are great female athletes. I have nothing bad to say about them, Brady is doing great at throwing the ball at his receivers, his receivers make plays. Also defense wise, they are getting the interceptions they need to give the ball back to their team.

Flash (5-1)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: B+

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jeremy Murphy

Another team that I have nothing bad to say, they are getting the job done. It’s nice to see a female quarterback doing well in a coed division. One thing I could mention is, their star player is Jeremy Murphy, getting around 1 interception and many yards per game and I can see that Juliette is highly relying on him from the stats shown. Therefore, my question is: If he were to miss a game during the season, would their strategy, gameplay be completely different? If he wasn’t there for a game, would they still get the win? We have yet to see it happen.

Mc Nuggies (5-2)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Alexandre Roel

The ball is well-distributed, and most of their players are getting targets and touchdowns. They have a good roster, bringing a variety of players and most importantly good female players which are crucial in coed now. Defensively, they brought Shelder Valery to which he keeps proving why he is good, getting 2 pick 6’s out of the 4 interceptions, with a couple sacks and tackles here and there. Their defense is stopping their opponents whether it’s from an interception or patdowns.

Balls Deep (4-2)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: B-

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Benjamin Carli

Another team that is doing well, Benjamin is getting the touchdowns and rarely getting sacked or intercepted. He is mostly targeting his male players, however his female players are giving him a reason to throw to them as they can catch and gain yards as much as the male players can.

Y&Y (4-1-1)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Maya Di Fazio

A team that always have many subs, players that comes and goes, and just a couple that are always present. Might be a tactic from the creator of this team, to always change up the roster and have different players be eligible for the playoffs at the end? Who knows! Their quarterback is different this season, he seems to be adjusting well to this team, getting important plays and touchdowns. Defensively, Maya is still getting tons of tackles each game, to which she currently has 35 tackles in 6 games.

Team Rocket (3-2)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: B+

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Nassim Ouadhi

A very mobile quarterback, he can make you miss his flags with his cuts and hip movements (I’ve been a witness unfortunately:) ), he also has solid players such as Nassim Ouadhi and Mathilde Renaud. They are very athletic and are able to find the windows where the defense isn’t there.

Lords of the Field (4-2)

Offensive grade: A-

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Felix Gerin-Lajoie

Solid offense, with the sneakiness of Alex Laroche and the speed from Alexandra Falcon-Korb and other female players. Although Felix likes to run a lot, he does have a variety of people to throw to and make plays if he wanted to. Defensively, he is there to intercept the ball and stop the other teams offense.

Pig 6 (3-1)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Thomas Chaussé

This was a team I was expecting to win pretty much everything, they are still only 4 games in but having lost to Mc Nuggies may show that they might have a couple other losses this season. Losses don’t mean anything however so I will be expecting mostly wins from them and will get far in the playoff rounds. They are doing good on both sides of the ball, with the major help of Thomas Chaussé.

Fitsquad (2-1)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: B

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jarod Pita

They revamped their team, a little, with new talents but also loosing key players. They are doing better than I expected, they are familiar with the game play and seem to be adjusting really well as a team. I’m not sure if they all played together prior to this season but they are exceeding expectations. William Brouard is doing really well at giving the ball out to everyone equally (approximately) and they have players that make a lot of tackles and are covering their zone beautifully.

Kanikule (2-2)

Offensive grade: A

Defensive grade: A-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Vincy Biandé

A team composed of females athletes from St-Laurent and also brought out excellent male players with them. Athena Ryan knows her receivers as she’s played with them beforehand, therefore gives an advantage of knowing where they will end up and can count on them to catch those balls. They also do have a height advantage on this team which is always a plus to have when throwing the ball deep!

Kamikaze (3-3)

Offensive grade: B-

Defensive grade: C+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Eric Letourneau

Seem to be doing average, they are winning against teams that are currently sitting at the bottom half and losing against the ones that are more in the upper half, that’s why they are currently sitting in the middle of this division. We can see that the QB has some preferences to who when throwing the ball, he might be more used to playing with them than the others. On defense, they are doing good also, everyone is getting tackles and are where they need to be.

Who’s Gonna Carry The Boats (2-3)

Offensive grade: C+

Defensive grade: C

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Sanders Armand

A returning team with a few hiccups along the road. Alex is a very speedy player and isn’t scared to run it whenever he can. He does have amazing receivers with height and speed that he can use. Unlike other teams, Alex is in fact using his female players a lot. They are getting many targets and yards which shows that he has confidence in them and isn’t afraid to use them at his advantage. However, i’m not sure what is happening this season, maybe the new teams are putting pressure on them and not allowing them to score as much. You guys are underperforming compared to last season but you are not in the wrong division, maybe just a clarification on what everyone has to do on offense and defense should be quickly revised because I know this team is usually able to win those games.

Pass Whoopin’ (3-2)

Offensive grade:

Defensive grade:

Overall grade:

Mid-Season Team MVP: Emerson Peterkin

I don’t know how to talk about my team but here we go… Chris Rivest brought his team from another league, making a couple adjustments. They have been playing together for more than a year approximately, therefore he knows his receivers, he knows what they can run or not and what to call offensively. Having Joey Notaro and Emerson Peterkin on this team is a game changer, but they also have a secret weapon, Sarah-Maude Mathieu, who is small in height but has speed. Therefore putting her as a rusher is crucial because she has been getting sacks and putting pressure on QB’s.

Power Puff Girls (2-3)

Offensive grade: C

Defensive grade: C-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: William Chamberland

They seem to have more than 1 quarterback, maybe since they have a big roster they like to give reps to everyone? Either way, they are a normal team, everyone is getting tackles, yardage, touchdowns. They even won against TIGRES which is always a little competitive as they play very different and makes the defense have to adjust very fast and need to stop the runs.

Team Meow Meow (1-4)

Offensive grade: C+

Defensive grade: C

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Maxime Giroux

I was expecting more Maxime! No but in all seriousness, bringing a cegep team in a flag league for the first time, we always have to expect ups and downs. They are getting used to a new field, new rules, unlike the full field 7v7 they usually play on. For them it’s like a practice season, giving their QB Sarah-Maude Hamel reps to practice her throws and for her to read the defense.

TIGRES (1-4)

Offensive grade: C+

Defensive grade: C

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Néstor Nacip Chávez Fayad

I am personally very surprised by their season up to now, they were doing good in the previous seasons however I believe with new teams in the division now, the game is very different. Nestor solemnly relies on his runs, he will always runs once every 2 plays. His calling style is very different and unique also, I believe they don’t really call plays, his playbook basically involves a very fast huddle and a “get open” on the field. Although, he does call a play to a specific person once everyone is settled on the line of scrimmage (correct me if I am wrong). With 1-5 losses, maybe a change of offense would be an idea. Quarterbacks can’t always rely on their running because teams will pick up on that very fast and try to cut their runs so it minimizes the runs, or it will only let you gain a couple yards here and there.

Balles Profondes (1-5)

Offensive grade: C-

Defensive grade: C+

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Francois Rocheleau

A returning team however with Sebastien Noel as their quarterback this season. With only 59/123 completions, I am not sure if it’s the reads that aren’t the best or if receivers are having a hard time catching the balls thrown in their direction. However, defensively, they are getting the tackles and interceptions once in a while.

The IG Team 2 (0-4-1)

Offensive grade: C

Defensive grade: C+

Overall grade: D

Mid-Season Team MVP: Jordanson Alexis

A second IG Team that decided to make it’s way into the coed 2 division, however, with a different quarterback. This team is composed of similar players as the coed 1 IG Team but they are not getting as many wins as them unfortunately. It is strange as most of their players have already played together and must be used to each other yet it doesn’t seem to be working this season. They have the players to have many wins but maybe a different quarterback is to be considered or for their current quarterback to continue practicing and get better with time. Starting off a qb position is never easy as it comes with a lot of pressure and practice but everyone is capable of doing it after some time.

Ballhard University (0-4)

Offensive grade: C-

Defensive grade: C-

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Rhami Aboud

New team, new players, some of them are getting started in flag football world maybe and some are returning players also. It was a safe choice to get into coed 2, the middle division as it might be a higher competition then coed 3. When you start with a new team, it’s always gonna be a period of adjustment, you’re not used to playing with certain people, you don’t know exactly how they run their routes or on defense how they do.

You and I (0-5)

Offensive grade: C+

Defensive grade: C

Overall grade: C

Mid-Season Team MVP: Anne-Sophie Duchesne

With 2 different quarterbacks, their style of playing might be different from eachother therefore will affect those receivers who aren’t used to play together. They are getting the yards and touchdowns but it might not be enough to clutch in those wins.
